Just buy enough food and drink to last the duration of the film and eat your popcorn casually, you won’t need to wear a mask, the person behind you will be more than 1 meter away (the new guide lines) and you will be facing away from them anyway!
Its solely down to the police to enforce
I run a business on the high street and have a huuuge A board advising masks must be worn
Now I'm not going to refuse long loyal customers or get into an argument of them remembering their masks. I encourage collect at the door but allow them to enter now if needed.
Why?
It's no different to an idiot in a car that almost rights you off or throws rubbish out their window. We all love to have a word but are we going o risk getting stabbed or worse over it?
I don't think cinemas should advertise against masks or not public enforcing either we need some controls if we're to get some semblance of normality again. Without customers we are nothing after all. We need to work not against imho or we could get the book thrown at us then where would we be
@salsami When did you go, that's interesting potentially positive from my POV, the new rules are from today, was it today or earlier? As was the post (and overwhelmingly negative sentiment towards) I was drawing people's attention to.
I'm not wearing a mask for any activity, I would like them to publicly state that they are not enforcing so that more people go, footfall is down for all businesses that enforce masks (or even try to imply it's a requirement for all, you cannot enforce against disabilities).
I'm a small investor that would like nothing more than for the share price and footfall to recover with 1/3 of my cash in cine and currently underwater.
Members of the public are acting as mask police causing others anxiety over going out, this should stop. All may mandate but only some try to enforce. The fact that they may not enforce or are winking at customers "but not if you eat" is great, I would have preferred a statement/advert that included the acknowledgement of exemptions is all.
I've been to two showings in two different cineworlds near London. Staff wear masks but we didn't have too, ordered nice popcorn and drink, sat away from other groups and enjoyed the movie. Only thing I would say, they should provide straws that are packaged but other than that ... fells like normal cinema after you over look the masked staff and loads of hand sanitiser stations
Agree @ TradingPace.
It’s a pretty desperate deramp when ALL indoor activities mandate a mask not just cinemas.
Poor fellow wants a lower entry. Onwards and upwards for Monday.
The sentiment has turned and confidence following tree shakes is being predictable and investors are buying on dips or holding tight.
"Take off mask, bite to eat, put on mask, repeat." Is that what people are doing in food shops are they, the same shops that have queues wanting to get in? Yes I know there are discounts available but people are still going out in masses. Your logic/ viewpoint on masks RE cinema is laughable. Another one trying to get investors to sell I guess. Even if Cineworld do enforce masks in the lobby areas (debatable regardless of what it says on their website) they will not enforce in the screening rooms because, you know, there's no such thing as the Mask Police.
Probably good news for CINE as just buy a drink and popcorn and you don't have to wear a mask when seated.
I'm not sure how many people (and remember this is based on Twitter posts!) are probing their website, the tweet is below:
"UPDATE: In line with new government guidelines, all customers will be required to wear face coverings at all times whilst visiting our cinemas from tomorrow.
Face coverings can only be removed to consume food and drink."
It didn't go down well. Pull down mask, touch food, touch face, pull up mask, rinse (well you can't rinse) and repeat.
Schools might reopen once teachers pay is threatened, secondary school pupils are being advised to wear masks, and other such rubbish.
I'm extremely thankful they are opening as I'm stuck a tidy sum, just drawing attention to the lower footfall and negative sentiment all shops have received since the mask rules came into force. Grabbing a loaf of bread, people will put on a mask for 5 mins, sitting for 2 hours, I'm not so sure that's the main message their ad campaign should be focusing on.
@TP I was asking for a statement saying it wouldn't be enforced, that way there is no ambiguity as in supermarkets. No one wants a confrontation in front of a crown about a disability, the public statements were met with great thanks from the disabled community that I saw.
@In2Win Interesting to see if they update their page from today...
1. Cineworld have made it clear on their website and adhere to guidelines.
Wearing a mask is required except when you’re seated and if you have to eat popcorn or have a drink.
2. Wearing a mask reinforces the directive from the government and mitigates the risk of governments taking a u turn on the reopen of cinemas. We have seen what happen with casinos and some leisure activities. Cinemas are great in that they respect social distance by way of staggered static seating, have screenings cleaning after each viewing and avoid frequent touch points like casino chips for example.
From Cineworld’s website:

Least we forget that schools re open next month. No social distance, no masks, frequent touch points and millions in large classrooms.
We should be thankful cinemas are operating this policy as an interim measure while we await the approve news of a vaccine around the corner.
Strange as if you look on the Odeon we are safer cinema page, it clearly states that masks don't need to be worn in screens.
Are you really saying that you think people are going to be put off going to the cinema because they have to wear a mask from the car to the cinema screen? They'll take them off in the screen and I don't think the mask rule will be enforced anyway. Especially when cinemas are actively going to be contributing to GDP.
I was reasonably happy with my 5k loss turning around until I took a stroll to the CINE twitter announcement (stating they will fall in line with the insane mask guidance) and read down the comments.
They are being ratio'ed hard by mask skeptics (sane people).
They do say masks throughout in line with guidance unless you're eating, but the little flashing ad states "all customers must wear" which should really carry the caveat "unless exempt". They have replied to individual comments stating that exemptions are allowed (as its law it has to be one would think) but that should for part of the ad IMO.
People aren't going to book tickets and then chance going without a mask and getting turned away.
It's lose lose sadly, if people are mask fanatics they will go Karen on non-mask wearers sitting behind them, talking, whispering and sniping throughout, ruining the film for both. If you are a non-masky and this would take the shine of a trip out then why bother. Food shopping non-masked is all I'm doing, cinema isn't a necessity, it's just not worth the hassle.
The big supermarket chains almost all made public announcements stating they would not enforce and would ban staff from enforcing the guidelines - be interesting to see how busy cine are next week...
