Nice to EUZ have finally posted news on linked in about Sheds post. I think we need new management ASAP
EU making €72b in grants available to assist the move away from Russian energy. Majority will go to green projects. That should help underpin the demand for zinc and perhaps create an opportunity for help with a geothermal project. I certainly expect the grants process to be streamlined given the urgency to free Europe from dependence on Russian fossil fuels.
More than just a thought. "Geothermal energy, more than a key objective, a necessary and more than viable energy resource in the underground Toral project. Date set for the Geothermal event." I think it's fair to say they're clearly looking into it probably because it will improve our ESG profile if we get to a mining licence application. Whether it could be scaled up beyond powering Toral is in the distant future but there must be huge scope on the licence for this kind of thing. I forget how large the licence is but it's way beyond the block model you see in the resource diagrams.
I dont want to pee on your fireworks MM but if the Geo Thermal energy thing is even a thought then thats exactly the type of news that drives SP's and should be released.....but it hasn't ?
Difficult to tell Mm's, we know that Toral sits on I think 3 separate councils so we have more than one town hall to satisfy when it comes to permits but they do seem to be talking about multiple activities as well.
Would that be the geo thermal they are talking about
Added activities / different permits??
Is that what this conference in June is about?
New local media interest today:
https://www.diariodeleon.es/articulo/bierzo/europa-metals-acomete-ultima-campana-sondeos-700-metros/202205170335262221382.html
Not much new, just about the only thing I can pick out to suggest they haven't just regurgitated the Proyecto update is this:
"In parallel and complementary to this work, the added activities aimed at the different applications for permits in the field of the different administrations, both of the Junta de Castilla y León and the Central Administration, continue".
Added activities / different permits - could that be more than mining on the theme below or just the vagaries of translation?
It's a bit annoying that if the drilling had started on time we would now be anticipating the end of the programme, as it is we're probably half way through the first hole, a comparable drill (022) took exactly one month. Clearly the primary purpose is to increase the certainty about the resource but they did also say that "Additionally, all holes will be geotechnically evaluated as drilling progresses, providing additional information for the feasibility study process". Whether that could include analysis contributing to a possible bolt on geothermal project is debatable I suppose, certainly appears to be some scope that Toral could be a multifaceted project. Guesswork for now but the clues do seem to be coming from the Spanish office.
Sorry I’ll edit my ramble into English…With this talk of Geo Thermal energy is this finally what’s going to be pushed towards. My thoughts are they were hoping to have the drill completed by starting in March hoping to have this done for this date or there abouts as it would have taken 3 months.

On day 2 financing to be announced followed by panel decision….Turning point for EUZ…Interesting times ahead? Thoughts

Ha ha Newbie that was my 'best laid plan' before the world turned upside down. Had to de-risk over there as there is really no way of knowing what on earth the outcome will be. Strangely I was never as intrigued by their projects as I am by Toral despite it performing so much better, at least when the 'Russian discount' was a concept rather than a brutal reality! I confess I still have an interest so will be disappointed if world events have ruined what could have been an amazing story - it will be fascinating to find out what is going to happen even if it is only what might have been. Best of luck anyway.
Morning Shed, it’s fingers crossed time over on EUA for us. If we’re not as long as last time in suspension and it’s really good news I might put a few pounds more in here. The noises all sound positive so it could easily double any new investment from the sp.

Interesting to note the advantages of rolling it out as the mine progresses Mm's, suggests new projects will be most sought after for bolt-on geothermal projects. Just a hunch but I think it is highly likely we'll see something like this at Toral, providing we have an economic Pb, Zn, Ag mine first and foremost.
Interesting I wonder if this is why the extra drilling is warranted

Is there light at the end of the tunnel for mine shafts slated for closure? Two Spanish engineers say there is, noting that they could be the sites for geothermal energy providing power to towns that need it. Writing in the journal Renewable Energy, the researchers describe the tool that enabled them to estimate the amount of heat a tunnel could potentially offer industry and households. The engineers from the University of Oviedo in Spain developed a new method to estimate how much heat could be generated by a mine tunnel whose life expectancy is not great. It should be noted that the use of geothermal energy, which draws on the Earth's natural heat, is not common in Spain. 'One way of making use of low-intensity geothermal energy is to convert mine shafts into geothermal boilers, which could provide heating and hot water for people living nearby,' Rafael Rodríguez of the School of Mines at the University of Oviedo was quoted as telling SINC (Scientific News and Information Service). 'When the mine is still active one can access the tunnels easily in order to gather data about ventilation and the properties of the rocks, as well as to take samples and design better circuits, and even programme the closure of the some sections in order to use them for geothermal energy production,' he added. Although geothermal power can be generated once a mine has been commissioned, 'it is no longer possible by that stage to make any modifications [to the mine], or to gather any useful data to evaluate and improve the system.' Unlike other systems that have been put forward, the new system developed by the Spanish scientists highlights the importance of taking action before the closure of the mines, while underground galleries are still accessible. Mr Rodríguez and his colleague María Belarmina Díaz investigated the geothermal exploitation of a two-kilometre-long mine shaft. According to their analyses, the temperature of the rocks located 500 metres below the surface stands at some 30°C. The majority of mining areas in Asturias, which is situated on the Spanish north coast facing the Cantabrian Sea, record temperatures of some 30°C. The engineers noted however that this temperature can also be applied to other regions. The authors write that the system could be used in areas where mines are likely to close in the near future. Such areas can be found across Spain and the rest of Europe, the researchers noted. SINC quoted them as saying that water could be forced in through tubes at 7°C and return at 12°C,
Ive been doing some research on geothermal energy

This is the conference etc

Look at the maps I can see why the states are heavily wanting geo thermal energy and to invest in it...Spain has the heat to generate this type of energy .
More interestingly

Adding the production of critical metals like lithium, manganese, and zinc from geothermal brines could provide geothermal electrical power operators a new competitive advantage and help get geothermal onto the policy agenda.
This is what energies zinc will be used for

I think LR resigned because WA found gold when identifying the deleterious elements :-)
He is now officially unemployable :-)
Joking of course but who knows…..A third of the worlds gold comes as a by product from lead and zinc mines…….still hoping of course.
From memory he did rule out diamonds in Russia when talking to Katy on Proactive :)
I think they said in any sector in any country basically.
But why would you fund anything else over your own PFS ? that would have to be outside driven and if so maybe that is why LR did is exit stage left. Who knows ?
Didn't someone comment that 'new projects' didn't necessarily have to be mining?
Interesting from this linked in post as to who keeps liking the posts https://www.linkedin.com/in/gonzalomayoral
He’s does mining project development also does geothermal and construction. Just so happens that’s what the meeting is about but has been liking the posts for a while. Is he looking at Toral? Very interesting
This is what it says The European Shallow Geothermal Days will take place from June 14 to 15, 2022 at the Institut Cartogràfic i Geològic de Catalunya (ICGC) in Catalonia, Spain. Registration for the event is currently open through this link. Please note that there are only a limited number of tickets available.
Surface geothermal energy represents a well-developed, non-volatile and clean technology for providing efficient heating and cooling throughout Europe. It is often associated with the use of geothermal heat pumps, but it offers a wide range of applications, such as geo-cooling or seasonal heat storage. Still widely considered a niche technology, however, it has the potential to become a powerful game-changer towards decarbonized heating and cooling technology. The next decade from 2021 to 2030 is crucial to meet the SDGs defined in the European Commission's “Clean Energy for All Europeans” initiative.
The Shallow Geothermal Power Days aim to connect policy makers with scientists, to promote and discuss opportunities to advance this technology in the next decade. The event organizers continue to search for innovative solutions and good practices for efficient and sustainable use of surface geothermal energy throughout Europe. There are limited spaces available for:
ORAL presentations (see Day 1 – Tuesday, June 14, 2022Afternoon sessions 1 and 2) short (15 minutes)
POSTER presentations (12:30 Day 1 – Tuesday, June 14 and 12:00 Day 2 – Wednesday, June 15, poster session/roll-ups during networking fresh Lunch).
