I am not a lawyer...but most judicial reviews do not happen. Wasnt the extended public consultation to stifle a judicial review? Who knows its out of our hands.
Stokey. I don't believe anyone knows the answer to that yet - just hope and speculation from the protesters. They are determined to push this issue into the long grass but it seems Mr Poots is keeping his cards close to his chest!

Stifler In relation to your 14.42 post based on a twitter exchange if the ML is granted there will be a Judicial Review one of the arguments is likely to be that there should have been a public enquiry due to the controversy around the proposal.
Maybe DAEFRA are covering themselves for a legal challenge. Is/was the ML issue procedural?
Everything has to be correct for it to be granted and not legally challenged. AEG was in this position last year for an air permit which was granted after a 2 year delay.
Most judicial reviews are not granted. I don't expect there to be one in this case.
They give it or they don't.
would agree Ban. Covid has impacted everything .. but the climate as we start to open up has to be one of job creation and it would need an incredibly compelling case to deny the ML, especially now clearly linked to the hydrogen storage. Fingers crossed for a quick decision
Just seen this https://www.niferry.co.uk/pos-norbank-covering-north-channel-dry-dockings/. Looks like the European Causeway will be in Belfast Dry Dock from 11 May. I note the Norbank will not be doing its Dry Dock at Belfast. I wonder what would be in dry dock between 23 April and 11 May.
Nice picture on LinkedIn. https://www.linkedin.com/posts/activity-6783809108022702080-o5yY
Speedy, the Infastructure Minister Nichola Mallon approved the planning application earlier this year for sand extractraction
from Lough Neagh , a public inquiry was first held in 2018 .
The wrangle over the application has been ongoing for a period of six years. Plant and Civil Engineering magazine.
That seems to be a very good report for Islandmagee - I hope it is getting a wide audience.
There are so many jobs on the line. I would be surprised if a DUP minister rejected the awarding of the ML, particularly as Belfast is represented by a DUP MP. If the science is safe and DAERA are supportive, it should be an easy decision.

Great find by a guy on twitter!
A report commissioned by the Department for the Economy.
Islandmagee is mentioned a few times!
I think I may have mentioned the possibility of Hydrogen storage once or twice in the past ;0)
Don't recall if we've been through this before but does anyone know what is the "normal" timeframe for a minister to make their decision?
European Highlander is now entering the dock this is a feather in JW's hat.Another ship owner is now contracting with H&W - more to come?
I have just spotted P&O'S European Highlander heading for H&W - Dawski was spot on.

Speedy, hope he reads the local papers lol!!
LSE03. Excellent posts and timing. Let's make sure to forward to Mr Poots to help him expedite the granting of ML!
I see it's not to build new ships though

It's unsurprising that there are calls for a public enquiry (PE) from certain parties. I cannot understand what further information pertinent to the project that this would yield as it the subject matter has been so well researched and studied by all sides over many years now.
Were it the case that there were any material gaps in the science, any environmental ,economic or social impacts not properly understood, then a PE might merit consideration. Perhaps I do not fully understand the rationale for a PE; however on the face of it this seems to be a delaying tactic and nothing else.
Whilst it is always dangerous to say "we have nothing new to learn" in any situation, I think the Minister will be wise enough to see that simply kicking the can down the road purely to appease those that disagree with the very existence of the storage project is not a logical or particularly bold approach when considering the need for people's jobs and livelihoods and the obvious wider environmental upsides for gas storage to NI, the south and GB (initially methane then hydrogen) in the energy transition to net zero. Something we can hopefully all agree is a shared objective.
Let's get sensible, let's get some perspective, let's build Island Magee Gas Storage.
Just to add to the fun there is this twitter feed https://twitter.com/Leesadee_Imagee/status/1377914043780972545
We'll find out soon enough imho they are not going to stop progression I think the Irish and British government's both want this to go ahead imho
Chrisatrdg In relation to your 08.30 post having spent the last half an hour reading posts with theories on who H is in Line of Duty this is just ridiculous. It reinforces my fear that the ML will be held up legal wrangling. If the DAERA Minister is the statutory decision maker I cannot see how the executive can legally take the decision for him

CAMPAIGN UPDATE
'Although we haven't yet received confirmation from Daera , Infrastrata announced to shareholders that Marine licensing team have provided Edwin Poots with their recommendation.
Please be aware this recommendation is Daeras opinion of how the licensing process might be conducted going forward based of their findings, and not necessarily a recommendation to grant the ML.
Due to the cross cutting nature , it is possible Mr Poots will need to bring this matter to the NI executive who will collectively determine an outcome.
A public inquiry may well be deemed necessary .
Our very experienced and competent legal representatives are poised and ready to act as required whatever the outcome may be.
