Burning fossil fuels is no longer possible - added the Chancellor - for this reason we approved the decision to stop the thermal in 2035. Producing batteries in Germany and Europe starting from raw materials and single cells is strategic. Being independent of technologies and materials is essential after the brutal invasion of Ukraine by Russia and after the pandemic ».
Great news @Fingers. Stand by!
Power Co will manage VW’s entire battery supply chain, from research and development of new technologies to the mining of the raw materials to end-of-life recycling. The news was announced at a groundbreaking ceremony for the company’s first battery plant in Salzgitter, a city in Germany’s Lower Saxony.

In particular, for now, these factories are planned in Germany, Hungary, the Czech Republic and Spain.

VW said sk innovation will supply that's from North Carolina????????
Have a look at this slide that we were once given and we all gobbled it up. No explanation or apology was ever forthcoming. Money for old rope.

Raw material supply is the big elephant in the room. Compare and contrast this presentation with the rocksteady presentation from a couple of days ago.
I find it incredible that not a single battery giga has stated where they are getting their battery materials from !!
Conspiracy = a secret plan/unlawful or harmful act.
As you all know VW are to produce prismatic LFP solid state cell.
LFP = Li+Fe+PO
As expected, nothing that would help the share price or give an indication of how things will move forward.
Listening carefully now !! About local resources.
VW presentation mentioned that they would have to rely on battery materials form Asia due to EU bureaucracy holding up local supply chain.
If this occurs I shall be putting max effort into an enquiry why battery gigas and EU compromise on ESG+ and get resources from Asia.
Maybe SalzGiga will push the EU politicians on to making a f**king decision.
They're also talking about it like no one ever thought of building a battery factory before. Hilarious!
A lot of comments on the youtube chat mentioning Lithium & where will they get it from?
for me VW are full of S&%t.
They're basically going to exploit africa & south america for the cheapest costs
still no mention about lithium...
feck me there's a lot of back-slapping for a company on the ropes!
Started just now https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LVu9Jw6lZRI
is te 'We have the power' event live today?
I think (unfortunately in the case of mining) whether it be for minerals/metals or extraction of hydrocarbons, there can be a resource size which starts to work against the case for it being a good investment. Whilst I don't doubt this resource will be utilised, and some people will make fortunes from it, I suspect it'll be/is being fiercely fought over. Hopefully Keith's been savvy enough to ensure we don't get 'done over', but everyone has their price, and when it comes down to it we won't get a say as small (ish) PI's.
This is the kind of concern that emerges, quite understandably, in the absence of information. Suspicion. I've been thinking the same way. Nominal buyout for 100m and a fat golden hello onto a board for our golden boys.
But surely not eh? I mean, I doubt it, I really do. Nonetheless the thought is at the back of my mind because there's nothing to counter it.
I suspect they're going to try and cut us out one way or the other. It's pretty clear this is what's been going on for years now, and likely we'll be forced to accept their terms. Like it or lump it, as we've not been privvy to any of these 'agreements' which have been made, we only have one mans word to go on that we're in any way protected, which as things stand isn't a great assurance to have.
Colin, unfortunately due to a serious lack of information we do not know where we are heading. The cez gigafactory is the big one. Do cez want to take all of the Li product and use it in their batteries or will they be willing to sell some to others. We’ve been left here trying to second guess where we fit in wrt European supply. And we’re doing it by looking at what others are doing and saying and not by what our directors are saying. Unacceptable….
Why would a German minister not "bode well" for us? The Germans have to obtain their lithium from somewhere and our supply is a short train ride away.
If there's a German minister, it doesn't bode well for us, i'd be more excited if a Czech minister was on the stage........
If the trade is significant why hasn't the share price reacted one way or the other ?
