Being realistic I think defence contracts are in the medium term. The wind farm projects look closer and the two ships we are expected to hear more about before H1 concludes.A conclusion on the Gas caverns is important more than ever in my opinion.
And that in itself speaks volumes Stokey. I have no doubt if an NI wished to forward a question they would have been rostered
Jabido In relation to your 13.30 post that is probably because there are no DUP MPs on the order paper to ask a question.
So far I count 5 Snp mp's passing comment about Scottish shipbuilding! Zero dup
Quick take.... social value factor introduced to future contracts. Belfast and appledore should score full marks for that! Emphasizing work for shipyards across the UK in answering question from snp. Which on a related note, I have to commend Snp politicians for the incessant vocal support for their shipyards. Where's the equivalent support from NI mp's?? It's maddening. Thanks for linking the document too. No time to read til later and would appreciate any snippets from anyone

H and W were part of the bid team for the Type 31, surprised no work has yet been announced.
Sorry in my 05.11 post when I said ' I will be downloading an audio of the statement at 12.30ish on Future Defence and Security Industrial Strategy by the Minister of State.' What I meant was that I would audio download of the statement which starts at around 12.30. I will try and have it done before a 2pm focus group being run by LSE.
Chrisatrdg In relation to your 20.27 post of yesterday I would add that this from page 50 is also worth noting.
'We will be investing in a renaissance in British shipbuilding through a shipbuilding pipeline. This will reinforce current spending in Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland and provide opportunities across the Union. Strategic and long term investment will increase the capability of the Royal Navy’s surface fleet and allow the development of:'
What I find interesting is not only the reference to Northern Ireland where as far as I am aware there is no significant defence spend but the reference to strategic and long term investment. I will be downloading an audio of the statement at 12.30ish on Future Defence and Security Industrial Strategy by the Minister of State. I would like to see what he says if anything about what is meant by strategic and long term investment. There is one interpretation which I will not mention that would be very beneficial to INFA.

Thanks for sharing Chris... this is excellent and bodes very well for infa. The team have been given a huge carrot from the white paper. The significance of a direct mention should not be underestimated in my opinion. Now it's up to the team to get the mod work over the line. I don't personally have any concerns about lack of experience and the reason for that is called Team Resolute. Even if h&w go it alone I'm sure they will pull on expertise of navantia and bmt if required

Stokey, not far off there imho
Nobby31 In relation to your 19.04 post in view of the time span that it is proposed to have all these ships built (10 years) if BAe and BAB are going to be the lead contractors on all of them that leads to questions of capacity. Both BAe and BAB have had past issues with completing contracts on time and within budgets. In those circumstances to rely only on them as lead contractors would in my opinion be a risk in an area where you would want to minimise risk. So by using INFA as a main contractor it would force them to do more to ensure that contracts are completed on time. Another factor are the connections between INFA and the government. One of these is the Head of Marketing. Prior to joining INFA she was a prospective parliamentary candidate and may have even stood at the last election also she was a past President of the Young Conservative Women. This government are not immune to giving contracts to friends.
Nobby31,
I am inclined to agree that H&W will be thrown something, though as you state, there is no way that the company is capable of assuming the role of lead contractor, given current and past experiences and capabilities (hence my earlier post). The question is how big a bone will we be thrown? It is for this reason that I have remained resolutely unimpressed with the acquisitions of defunct shipyards and maintain my stance that Islandmagee is crucial for the ongoing survival of INFA.
We won’t be the lead party contractor but there will be conditions laid down that ensure work is placed across the four countries ensuring infrastrata receives a slice of activity. The value is uncertain but it’s likely to be in the several tens of millions and possibly more depending on the time horizon one is looking at (that is an estimate not a fact). We won’t be left out and therefore anything we do get will be significant when you consider the current market cap of the company.
What feel does everyone have on the possible work that INFA might get from all the various ships it is envisaged by the defence plan. I am inclined to the view that the worse case scenario is that INFA will be the main sub contractor to build significant portions of ships. The best case scenario is that it will get the main contract on at least one class of ships. I note without further comment from the link on the MRSS in Loosegoose's post of 18.17 that one possible design solution for the MRSS is from Team Resolute partner BMT.
Blair..I'll leave that to John wood to expand

Pacman27 In relation to your 17.39 post I was wondering what is meant by 1 x MROSS and up to 6 MRSS what type of ships are these?
Just think about how many new ships they could have built with all the money they threw away on "Track and Trace" - a whole new fleet! And planes. And tanks.
