Nissan changed battery chemistry because of hot weather degraded battery. The cooling issue was because they chose air cooling instead of water cooling that Tesla use(who would have thought). Your Ignorance is like a lighthouse in a sea of cleverness. Are you a member of Tesla Q??
Munroe was very critical of the very first model 3.The latest production he said was the best in world. Funny how Nissan is best in EV considering they admitted that they used the wrong battery chemistry for the leaf. As for Tesla one word "octovalve".A PCB is a PCB it's the software that counts. Tesla produce their own processors that is optimised for their own AI. Not bought from self drive R U.What gives Tesla the edge is vertically integration and optimisation. They cast the back section of model Y with one casting using a special aluminium alloy developed by themselves this is a 300lb piece that is cast in 8 millisecs instead of 160 parts on normal car. Is that far enough ahead for you.
Big disconnect between here and the states again..
The 'future' cannot, and should not, be ignored by joe pubelic as it will require a speedy adjustment in a World that wants to get back to 'normal' - change is upon us and many will not like / adapt to it !!
Hoping that I am proved wrong and 'change' will be embraced - I will surely embrace a modest profit here after many years invested in this sector - been very, very, very patient with a watchful on eye on the MnM thieves.

A vision of the future?
That was to dumpunter. Sandy Monroe knows more about the horse ****e stuck on your shoes than you about manufacturing. To dismiss the best industrialist the states have and a top flight manufacturing consultant in same sentence says it all.
That was to dumpunter he lives up to his name or taking the proverb ial
Ok obviously you know more than sandy and Elon musk enough said
The majority of disruptions come from outside an industry, a totally new player and this is what Tesla are. The automotives carry huge legacy; vast plants and machinery, a workforce skilled
in old practices, outdated supply chains and buying methodologies, senior management with skill sets no longer necessarily relevant. Tesla is starting with a blank sheet of paper when it builds its new ‘terafactories’ and it is being done on a scale never seen before. Hydroxide in at one end, cars out of the other. They are forecasting big drops in price over the next decade, which is normal when a disruptive technology takes over.
Some people are speculating that in 10 years time there will only be half a dozen companies building the chassis (wheels, electric motors, battery) with what we now know as automotives building the ‘coach’ and supplying their IT..... in a rapidly changing world Tesla is a long way ahead.
Watch a guy called sandy Munroe on YouTube. He is a manufacturing consultant he gives the lowdown. He reckons Tesla no. 1 V. w no. 2 . The I. d in different market Tesla premium and I'd mass market.
Tesla is 5 years ahead in engineering and material science also 8-10 years ahead in electronics. The launch of the I. D was a scam. V. W no. 1 in December sales because the forced dealers to buy cars. Then in January dropped to number 25 says it all. The I. D is crap got 3 computers on board that cannot talk to each other .Bid problems with the nav and entertainment integration customer complaints through the roof. V. W outsourced it all and needed another computer so everything to talk to each other proper sh@t show.
FSD will be Tesla's USP for many years. IMHO.
Big Auto are like rabbits staring at headlights. They know they have to move but cannot. The business plan for last 20 years is outsource everything then squeeze the suppliers. This produces a company with very little engineering knowledge and they are now realising that they have to vertically integrate and bring everything in house to save costs. Some will not survive transition sad but that's how the world works. I see sometimes anti Tesla rhetoric on here but remember Elon is ahead of the game by a country mile.
fpvone iv'e just screen shot that for future reference as you've hit the nail on the head.
Musk will win the construction completion race then take all of this supply chain!
Note OEM buy finished product off lg et al. The buyers of lithium hydroxide will be the intermediates who supply the factories. Until the product line matures it will be this way that's my take. All these giga factories are 2 years away except Tesla who has the drop on everyone. When they move the fireworks will start.
As I said in an earlier post, CEZ will want first dibs. They are planning to build two gigafactories and will need chemicals. It seems that Tesla are planning to produce their own batteries at their Berlin plant but they also buy cells from CATL, L&G and Panasonic. VW buy cell from CATL and Panasonic. The Koreans are big investors in the Czech Republic and we know that KC has visited Korea with CEZ (thought to have been initiated at Govt level) and is thought to have met Posco and Samsung (L&G perhaps as well).... the Koreans would be good for Czech as they would invest in the whole supply chain in country as opposed to producing batteries for export but the EU might favour European companies if EU grant money forthcoming. Politically the Germans are at the heart of the EU so they may ‘encourage’ us to provide offtakes to battery makers who make for VW, Daimler Benz, BMW (https://thedriven.io/2020/07/02/germany-ramps-up-electric-vehicle-battery-production-with-big-state-subsidies/)
Then there may be Eu encouragement for European Battery producers like NorthVolt, A123, Verkor, Varta, InoBat H3DA.....
It will be interesting to see how it pans out..... the balance between a country’s interests and an industry’s interests. The balance between politics and finance.
If I was a betting man I would say;
CEZ, NorthVolt, InoBat, Panasonic, Tesla
Who is linked to who though ? :-)))
VW = CATL or LG or Panasonic ? Etc etc
TESLA = LG & PANASONIC and anyone else whi can provide them with 50,000tpa of Li2OH per year @@ ££££
I think Fingers or Iain put out a long list of 5,000tpa to about 30 different clients late last week ?
Would be interesting to see that again ?
I’ll chime in with a few obvious ones
Tesla, VW, CEZ, Northvolt, BMW, LG Chem, Samsung, Panasonic, Ford, Johnson Matthey,
LITHIUM Buy.
Could you please suggest from your experienes being very long term holders the possible / probable
Companies and/or the Gigafactories associated for possible newbies wanting to add , keeping in mind the offtake possibilities.
EG if CATL or LG put in an offtake , who would they likely supply ? There are so many car manufacturers and gigafactories I am getting confused who may deal with say a VW OFFTAKE ?
