joe - they havent started an rns with "pleased" since lincoln results...is it change of PR?
have to say i am not a fan of that term at the beginning of an rns - seems to often to be followed by bad news!
Sailplane, you've been thinking much deeper than many on here.
It sounds very plausible.
Some might say it would hold water.....
Maybe others noticed that they were not 'pleased' to share the good news that the ESPs were now commissioned, the flow rate was up, the oil was at a new recent high, AM still high level of operational uptime, 14th lift done (to be included in H1 results), 15th scheduled, field determination granted for Lincoln.
Odd that!

The regulations state:
"The boundary [is] to be drawn in accordance with geological criteria alone so the field could be defined as a single geological petroleum structure."
A boundary "is taken as the maximum extent of all the hydrocarbons present, whether moveable or not, and regardless of whether the entire accumulation is in phase and/or pressure communication. "
The RNS states:
"proposed field determination area over local structural closure at the Lincoln discovery".
Did we hope for FD over a larger area of Lincoln, but the OGA have looked at the data and decided rather than a wider area, the presence of multiple fractures means FD is only given for a specific local fracture?
The JV now look at this and are weighing up the value of preceding?
I'm just throwing musings out there, and don't really have any knowldge in this particular area.
Given the previously publicized plans to tie back one of the wells from Warwick/Lincoln HUR must have had field determination.
https://www.ogauthority.co.uk/exploration-production/development/field-determinations/
Fields may be re-determined at the request of any party following the acquisition of new information – either seismic or from wells – that indicates the original determination is no longer valid.
note: "at the request of any party"
Who might that party be?
Maybe I totally misunderstood the RNS, but I interpreted it that OGA have determined a smaller field area than we hoped, and we are now in talks with Spirit on whether to proceed or not, as no doubt the prize is smaller than the JV hoped for.
Did anyone read it any differently?
From the 8-07-2020 R.N.S.
The Oil and Gas Authority ("OGA") has given notice to the GWA joint venture of a proposed field determination area over local structural closure at the Lincoln discovery. Hurricane is committed to working with its partner Spirit Energy on the best route forward for the Lincoln discovery.
So the O.G.A. have proposed a field determination at local structural closure and the J.V.’s are discussing this or is this not the case?
GLA.
I think I may have pieced together what could be happening with the Lincoln conundrum:
why might they have to plug & abandon the already drilled, and successfully flow tested, Lincoln Crestal well in favour of drilling a more shallow production well on Lincoln. And/or why the need for a commitment vertical well?
I believe this has all to do with the need for a production well to be located in a reservoir for which the OGA have been advised of its field determination area ie. what is its 'footprint area' and does it encroach on someone else's neighboring block.
And the figures I've looked at suggest that the Crestal well is just below Lincoln structural closure (the depth of structural closure of the reservoir being determined from the seismic geology data).
Since for a well below structural closure to become a producer would require a field determination for the footprint of that below structural closure reservoir, there then arises the need to know the oil water contact depth to be able to map out this footprint - and hence the need for a Lincoln vertical commitment well, which once drilled and the OWC defined, allows the field area determination to be made - then permission to produce from that well should be forthcoming.
The alternative is apply for a field determination just down to the structural closure (an area currently known from interpretation of seismic geological data) - if accepted by the OGA then a production well needs to be one residing wholly within the 3D space of the structural closure - hence, with this option, the need to P&A the current Crestal well and drill a more shallow horizontal Lincoln well for tie-back to the Aoka Mizu and subsequent production.
All my own guesswork - so as always, do your own research.
