Hi DD, no tone intended just interested:
In what way enlightening? That TA works? that share prices are manipulated?
And as amore general point (not aimed at you DD), How do you know when the SP does, in the video, fall below the support line, that it is manipulation and not because of maybe soon-to-be- revealed news that makes the SP fall further?
That's why I asked what practical help is it?
(But anyway, this is a rabbit hole. each to his own. I try not to get sucked in but hey ho, I am very predictable, you press the right buttons and I bang the cymbals with both arms frantically).
Wyn, Wyn, Wyn, I think you are being a little disingenuous regarding my views on TA. I know that charts do exist and that they indicate the "has beens". The difference is that I don't use them to predict whether a company is good enough for me to decide whether I should buy it or not. I am not a trader, day trader or swing trader. I am an investor. I like the business after I read all I need about it and I buy it. Sure, if I buy something that every summer the share price goes up and every winter the share price goes down, I suppose Winter will be the best time to buy it, but only after all the fundamental information about the business is good and, of course, the price (despite the seasonal movements) doesn't horizontal, otherwise I would buy in the Summer. Either way, that is not dependent on tea-leaves readings, but fixed patterns and not dependent on amateur private investor psychological analytical assessments.
Regarding your other second point, again, I guess you didn't watch the video I posted many moons ago:
https://youtu.be/W90V_DyPJTs
And please, don't tell me there are "rules now that prevent it from happening". I wasn't born yesterday.
A couple of things ST, for you to believe any of that you have to believe in TA, which you are very, very dismissive of to the point of not believing in it at all.
The other thing is that everyone knows about placing stops and how tricky it can be to decide where to place them because they can be taken out so hardly news. However, one glaring omission from the video was how, given the demo, the big money forces the SP down?
Given the example that the big money wants more stock, How does the SP fall? If they just mark it down arbitrarily then lots of others might see it as bargain and buy before it get to the stop? or does the big money sell their own stock hoping to buy it back lower down, but now they need even more to replace their earlier sells?
I am not saying it does not go on but in my experience its much less frequent and that MM's get a lot blame for manipulation on no evidence at all.
My view is that support and resistance lines are very useful to time exit and entry and the MM's tend to move the prices only when they are already close to those lines to gauge market reaction. Clearly in the demo buyers would be attracted only when the price broke the top of the line (or resistance). Buying on support in the example shown is a much riskier proposition.
It makes a point but I am not sure how useful or practically helpful it is in reality. Just my 2 cents
ST
I'll watch it all the way thorough then. Teach me to short-cut things ;).
Agree with your sentiment, and it's quite easy to want to sell-up when a share drops as the fear of losing even more kicks in. Even when we've done our DD, we can questions if we've overlooked something, or, if there's information others know which is not in the public domain yet.
Whatever happens, it's clear us PIs are fair game.
Don't think it could have put across any better. Well said ST.
Sero = Zero
It has never happened = It has never happened to me
Hi Sea,
That video isn't all about the stop losses, though I too agree with you it isn't a good tool to use in my personal view. I saw a drop at IAG a few days ago that might have triggered a few stop losses at almost Sero pence (scary stuff). No, the video was more to show the lack of decency that these MMs have to drop the sp of a share so it triggers pis stop losses so that they can mop their shares. That was the point I wanted to make. What makes them less criminal than the dude waiting the old man to come out of the post office so he can mug him? Folk who think that is ok as it creates fluidity can stick their views where the sun doesn't shine. It has never happened, but I have read enough about the MMs not be gullible what they do for a "living"; certainly more than just create a market. Idgits.
No stop losses for me ST. I'll choose to trade when I want.
Maybe I'm just a control freak ;)
And to, I forgot who they were now, having a go at what I referred to as the Market Makers' "helping hand" and some of the "tactics" they use to create "volatility" and how that is actually "day-light robbery" in my books, here is a little youtube video explaining one little aspect of how the MMs "help" to create fluidity, according to some "gullible" folk here.
In my view, and that's my view of course, I prefer to call a spade a spade, but suits you Sir, if you think differently.
