1994 BUDAPEST MEMORANDUM
was treaty document signed by Russia, UK & USA guaranteeing Ukraine's (+ Belorussia & Kazakhstan) protection of sovereign integrity against any aggressor in perpetuity in return for those countries dismantling their nuclear stockpiles following the end of communism and the CCCP.
at the time Ukraine held the world's 3rd largest stockpile. it did not want to sign because, for historical reasons, it did not trust russia. it was persuaded to sign by UK & USA which it trusted.
in 2014 Russia (Putin) broke that treaty by annexing Crimea. shamefully UK & USA did nothing in response. no one (save ukraine) ever imagined that one of the three protective signatories against the rest of the world attacking ukraine would be an aggressor. UK & USA politicians rarely mention BUDAPEST for shame. but they should be shouting it loud & clear now
it was new ukraine's huge political mistake. 2014 encapsulated Putin's view of international law. imagine the AVERAGE Ukrainian's (ie non-nutter) view of russia today
senseman I lived with a Russian woman for 1 1/2 years :-) She was from Yaroslavl , and had an apartment in Moscow
vanny - putin geopolitic sabre rattling is the smokescreen - the raison d'etre is long term regime survival - the current achilles heel is ukraine living standards surpassing that of russians outside moscow st pete and a couple of other big cities. as soon as it does, putin loses support of all save from rich cities and is gone
do as red says and google russian wheat production - will show limitations of your knowledge
senseman 's knowledge on numerous subjects is limited, on russia it is not, he speaks it, lived moscow 18 months, kiev 6 months, visits 3-4 times year now, love of his life for 20 years is russian, has a phd in the field. there is a russian word 'vranyo' (the big lie). the big lie is what powerful people say so often it becomes believed. this is what putin lives off (as did trump and as does johnson). putin gives jack sh^t about russian history, it is all about personal power for most of his clique.
ukrainian russian speakers in eastern ukraine want putin to STOP, and a majority wished he's never started in 2014. but you never read about the silent majority for obvious reasons. do you think the average russian or ukrainian trying to live a normal life gives a toss about geopolitics? they do not
06:01 DYOR
same old same old for a while i guess - we're waiting on laser to let us know when offload is done so we can give a small cheer. but won't see financial impact till feb monthly update
that's why we're indulging into relevant politico without being screamed at
Following on from this "polite" debate this morning............any thoughts on how Hurricane shares will perform today lol.
morning vanny - the crux is this
if ukraine continues to westernise, ukrainian living standards will rise above russians and belorussians bordering ukraine. when that happens mutterings from russians will grow and putin is doomed. the only saving of him and his successor is to create an autocratic safety barrier around russia, to stop russian population learning about western reality being better than russian reality. when poland joined eu and living standards soared, immediately this new economic and personal freedom reality was transmitted along the 330 mile poland-ukraine border.
putin will weaponise gas (because he can at any time) and oil (in future, when he can)
nordstream 2 should be cancelled. germany imports 40% of it's gas from russia - tough titty - writing has been on wall for years. germany has been on the wrong side of history far too often recently. unless it wants to get into bef with any devil and be on the wrong side of history again, is should cancel nordstream 2, get off the fence and pitch in with nato as the rest of eu is doing
it is telling that finland and sweden are lining up with nato
invading ukraine will bring putin down sooner rather than later. his ego exceeds his brainpower- fatal
by the way - the majority of russians do not want a fight with ukraine who they regard as a friend and nice neighbour. and the majority of ukrainians detest what russia has become and will fight on the streets or like partisans for as long as it takes
And if Putin gets his way, ie new pipeline to Europe/ the Western market, the present pipeline will be discontinued, meaning heaven help us as to how expensive western gas bills will be.
Just my own musings or whatever, but closer to the truth that many are not willing to accept!
usa (or any country's) 'nonsense' is not halted by letting putin slowly steal half of eastern europe
the 2 issues are quite separate and unconnected - you have co-joined them
the argument you postulate is emotive drivel
senseman - Grand mistakes - I am glad you are comfortable with that analysis - you have a view which you like to express in many words , I believe that view to be wrong. I have no love for Putin , nor the American nonsense that has scarred the planet.
chique, oh dear, you just couldn't let it go
with the historical-accident of being the world's richest economy & hence most powerful country and world policeman comes the inevitable grand mistakes and errors of justice or morality (eg also British Empire).
that NEVER means that it is right to let the inevitability of history prevent the current stopping of a monster. the logical consequence of your argument is that one should allow a 2nd hitler, stalin or pol pot flourish. or in this case, putin.
the issue of the nature of the means of stopping or limiting putin is a secondary matter
it is puerile to promote that usa, uk or eu wish to engage in war with russia, are unaware of the the consequences of such, and are not actively seeking to avoid such
russia is saudi arabia with nuclear missiles, and, with putin and a modern kgb organistion in place, then some
if you are unaware of any or all of the above, you are beyond help and a simplistic fool
keep posting crap and i'll keep highlighting it at such. you will get bored before i do
Looking forward to HUR sp rising in the next few months :-)
Which country has had the most conflict in the past 30 years - no prizes for guessing USA
They have destroyed country after country for what?
Now they want another bogey man!!
It is impossible for there to be just another 'normal' war with Russia so do not wish for it and do not be talked into it by the chief warmongers of the planet
handbags at dawn, chique, handbags at dawn.....
usa has had trump
uk still has fat boris
so who are we to talk
but putin is stalin, hitler & pol pot all in one
he pockets free oil & gas money, puts sod all back into russian infrastructure or people. instead spending cash creating proxy wars & destabilising the world as means to remain in power. the antithesis of democracy
i would urge all to spend 10 quid new or 5 quid ebay for Catherine Belton's (Sunday Times Book Of The Year)
'PUTIN'S PEOPLE - How The KGB Took Back Russia And Then Took On The West'
riveting read, fact not opinion
sense - I never called you old , foolish and an imbecile but I defer to your judgement
chique - me old foolish imbecile
i don't need to - you're doing a grand job...)
senseless don't flatter yourself
chique
thank you for proving the point
senseman - sod off - go watch some usa propananda
chique you are a fool
so russia doesn't want to destablize ukraine and eventually install a putin puppet?
and letting him do so would be good for the world?
if you are going to introduce political argument not directly related to the price of oil & HUR - at least post sense not drivel
"There is just uncertainty in the market maybe due to inflation rate and ukraine crisis. Imo, any conflict in Ukraine oil and gas may go up."
Al news hype and American cunning - ' Russia wants to install a puppet ' - have people forgotten about the Nuland tapes in Ukraine
There is just uncertainty in the market maybe due to inflation rate and ukraine crisis. Imo, any conflict in Ukraine oil and gas may go up.
