An outstanding reply Pushmepullyou to my brief post
Thank you so much
Mick
No need to apologise, what I said was that far too many publications put pressure on their writer's & journalist to slant articles or news reports to suit major sponsors and advertisers, that is the experience my wife and many of her journalist friends.
Most nights I listen to the BBC world service as the coverage of current affairs and news from all over the world is far better than any other media coverage.
Mick bbc relies on government for funds ,hence licence fee.
Not long ago they were warned , abide or no more funds.
A government controlled media.
That is the reallity.
Quite so Mick, whereas Gulf news is a puppet of the oppressive regimes in that region and certainly not impartial.
Sorry Tibbs just read yours post, but a while back you did **** off journalists on the basis of your wife’s experience. I am so pleased that you are defending the BBC which is so essential now. Apologies again.
mick-b, absolutely. By far the most worrying thing that we are living though is the death of the fourth estate. Trump et al, helped by the Russians, have managed to use their fake news to tarnish the serious press - New York Times, Washington Post, Times, Guardian, and BBC, so now people believe bogus news and don’t trust the real thing. For me this is by far the biggest danger the West faces. The BBC has incredibly strong editorial rules and a very robust editorial policy unit but even many on this board from Mizolgit to Tibbs have been misled to mistrust it. It is the cleverest way of undermining our democracy and far the most depressing thing about reading this board. There are many like Tiger, Prof and Uncertain who understand the importance of truth but sadly clever politicians are winning the false news war. I rely on the BBC to tell me as it is in Egypt and to help my view of Cey. IMHO.
Gulfnews sounds like it is part of the Sisi PR unit and member that Sisi is somewhat of a dictator
and he allowed the authorities to deny ex president Morsi of his proper medication for diabetes and heart condition
The BBC are t more impartial than most and their journalists are required to do proper research and present both sides of the story as it unfolds.
The problem today is that many people just choose the medias or social media coverage that agrees with their own opinion .
All news needs to be interpreted from as many sources as possible .

Saudi and Emirati media dismissed anti-Sisi protests in Egypt that called for an end to the military leader's rule on Friday, despite global coverage.
The two Gulf states, both of which key allies of the Sisi regime, failed to report on the events in the country, according to a report published by Arabi21.
Major newspapers, including the UAE’s Al-Ittihad, Emarat Alyoum, Al Bayan, as well as the kingdom’s Okaz, al-Watan, Medina and Riyadh, made no mention of the protests though some reported a football match between Egypt’s Al-Ahli and Zamalek teams.
Even English platforms, including Saudi's Alarabiya and the UAE's Gulf News and The National followed suit, indicating a clear policy toward reporting the events in Egypt.

opps S/B...........huge effort
A condition of their licence is that the BBC HAVE to be unbiased.
Unlike any other news media output anywhere it's a Government decree
That's why the BBC does make a huge effect.
Obviously it's impossible task
I find them unbiased but then I'm a liberal or a snowflake (a new populism term, I believe)
I think it fair to say the bbc these days along with the others are far from impartial.
Hi Dansul.
Thank you for the reply and the link although to be fair I would rather trust the integrity and the accuracy of the reports from BBC The Guardian & CNN than "Gulfnews".
"Gulfnews" cannot be regarded impartial and tends to be very biased in some of its reporting
This was my reason for supplying more than one link on the issue
Hi mrtibbles, I was very disturbed by reading your post, and went to search the truth i found that those sites you mentioned are exactly as Monkey read Monkey write. they are all fake news and pics and videos are from older as the Arab spring as it was called. this site will correct those fake news by The Guardian, CNN and BBC.

GLTA,
Dan
I wonder if our old friend Siko will comment on these protests?
Sisi really needs to start delivering on some of his promises such as improving the standard of living for ordinary Egyptian’s and he could achieve that by sorting out the judiciary (SCC) who go out of their way scupper foreign investment (Law 32).
Hundreds of Egyptians arrested in latest wave of protests against Sisi
Egyptian authorities on Sunday detained an award-winning human rights lawyer after she attended judicial investigations into protesters arrested during recent demonstrations against President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi, her lawyer said.
Mahienour El-Massry "was arrested as soon as she left the State Security Prosecutor's headquarters in Cairo where she had attended the investigations as a lawyer for several of those arrested during the demonstrations", Tarek al-Awadi said.
Hundreds of Egyptians took to the streets in Cairo and several other cities across the country on Friday and in Suez on Saturday, to call for Sisi's departure.
According to the Egyptian Centre for Economic and Social Rights (ECRF), 365 people have since been arrested, AFP reported.
