FTLR. I visit this forum because occasionally there are interesting and informative views and insights, not to exchange pleasantries. If you claim to have inside information and make extremely misleading and false statements about DTG's finances or frankly inane statements about their operations (Madeira is a key destination!) you should have the stomach and confidence to face challenges. Filtering is for losers.
Manchego - filtered for your lack of anything nice to say.
What I also find hard to work out is
if the cases do not drop to near zero, we open up society guess what happens and other countries will know this but will they take the risk of a 2nd round.
machete
do you really think the Spanish having been through what they have will let that situation even happen
you have time yourself why would the Spanish let any country back in if they still have cases in tbere country
it started from a few remember
very hard to see a way out of tbis
Unless the conspiracy theorists are correct in which case it will unwind as quick as it happened 5g waves?
"If it’s just the Canaries open for example, you will have every travel company in Europe fighting for a limited supply of hotels rooms." But of course Jet 2 will be laughing because they have already paid for all the rooms they need, right FTLR and james2k66?
Maybe there less vericaly challenged than some sorry.
Public will not have a say in the matter te sturgeon comments about summer hols over the weekend
Will they allow you
I know price rises would be seen as profiteering, we just know how the algorithms work for stuff like this. The same thing was seem after the demise of Monarch and latterly TCX. Not saying I agree with it, but its a fact of economics. I hope the opposite happens and prices are kept low to help kickstart people going way. If it’s just the Canaries open for example, you will have every travel company in Europe fighting for a limited supply of hotels rooms.
Well, that also depends on base. For example, in Glasgow i happen to know that the spirit to actually go on holiday is huge.
Heard quite a few people who had their Canaries flights canned (on the day everything was kicking off) trying to get rebooked onto Turkeys just to go somewhere. People are a resilient bunch. And after being locked in their homes for so long, even more determined to get somewhere else.
IMO DYOR etc
Am not so sure how the public would take price rises in available destinations
profiteering of a pandemic??
I would give it my middle finger, fair price all good.
It's all about risk med high peeps will avoid , low risk some will travel.
It's a waiting game now
James2k66, canaries and turkey are the key to future success here, most money to be made on these routes imo, just like any year, but especially now. Just like any island destination, as long as the threat to a second outbreak is minimised the opportunity will be there. Supply and demand dictates as well that prices in these regions will rise significantly if they are the few holiday destinations open to the British and Europe in general.
Testing in the industry would be a big task but not insurmountable. Something will need to be done. Government already has suggested wristbands for people who have recovered from the virus.
My guess is a phased restart with the canaries and possibly turkey. With other dests coming later.
Given the fact that the canaries is so big for J2, it will be significant.
Some reliable 15 minute tests would be good as well, so that travel can be resumed upon taking a test at the airport or whatever. There are many ways to make it happen and Jet2 are poised to do just that.
I do wonder how many in this thread hold 73 ratings. *shifty eyes*
FTLR seems to know whats up. I mostly agree with what he is saying, feel like he will be the first to offer his opinion should anything change.
Yes I am to your question mate.
I suppose it depends on the numbers of the virus in the next 2 months on any restart time wise May and June no chance but if the numbers fall a lot ad expected 2nd half of July could be on the cards
If the general public see the risk is low and it's if, they will slowly return Imho
ATB
Couldn’t agree more. BTW, assume you are in the industry as well given your ask re base?
A lot of things involving any shares at the moment is pure speculation. The virus will be massive for the industry and those of us that work in it. I have never said it’s going to disappear at the drop of a hat, although I wish it would, just like many of us.
Public confidence in air travel is going to be hit yes, would I get on a flight and go abroad.... probably not straight after this has started calming down, that’s for sure. However, this will all depend what is going on in the background to ensure that the flying public are kept safe, i.e. no use of middle seats, maybe running aircraft at reduced capacity could be a potential, or even testing prior to flights (maybe a little bit too far fetched that on, but who knows). Unfortunately, no matter how connected any of us are, one thing we can only guess on is what exit strategy the government have for getting things back to a “new normal”.
Also think they will be in touch with the powers that be.
FTLR
All this speculation is good but it's down to governments in the end , can you see the virus being next to nothing this year? that is the question, Only then will flights resume Folks hols tbis year is not any affected countries priority imho
And lime I said the mental side will be a factor getting folks back on an plane will there are cases in the UK.
It will not be like flicking a switch on I can assure you
Whilst May 1st would tie in with the end of Boris’s second three week lockdown, there is no point starting flying if say Spain, Turkey, Portugal etc are still in lockdown. Turkey for example is requiring all visitors over 65 to quarantine for 14 days on entry.....some holiday! FO website gives all details of restrictions. I am more for the 17th July date
It’s not the fact that flights are not “allowed” to commence before June 16th. There us nothing legal stopping them flying now if they wanted to, it would be completely pointless and throwing money down the drain, but they could do it. It is a massive undertaking to get everybody back in the air though, it’s not like just getting in your car, starting it up and going. There is probably a months worth of work to do between scheduling, currency for crews etc so anything before this is unlikely for reason of this, plus the company won’t want to give an over enthused estimate to the public and keep putting it back further and further. I still personally believe this is the very earliest they will start ops again, and even so, ops normal will take somewhat longer.
Walts, you may be right. But flying on 1st of May will almost certainly 99.9% not be happening.
Correct only official when the company announce
That article was said to be fake news at that point by several people I know at Jet2, kept reiterating that it would be 1st May until they announce otherwise. Expect today to be the day
It was known last week about the 17th June date....
https://money-tourism.gr/en/jet2holidays-operations-will-not-re-commence-until-17th-of-june/
Jet2 are very well placed to get through this. One of the strongest cash reserves in the business, helped significantly by the government’s furlough scheme and a management team who really care about the business.
Jet2 were also helped by the fact that quite a few aircraft were leased in from Air Tanker, Titan etc. These have been given back so it’s an easy way of reducing capacity going forward without having your own aircraft sat around doing nothing.
You would have to think that Spain, Turkey, Greece, Canaries will want things back up and running as soon as possible. Tourism is their income and people aren’t earning out there. The good news is that it seems to be getting under control in Spain, we are behind Spain so hopefully when we are outside the other side and able to fly again, Spain will be ready to accept incoming tourism
I'm in the travel industry and heard yesterday from a contact that it will be announced today so it seems to fit.
