Looks like it came from the WHO regional office in Africa. Couldn't find it mentioned within their latest omicron update from their main site....

As a rule of thumb variants are milder. If this is the case for omicron and it becomes the dominant variant, this could be very good news indeed. Delta was milder than beta.
Vaccinated Can still spread and catch variants the same as unvaccinated
Pointless move by the spanish
-SPAIN has banned all unvaccinated Brits from entering the country from WEDNESDAY in a bid to contain a new strain of coronavirus.-
That’s the way this is going to play out. No reason for those who are vaccinated to stop travelling to unrestricted Countries.
Pretty amusing that Omicron is an anagram of Moronic. You don’t think it’s a subliminal message for the unvaccinated do you? Lol!
With any luck this new variant is even milder than delta and becomes the prevalent version.
It wIll take SA scientists about 10-14 days to grow and examine the Omicron cultures before they can say if the current vaccines will continue to work. Therefore expect stockmarket swings based on hearsay and misinformation for the next 2 weeks.
Sharp jump UP on indices weekend futures. I am guessing there is good news regarding the new variant.
Breaking news, Omicron now in Australia it would appear?

"Easyjet is NOWHERE NEAR ITS PANDEMIC LOW."
You seem to have forgotten that we did not have a vaccine then and deaths were much higher.
Conversely, we now have a vaccine, most are double jabbed, and deaths are multiples lower. You are not comparing apples with apples.
Results will be published on Tuesday not Monday. However, I still doubt Monday will be 'muted'. On Friday, the UK was the only country adding significantly to its 'red-list'. This weekend the rest of the world has followed suit. Also, on Friday the UK hadn't instigated new testing/quarantining rules and in addition to these, we now have 'plan B' measures on transport mask-wearing etc. A lot has happened this weekend - I doubt Monday will be quiet on the markets.
Has Omicron already gone global?

Ossingh, the reason YOU think it's an over-reaction is because you have misunderstood the shareprice. Easyjet is NOWHERE NEAR ITS PANDEMIC LOW. There were HALF AS MANY SHARES the last time it was close to this price in March 2020. For it to be close to that low now in terms of the value of the company (market capitalisation), the shareprice would need to be about £2.35 and that is a distinct possibility over coming weeks imv.
As for a 'muted day on Monday' - I think you've forgotten that the full-year results will be published alongside an update on current trading.
Also, Friday's drop of 11% was nothing like an 'over-reaction' - now that the red-list has been re-instated and more countries have been added, plus additional testing and quarantining requirements, fewer people will be travelling. I'm not sure what you think is a 'no brainer' but unless you can get a grasp of the fundamentals regarding shareprice, earnings and upcoming events, you should perhaps avoid adding on easyjet for now.
FTSE looks ready to plunge back below 7000 on Mon.
I have clocked the lower op, oss. Just gets lost in all of smiffy rubbish posts.
I’ve read the negatives on here today regarding pcr tests.. it’s not a big deal for anyone who likes to travel. Last month I returned from Barbados and dealt with the testing ok, and the week before Xmas I’m off to the Canary Islands for a few days, very cheap travel and 2 day pcr testing in Luton airport terminal on day of return, results in 24 hours or less.if the travel sector gets an ar$e kicking again this week I’ll load up and the return on profit will certainly cover all my travel plans for next year. GL people with your choices.
Well Blue.
I think markets are going to be volatile all winter. Not as bad as last winter however. Vaccines have cut the number of deaths down to about 10% of what they were last winter. There’s still plenty of f*#k wits around however (especially in Europe) that think this is some big conspiracy theory and won’t get vaccinated. In relation to this new variant I think it’s being blown out of proportion. The Kent variant was more contagious that the original variant, then the delta variant was more contagious than that, now the new variant is even more contagious. It’s that contagious now you can’t even open the front door without catching it.
What we need to be ascertain is (if your long or looking for an entry point) does EZJ have enough cash to see them through to spring? If they do then average down and wait for a strong rebound in travel next year. If they don’t then your stuck with a dog that’s going to come back and ask you for more money.
Personally I think reintroducing the PCR tests has screwed us and isn’t necessary on top of red listing countries in Southern Africa. Big back lash from the travel and tourism sector this week. More volatility.
If the usual herd instinct kicks in, then blind panic on Monday?
This is going to be a hard hit for EZJ on Monday, onto of the results which are likely to be bad. Could be we'll see the sp in the mid £3s by the end of the week. What do people think about the wider market? All indices continuing down?
This action is going is going to have a massive effect holiday plans for the next few months, imagine returning home late evening Friday, doing the test on Saturday, probable no result until Tuesday/Wednesday at the earliest in which time you have to self isolate.
I would expect a lot of cancellations over the next few weeks, this is NOT good for Easyjet.
I agree that the 48hr mandatory Isolation requirements will very likely have severe impacts on European short breaks for definite imho!
Avocet.
You must be down to your last few brain cells
“business as usual”
Fool !!
I don’t know how anyone interprets that as positive.
Who’s going to go to Europe for a weekend, self isolate for 2 days, take a PCR test and then wait another 2 days for the results. I’m supposed to be going skiing in January and there’s no way I’m doing that.
This will get hammered again on Monday.
Nice very positive message from the press conference.
Press conference basically business as usual, as before, no change. Possibly huge rally on Monday is people see sense. The new variant changes nothing.
Except self isolating when you return for 2 days and a day 2 PCR test
Up and away Monday …
