Jensen. Absolutely, BECCS is the crux for Drax in the medium term. Does anybody know where they are they up to with this?
So where does the energy come from if drax stopped operating today? Sure as hell isn’t coming from any of the other renewables in the short term. If Beccs is going to be a reality then it needs investment at government level, that’s the game changer. I don’t think drax is the answer but I think it’s part of the answer alongside other opportunities. It’s obvious there is a lot of animosity towards large energy generators such as drax as it’s an ideal target but maybe than been overly negative bring some realistic solutions to the table. If beccs technology is advanced and successful as we all hope imagine not only the market potential but the impact this could have world wide on the heavy polluting countries.
Subsidy should stop NOW
What a sham : https://amp.theguardian.com/environment/2016/dec/19/power-station-shares-jump-ec-approves-wood-burning-subsidies-coal-switch
Frac - Youre talking out of your ass.
Biomass is renewable. You need to go back to school to learn about the carbon cycle.
Everyone who's serious about recognises that we need Bioenergy with carbon capture too to get to our Net Zero targets. See the 2020 IPCC report.
Without biomass and carbon capture we're all ****ed...unless Putin decides to destroy the planet before we get there anyway.
Coppicing and forestry management are essential for the planet !! Common sense and has been an essential part of our nation !! BUT paying billions to excuse it as ‘GREEN ENERGY’ is unforgivable !! This is Kings clothes and time for the wet fish to get real !!
Excuse the language but the program was utter horse****.
I remember when shows like Panorama would stretch to an hour, but they clearly didnt have much to say. It seemed very one-sided: they only spoke to 2 people throughout the whole show, both of whom were clearly anti-biomass at the outset.
The Canadian government decides which trees need to be cut down and provides the licenses to protect the health of the forest overall. A simple but unbiased approach would be to have asked a spokesman why they provided the license for that area? Presumably the answer if theyd bothered to ask might have been to help prevent fires or the trees were dieseased or dead.
Im surprised Drax didn't sue the BBC for that hatchet job.
The business model is floored though.
How can it be a green initiative to burn wood sourced from all over the place to be transported for energy.
It's illogical . The carbon can not be absorbed anymore as the tree is gone, and the tree is then transported and burnt releasing more rubbish into the atmosphere. While leaving less established trees which any capability to be absorb the rubbish. Being replaced with a baby tree.
As with most things sadly, it's all for show, and little logic, reasoning or care has been taken to really make a difference.
bottom feeder - watch the programme, I think you will find that the forests being felled are of trees that cannot be coppiced. It's a matter of clear fell and plant new saplings.
The programme was very tunnel visioned tho'. No questions about why the Canadian / British Columbian government are selling licences to log "primary forest"
I haven't seen the BBC programme et. However, it's important to seek an 'unbiased', educated viewpoint.
One thing coming out of this programme appears to be that it is a local group that voice concerns over environmental issues and so-called 'violation' of natural resources etc.
This appears to be seriously overlooking the improtant aspect of "Forestry Management". The stock being harvested appears to be classified as old stock, hence viable for Coppicing etc. It has been proved beyond doubt that Coppicing Forest, which occurred for centuries in the UK, was exceedingly beneficial for the forest and ecology of those managed areas, as well as biodiversity.
So, my view (fwiw) is that people should be asking if the coppicing going on is actually beneficial or damaging, not simply the BBC helping to voice the opinion of a group of people.
Once I've viewed the BBC Programme I hope they have taken the time to provide ALL benefits and disavantages of the Coppicing process, and not just relied on scare-mongering to try to get some 'cheap' viewing points.
Panarama often do good research, but I have noticed in the past that they do seem to be heading towards more ' TV Rating' based reporting now.
At the end of the day, Coppicing is an essential aspect of Forestry, and we need to consider Energy Security as a very important aspect of all our lives now.
The fact is that the Draax Power stations are going to prove to be VERY important at least in the short-term during these troubled times.
Is Drax a sham ? https://yaleclimateconnections.org/2021/06/whats-the-carbon-footprint-of-a-wind-turbine/
$6billion !! How many poor& disabled people are you doing down
$h1T
Renewables eh !!! Justv****!
For some of the lazy gits who refuse to look it up themselves…

The BBC programme was very damming and I am afraid the price will drop tomorrow .
I think the future is black pellets rather than white . Therefore I think DRAX should buy Active Energy ( AEG ) which it could with petty cash .
Haven't been keeping track of news since I sold but now I've seen this post, I know there will be a reasonable gain coming to the share price soon.
Their business model looks like a scam
Alex Knight wants yo look st business model...errr you are cutting down forests. He ignores the questions what a dick
Panorama ha heater job. They really ate chopping some bollix off, big drop yomorrow
Yeah right. DRAX are looking bloody awful with every second that passes on Panorama.
DRAX outbidding timber companies for 'rare old growth primary forest'.
Will go quickly to well below 500p. My short target moved to 450p. Easy money.
I hope drax do take bbc to task it’s about time someone did for their lazy biased journalism
A good reply from drax PR which highlights the inept, poor and generally one-sided view that the bbc has become renowned for in order to attain viewing figures. I wonder how long before the bbc starts redacting
Despite that it’s a great position to buy 20% down on its potential imo
bigsmoke and myoung, more like Tweedledum and Tweedledee me thinks!! Panorama stopped being worth watching about 40 years ago. It does not do primary investigative journalism. Licenced felling presumes an assessment has been made of the timber. Canada is considered one of the worlds best governed country's. The criticism doesn't add up.
