New,
Thanks for the details.
Darnit and tnbird and dprussky,
For both POQ and Origin -- the goal and the strategic plan late last summer was to run the flow testing at the Kyalla 117 site and then move forward with two 3 km horizontals into the low Kyalla wet zone starting this spring. All the extensive data gathered to date was pointing to an excellent reservoir with lots of wet gas and good geomechanical properties for fracking.
This Paul Alain-Hunt reporter from Perth is somewhat accurate -- in that both Origin and POQ were absolutely moving in the direction that the next two wells would be full length horizontals into the Lower Kyalla -- as that is the fastest route to proving up commerciality for both parties.
However, the fly in the ointment is flow rates -- as there isn't a chance in hello that Origin is going to spend another $70 million to drill two more 3 km horizontals into the Lower Kyalla -- if they can't get the current well flowing with some level of comfort. That is the reason that Origin submitted and got approval for the Velkerri flank well -- just in case the 117 doesn't flow with any significant gas quantity. It is also the reason why we haven't had any clear updates on what the next steps are going to be (other than trying to get this well flowing in the dry season) -- as they don't know with any certainty what exactly they are going to do if that 117 well won't flow.
Here is the email at the bottom for the Perth reporter, Paul Alain-Hunt, -- in case anyone wants to follow up on his reporting?

Bottom Line and would be quite simple and revealing......Why doesn't Origin and/or Falcon just let us and the general public know what the plan is for the next few months?? They have permits, they appear to have the indigenous population informed and so on.....and the Aussie gov is going to throw in some money.... I guess that is too complicated for some silly reason........hmmmm!
d,
Thanks. I wonder if they've cleared the pad yet. It would be very encouraging if they drilled them in Industry average time. But, I'm concerned that is not their plan based on the comment of a comprehensive fraccing program in the fall. Honestly, if they started in April, I cannot understand why they wouldn't be fraccing in June or July. What a frustrating exercise this has devolved into.
I have to say this gentleman who wrote this article is confident in his time frame for origin wells, now I do not know what is his source but sounds like Origin abandoning current well and starting again.
"Australian gas giant Origin Energy and joint venture partner Falcon Oil & Gas Ltd. have received approval for their two-well drilling campaign in the #beetaloo. The wells will be drilled between April and August. Then a comprehensive fracking program. "

Yes DP.....good find. Thanks for the post.......hopefully with the government funding drilling....if applicable to these new horizontals..... perhaps Origin will get this done and the flow completed on our most recent liquids show.......let us hope they get both matters managed in the dry season......oh, its pretty dry there now...... : -)
Many thanks dprussky,
You seem to be able to find these nuggets of information - thank you. Sounds encouraging - it's this sort of thing that I thought would be under discussion but no mention of it. We'll probably get an RNS in the morning!
Great for finding this and thanks for sharing the info.

The list of EMP's that have been approved -- (link is on my reply below to dprussky) includes a full horizontal and fracked well for the Velkerri on Falcon's EP 76 permit -- which gives Origin the option to drill that well while the flow testing on the Kyalla takes place for 60 to 90 days next month. This is the proposed Velkerri wet gas exploration well that is fairly close to Empires already declared wet gas zone in the Velkerri next door to our EP76.
When looking at the map for the proposed Velkerri 76 wet gas exploration well (on the link pasted below) -- the EP76 well is on the Amungee Mungee pastoral lease cattle station -- which is the same station as Origin's successful first horizontal well. This should hopefully make the process to drill the Velkerri 76 well a little easier to move forward -- if Origin elects to not waste time during the dry season and gets started on the Velkerri drilling with the idle Ensign 963 rig.

Will we will see a planned cooperative effort by Origin, Santos and Empire to get as much cumulative info as possible this coming dry season? Origin on the Kyalla, Santos on the Velkerri and Empire contributing anything of value. Do you think these companies are actively sharing intel and coordinating progress operation plans with minimal overlap for mutual benefit? Thanks in advance
good find dprussky, but too soon to know exactly what Origin will do -- as they will be doing flow testing first.
You will see from the link below that these two EMP's for more horizontal wells at the Kyalla 117 well site were submitted a year ago to the NT Dept. of Energy and only just got approved on Feb, 22nd of this year.

Looks like we will be coming back and drilling 2H wells at Kyalla 117
