On Facebook on 6th December Fastjet replied to a question regarding Dar to Maputo Route 6 Dec '17 fastjet fastjet Hi Fazila , we would love to take up that route one day. Stay tuned on our website on www.fastjet.com and look out for the latest updates and you may be surprised...wink emoticon;-) .SC Given the reply I can only assume that something was on the cusp of being announced and did not happen when expected.
Well said, fatherelmer. I entirely agree with all your comments (especially: (a) likely timing; (b) issues on the 'to do' list that we are waiting for; (c) communication skills of Nico and his team) ! And a Happy Christmas and an excellent New Year to all FJETers.
PJM, in my opinion it always would've been an 'after event' as you put it, and to expect otherwise was unrealistic. Given the shambles Tanzania seems to have been lately, though conversely we (folks on here) seem to believe that both Zimbabwe and Mozambique have been progressing well, and that there are a number of other 'issues' outstanding (eg South Africa via Federal Air, LUN-HRE routing, the ERJ145 for Tanzania, any other route expansions) I would hope that news / an update will indeed be forthcoming early in the New Year (though I can't say I'm holding my breath as Nico & Co are possibly even less communicative than Ed and his Merry Band were). To you, and all other FJETers, I wish you a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.
now running out of time for Nico to give investors an RNS update of how plans have gone against target for the last Quarter of 2017 which was predicted to be the quarter of the big change. It looks like it will be January for an after event last quarter review.
I am fearful of negative feedback for passengers missing flights when we apply the 30 minute rule. A Fastnote is advising passengers to arrive 3 hours before scheduled departure time as JNB staff are doing Extended Travel Checks during the busy Xmas / New Year travel period the Fastnote covers 21st December to 2nd January. With heavy traffic to the Airport at that time of year, I am sure that not everyone will have read Fastnote or indeed not made it to the Airport and through Extended Checks before 30 Mins before Departure, and if they miss the flight and ruin their Xmas will try to blame Fastjet.
Thanks PJMI, I did wonder if that might be the case. Even so, it`s still only 14 days before the flight dates so they still can`t be booked 21 days in advance!
It was actually on 12th December that Fastjet announced the extra flights, it just seems that the Herald's News is always very late in this case 8 days. This has in the past caused confusion with people thinking it is new news, when in fact it is just late reporting.
Announced today, according to today’s Zimbabwe`s The Herald: ``...Fastjet will introduce additional flights on the Harare-Victoria Falls route in response to demand during the festive season. The airline will offer two daily return flights on the route on December 26 and 27.`` The article ends, pointing out: ``Fastjet requires customers to book 21 days in advance.``!! I`m sure Fj will know if these extra flights were actually available 2-3 weeks ago?
Sorry, I disagree, having lived in Capetown for 11 years it is very much a destination that African s aspire to visit from other Africa countries, a friend of mine runs an upmarket hotel in Greenpoint he tells me 70% of his customers are not white.
I suspect it was a condition from Ethiopian (to lock out competition for a period / permanently) in order for them to be able to justify, and make the necessary investment.
This is clearly why Protectionist ZAMBIA was playing hardball about LUN -HRE and increased flights. So much for Open Skies and level playing field. When will they learn that this type of attitude slows their overall growth and prosperity in every sphere and harms their population.
I would be wary of any plans that involve CPT. Disappointment has followed the efforts of many airlines to establish flights from Africa to CPT. CPT is not a black african destination and better in my view to grow the JNB hub.
Thank heavens
The Zambian Government has announced firm plans to launch the national airline= Zambia Airways,in conjunction with Ethiopian Airways as the strategic partner. The Government will contribute an initial $30 million. Domestic routes are the priority with international routes to follow. It is anticipated that the airline will up and running by the end of the first half of 2018.
She should be online with FJI by tomorrow.
No flights by FJH today yet.
Fjetcrazy, indeed CPT has long been talked about as a potential destination, especially from HRE
Fatheriemer Marksman I found those comments interesting too, equally as interesting was the comment ( capetown can not be ignored)
marksman, the following phrase was also curious.... He was confident about the case for a full-service low-cost product in Africa Is this a signal, much as you suggest, that fastjet will be moving (even further) away from the established LCC model???
“In Africa, you don’t have a massive middle class market. You have the haves and the have nots. It is also true that rich people remain rich because they know how to get a good deal.....if I can give them what they want at the front end of this aircraft.....we are likely to become a more credible trade partner to travel agents.....” – Nico Bezuidenhout, TIR Southern Africa, December 2017 issue. This penultimate paragraph in the interview with him seems to have a most surprising hint that our aircraft could become two class but with such modest load capacities, maybe just passengers perceived as “the haves” will be assured of a seat up-front and a fuss made of them with free top-up drinks and even a selection of edibles? I’m just guessing but sounds like some distinction will be made between those who have and those who don’t have?
Pj. Combination of all the points you raised, we will be back to normal tomorrow hopefully but TZ has suffered terribly with a perfect storm of so many things going wrong, I’m hopeful that tomorrow will be the start ( finally ) of implementation of full schedule
Yes
Given the timing of FJI coming on service and FJH going off service, I wonder if there was scheduled maintenance to be done before the XMAS/NEW YEAR busy period, or even maybe an E190 Recall Maintence Issue where we had to do the second as soon as the first one was finished. Or maybe it is still a manning issue.
