Storey...re your flagship comment...ohhh to have such problems. Hopefully, Appledore would be suitable anyway. If they did win it, huge accolade and would make many detractors eat their words. Time will tell
Thanks Stokey I didn’t know it was Langham industries that sold Appledore feel a lot happier it wasn’t Bab****

I did wonder, tbh, Stokey. But I was going by what was said elsewhere, some time ago now and that they were the previous owners of the yard. I stand corrected, if not as I thought. Thanks.

Si_Derman ref 09.44 post I would advise you to check who the sellers were for Appledore as it may not be who you think.
Lottie123 ref 09.38 post What might throw a spanner in the works is if within the next two months INFA wins the tender to build the new flagship which I believe they are still in the running for.
Could it be that our main competitor for this contract is keeping the sell pressure on with the shares they have been given as part payment of Appledore. One way to take out the competition.
In all reality, the FFS contract can only go to one of the two applicants given the lack of shipbuilding capability, by the others, in the UK. With that in mind, it would appear reasonable for an element of cautious optimism to be displayed in the valuations of the companies in pole position. Given INFA is a minnow (in share capital terms) with every chance of a major share financially should they win, the impact on EPS would be staggering with far more importance on its ability to survive and thrive. So i ask myself why the share price continues un-impressed languishing near all time low. Nearly all the trades showing as sales the last week were indeed purchase, I should know, I was involved. The MMs must still have a client willing to continue the downward pressure. This, in my experience, smacks of a party wanting the shares to weaken, this is not the act of a seller trying to get as much as he can for his holding. The current prices has zero premium for any of the avenues the company is currently exploring. Happy to keep fully invested. Will grudgingly accept if the company falls into administration because we all know the risks.
oldtramp ref 18.31 post These ships were redesignated as warships last year I believe that is how the stipulation about ships having to be integrated in the UK. This might come as a problem as Serco does not have any shipyards to complete the shipyards. I am not sure if there any shipyards left that are not part of either Team UK or Team Resolute with the capacity to do all the work that would be needed.
Also worth noting Sir John Parker is also on Carnival board along with Sir Jonathon Band
https://www.carnivalcorp.com/media-center/board-of-directors
Interesting you use the term warship Stokey
"The National Shipbuilding Strategy (NSS) released in September 2017 stipulated that the design and construction of these ships would be subject to an international competition pitting UK firms against those overseas in order to encourage competitiveness.[1] Classified as "non-warships", the vessels were required to be tendered internationally as per Article 346 of the Treaty on the Functioning of the European Union (TFEU).[7][1][8] This received opposition from political parties, including Labour and the Scottish National Party, as well as trade unions, such as GMB and the Confederation of Shipbuilding and Engineering Unions, who criticized the potential loss of work for British shipyards. They recommended that the ships be reclassified as "warships" and therefore exempt from the treaty, allowing them to be built in British shipyards.[6] Sir John Parker, whose recommendations formed the basis for the National Shipbuilding Strategy, also criticized the government's approach as "not the right strategic approach" and recommended that "UK-only competition should be considered for future defence-funded vessels"
Also Damen do not have a yard in UK however they do have off the shelf hulls available my guess is they have been included to keep cost quotations down ?
Serco have teamed up with Damen to bid for the FSS this is the link to their website https://www.damen.com/ I am not sure if they have built a warship before though.
If driving, take the Bangor rd from Belfast and you will drive past Samson & Goliath, Impressive, enjoy Belfast also Titanic centre well worth a visit and afternoon tea in the 1st class dining room. Roly.
roly12 ref 16.19 post No I live in England although I am in Belfast next week.
Sir Jonathon Band appointed to Board
Many thanks stokey12, I have always read your input here, keep up the great research, are you by any chance based in N.I. ?
I am south but used to keep a yacht in Bangor, so know the area well and have asked local opinion about Island Magee.
roly12 ref 15.41 post The next three steps in the process are:
8. Release of Draft Manufacture Contract: October 2021
9. Manufacture Bid Submission (in respect of CPP Stage 1) Deadline: November 2021
10. Manufacture Bid Submission (in respect of CPP Stage 2) Deadline: July 2022
Todays news can only be positive however I have no idea how long the process will take, does anyone here have an idea ? having sold here after the fund raise back last May, have bought back in today but my buy was shown as a sell, I intend to hold now for the long term, bust or boom ! Roly. GLA
oldtramp ref 15.12 post I just checked LinkedIn and there was nothing from H&W or JW when I checked. That said I do not think it follows that there would be an RNS.
I do not see how it would be politically possible for any government to leave NI with no part in this national project
Stokey if nothing appears on LinkedIn regarding FSS do you agree we could be in for an RNS ?
The view from twitter https://twitter.com/geoallison/status/1433019320817303563 detailed analysis from UK Defence Journal.
"The award of the Competitive Procurement Phase (CPP) design contracts, each initially worth around £5 million, means the Fleet Solid Support competition has successfully moved to the next stage."
"The contracts will enable bidders to develop their design proposals and the next stage will seek details of how they would fulfil the wider delivery needs of the programme. "
From the above i would like to think some of the money would be spent on upgrades to Belfast and Appledore ?
Ref my 14.04 post If you look at this from the Leidos website https://www.leidos.com/company/global/uk-europe/defence. It is not clear how Leidos can meet the requirement to build substantial parts of the FSS in the UK. They would need to basically sub contract virtually all of the shipbuilding work. The same goes for Serco.
oldtramp ref 14.00 post the official press release from the MOD can be found here https://www.gov.uk/government/news/uk-enters-next-stage-of-fleet-solid-support-competition. Looking at the bidders I think that it is still a two horse race between Team UK and Team Resolute.
and from the official government .gov website :-
