Just a thought... when people think about the first half results you automatically think January-June
Now... everywhere was open until about March was it?? Possibly later in USA (I havnt had a proper look) then opened in August ish
So... are people forgetting the first 2/3 months of this year which would have been very good (I think someone mentioned better than 2019) so the H1 results might just surprise people....
Just a thought (as I’m guilty of seeing H1 as jan-jun but we weren’t actually closed)
Good Morning M00la,
Here is what I found about our UK experts: I believe that they're politically and financially influenced by third parties.
Chief Medical Adviser Prof Chris Whitty, accepted, $40 million from Bill Gates

I would agree as Mookey always states his first priority is to keep customers and staff safe. He like many of us, realise this is a long term i.e. 9 months when normality could return and in the meantime we tread water and for the CEO the same will apply to the business. The 24th should tell us on how well they are achieving this. DYOR
I wouldn't say it's necessarily bad news. Cineworld is complying with regulations in the most responsible way and what they are saying here is that they are not shutting down operations in areas that have been locked down.
Ah thanks for that. That is bad news then.
@Prayfor
Cineworld have sent emails out in the UK stating that areas in the Northwest under lockdown will have no film starting where it will finish after 10pm.
I feel like any company that can be proved to operate "safely" and by that I mean with a significant reduced risk of infection by the measures they put in place Borris will try not to impede because these companies are providing jobs for country. Retail and Cinemas are likely to fall into that category but pubs and nightclubs need to be looked at. It's about minimising risk to find the sweet spot. As someone posted here yesterday it's interested that as soon as they opened up schools the virus began to increase, they will likely try to pull threads from other parts of society to allow for the risk of schools to remain open but I doubt a total lockdown, their nuclear option is what they described as a "hand break turn" so a short sharp total lockdown but I think that will be an absolute last resort if these localised lockdowns and curfew measures don't help turn the tide and lets not forget if it does happen, they have emphasised it would be short.
What movies will their be toshw
Why would anyone have a lockdown of everything and Risk billions of £££ and jobs if you can operate the business safely...
Pubs cannot and restaurants cannot as your masks are all off all the time..
Cinemas and a lot of other places can operate with strict enforcement of sitting no where near anyone, all the same direction and with a mask on (yes u can take it off to eat, but only briefly and not everyone has food) so it’s completely different
It’s all just to make People realise we are still in this and let’s not make It worse now
USA is what I’m
Looking at now.. be good to
Find some news on New York and California if anyone has??
It only looks like a 10pm curfew for pubs.
The good thing about cinema is that they can operate whilst complying to social distancing rules, unlike pubs.
I admit, this may be the tip of the iceberg in regards to lock down rules, it feels as though boris is trying to ease us back into a full lock down. For now atleast, we should be OK.
Bang on @mark_rs, Trump will never lockdown and when a vaccine is available the US will win the bid for the bulk of it!
It’s all good cinemas are opening but movies are getting delayed
Right... fact is the USA holds 75% of our business
They never locked down and now are heading in a very good direction they thought everything was going g to get worse when in fact mr trumps gung oh attitude of letting g most people get it delayed the situation but now it’s actually working...
He will NEVER lockdown even when he was faced with the worst situation in the world a few months ago
Let’s be honest it’s to scare people into paying attention yes there will be lockdowns of local areas and probably a few restrictions but we’re passed the situation where we are all sitting at home....
If that happens we are all out of a job including the mp’s....Which will never happen
California and New York to open an day now if they havnt already (someone might have info on it)
yep its global, lockdown imminent sadly
@Damodubya
Only by De-rampers. They need to post stuff to scare people into selling so concentrate on the UK. CINE has 9,500 screens with 1,000 screens in the UK.
And that is FACT - not suppositions of what may and may not happen
I think that there is too much focus on the UK business on this BB, if it was a UK centric business I doubt very much I would have any holdings left at this moment but as people have pointed out this is not the case. The main issue is that the share seems to get treated as such. That's the frustrating part.
I understand the issues that are the U.K. media and covid
But...
-Deaths are not up!
-The U.K. only has 1000 screens I believe
-75% of business is done in the USA
- why do u think large businesses are buying into cine
People just forget about where this business is based and get wrapped up in U.K. news
