Apologies for giving out incorrect information. I stand corrected by @funinvestor. So Goldman Sach's share holding only dropped a fraction, it was the options that caused the big move down.
Indeed, they'd better search elsewhere for the $5billion they need for these fines!
Sorry Drifty69 but that is not the numbers at all re Goldman's movements.
The number of shares is total shares in company and the shares actually held were 0.8% down 0.2% to 0.6%
The big move was options on shares using financial instruments.
Their holdings and any sales in Cineworld will do square root of zero regards this other matter.
UKSL, The RNS says Goldman's position has gone from 6.52% of the shares down to 1.26%. They now hold
1,372,797,489 shares. They crossed the threshold down to 1.26% on Monday 19th October.
That will pay some of the fine, but they need a lot more than that!
@drifty69 how many shares are they (GS)holding ? May be they sold some today .
Shorter - CVA or bankruptcy for GS; oh wait, they are a US company so they can use your Chapter 11 approach.
Thats's true UKSL. Goldman's have been very naughty in Malaysia. The $2.9 billion fine from the US Justice department is massive, but in July this year they also agreed to pay the Malaysian Government $2.2 billion for similar shennanigans that took place in Malaysia between 2009 and 2019. $5b is 2/3rd of their annual profits. That's got to hurt!!
I bet they'd loaned Trump that $400m, Bill Barr and Steve Mnuchin would have brushed this $2.9 billion Justice/Treasury Dept fine away!
Here's an extract from a Washington Post article re@ this issue from Tuesday 20th October.
