Unfortunately until Appledore get a significant contract to get to grips with there will always be talk of property development. Driftwood are you a shareholder or property developer?
Here is the report from Belfast Live https://www.belfastlive.co.uk/news/belfast-news/harland--wolff-launches-first-20489834
The report from The Courier which links the scheme to the Saipem contract win can be found here https://www.thecourier.co.uk/fp/business/business-news/2178442/apprentices-wind-farm/
" heavily contaminated due to its heavy industrial use"
You sure about that? Or is it an assumption?
Besides the shipyard and a few light engineering units it's biggest use was as a sand yard from dredging.
Not really topographically suited for wind power, Stokey. It's on the leeward side of surounding hills.
Docks? That did make me lol. Makes it sound like a bustling port.
Think more a once sleepy fishing village where the biggest catch now is tourists.
Hi Stokey,
Absolutely, and I don't doubt they'd be some value with it, but more likely at £100k an acre rather than £1m!
Be nice to see something happen with it that provides some value though, even a turbine/s as you've suggested.
Cheers

TheEast In relation to your 08.29 post I remember when Appledore was bought there was some discussion about the 29 acres of freehold land that came with the purchase and what was going to be done with it. At the time there was I believe some discussion of the value of the freehold land. If INFA was to get permission to develop the freehold land then the cost of decontaminating the land may not be an issue as the sale price of housing would probably be high enough to make it worthwhile.
driftwood123 In relation to your 23.32 post of yesterday thanks for this I am not sure what the plan is for the freehold land that was part of the purchase. I have suggested using part of it for a onshore windfarm to power the shipyard and possibly the surrounding area. This ide would bring the operating costs of Appledore down.
Can I ask have you noticed much work going on at the docks ?
Hi driftwood,
With respect, the land is worth no where near that. Property prices aren't spectacular in that part of the world, it is a heavily contaminated due to its heavy industrial use making development expensive and 35acres does not mean 35acres of developable land. I suspect its current use gives the best land value rather than residential use.
Not to say they couldn't look at some residential use on some of the greenfield land of course to extract some value out of it.
Cheers

Hi, first post on here. Living local to the Appledore shipyard it was expected the yard would sell for housing land before Infrastrata purchased, the 35 acre site is worth 1 million plus per acre for water front homes, how Infra managed to pay 7 million just the business value ? a lot of potential equity there.
Chris I wonder why they recruiting
Chrisatrdg In relation to your 19.29 post the Seatruck Panorama is due into the SRQ at 13.30 tomorrow transferring from VT1. It is currently scheduled to stay until Tuesday when it will shift back to VT1 before departing. I do not see anything else coming in during the next seven days. All information taken from www.belfast-harbour.co.uk.
Hi stokey12 - I am fine thank you just watching & waiting for that transformative RNS & currently vessel spotting for the next one to dock with H&W.
Chrisatrdg In relation to your 17.50 post. Thanks for the link interesting read it looks like H&W going forward will be looking for a blended workforce of full time workers and apprentices. If the apprentices stay/ are kept on it would be a good way to organically grow staff.
PS I was thinking earlier today that we had not heard from you recently. Hope you are well.

Edit: We are clearly getting something right & good PR considering all that is going on in NI.This news may make a few politicians think about the benefits of granting the ML.

Today, I announce my candidacy for leader of the Democratic Unionist Party. I love this country and its people and I look forward to engaging with party colleagues in the days ahead.
I have just seen this https://committees.parliament.uk/work/1209/the-navy-purpose-and-procurement/. I will be doing a written evidence submission to this Inquiry. If anybody else has the time or inclination I would recommend doing the same. My argument is that the MOD appears for political reasons to be giving all its shipbuilding contracts to BAB and not allowing other shipbuilders to have the opportunity to bid.
Just seen this https://www.linkedin.com/feed/update/urn:li:activity:6793445979178852352/. INFA appears to be doing its bit by providing Apprenticeships when is HMG going to do their bit and offer contracts?
Whoever gets in they need to show face and issue the ML imho, getting a bit annoying this decision-making
Just be glad its not good old Stewie Dickinson. ;)
On BBC Breakfast this morning Mr Poots was named as one of the leading candidates to take over from Arlene Foster. I am not sure how that would affect any decision on the ML.
Sorry that came across a bit doom and gloom lol. Gavin Robinson would be my first choice. Have no views on anyone else but ultimately I don't think this will impact infa either way
How will this impact infa? Get Gavin Robinson in who has previously advocated h&w in parliament and I think we might be ok
Just seen this https://www.linkedin.com/posts/harlandwolff_harland-wolff-careers-activity-6792830610273644545-mwkA not sure if it is of much interest to anyone.
Saw similar from same tweeter. Fss still up for grabs but being a friendly disruptor looks a bit glum when Bab****/Scotland is being handed future ship designs and work on a plate. Hope I'm wrong!
Just seen this thread on the UKDJ twitter feed. Assuming this is accurate the MOD will probably have to give other contracts to the other contractors who could have bid for the contract to avoid litigation.
