Is the £37m debt wiped out now with the successful sales? What about the 7 mortgages? Any sign of them being paid off?
The business model is working like a well oiled machine. Ki and Wanyama brought on for £2.5m and sold on for £18m. McGeady brought through the ranks and sold on for £10m. England international keeper brought in for £2m, now worth £5-6m, Gary Hooper likely to move back to England with another £3m in profit banked, and all done whilst negotiating a path through Europe's elite competition and banking a further £25m. Expect a tough start to the season as we rebuild, but the money men, the scouts and the management team have an excellent track record so the future looks rosy.
You could give him the benefit of the doubt if he is an isolated specimen. Unfortunately, he appears to be one of a very large number who have absolutely nothing left to come back with. Using child abuse to score points is not an unusual comeback from them. I seriously wonder about the mental health of these people.
Sorry I'm posting this so late in the evening, hopefully you'll pick it up on your way to school tomorrow. Referencing child abuse in a share discussion forum is shameful, but not surprising. You're the sort of 'fan' that tarnished the name of the now liquidated Rangers Football Club and no doubt will carry your infantile behaviour on to Scotland's newest club. Your parents will be so proud of you. Good luck with your GCSE's.
£25m banked from CL, £12m from Wanyama, 44k ST sold, 8 figure deals with Nike and Magners and European football almost guaranteed for the rest of the decade. Let's compare this to Scotland's newest club. £0 income from Europe (and a further 3 years in the wilderness), £800 from the pawnbrokers cup, 6 figure sponsorship deal with Blackthorn's (no s******ing at the back), 'technical partnership with a kit manufacturer (no not Adidas, that was just another of the former CEO's porkies), losing £1m a month, Chairman ousted and warning the fans of cash burn and ST sales falling 10k short of last season despite being on average 50% cheaper than this great club's..... Yip, it's a worrying time for Celtic supporters :))))))
Fee agreed for Wanyama. 2 new recruits brought in for £5m. Looks as though the money men will be in a position to bank the £25m Champions League money and trade on the strength of one transfer. This is the strongest position any Scottish club has found itself in. With a bit of luck the club will have another crack at the CL and further bolster the balance sheet.
English media heavily linking Arsenal with Victor Wanyama. £12m mooted, though half that would represent a magnificent return on the £900k outlay. A fabulous job being done by the board, the scouting staff and the football management.
What price did you buy in at and how many do you hold?
I understand your concerns re alcohol but as we've seen in England, with the proper restrictions, fans can enjoy a couple of pints and behave themselves. Stop selling at 2:30, open for an hour after the game. This would encourage fans in to the stadium in time for the ko and allow others to stay behind for a jar until the traffic clears. Don't forget the local boozers are packed beforehand so drink is readily available. This would simply allow Celtic to capitalise on part of that market. I also note the club will be offering free entry to the bars pre match, though this will be restricted to 800 punters. If it's good enough for 800 it should be good enough for the rest of us. Here's to further success on 26th May.
Pretty much agree with you... I'll be renewing my season ticket and am very happy with the reduction in price - Truth be told it's been too easy this season and really, we want some competition... That's why I don't mind mind MWell, ICT,DUFC coming and having a go - at least some teams have come and tried to make a game of it... And of course there's been some great nights in the CL - Lets hope for the same next year. Personally, I don't want to see alcohol back in the stadium ( I would like a smoking section though :) Problem for me is where would the line be drawn ? 20 odd years ago, the football crowds were totally different ( lots of drunken behavior ) not sure I want to see that again..... This season ( whilst away at work ) I visited Eintracht Frankfurt, where you could have a beer ( a decent beer ) and a cigarette ! in the stadium - no problems but I'm not sure we have the culture for it in this country... ( I also went to see the Boston Redsocks a few weeks ago on another trip - $8 for a so called beer ( a cup of p1 $$ !!! ) ) Anyway, for me, reconstruction or Celtic going off to pastures new is the only answer - Celtic are "too big " for Scotland - the only team to make a challenge over the years could only manage through cheating and financial doping... says it all.... Hail Hail
The reduction in ST prices is a fantastic gesture which could see the club maintain its ST base of 42k. Going forward however the club will have to lead an agenda for change in the domestic game in an attempt to increase revenues. The death of Rangers Football Club impacted severely on it's tribute acts attempt to secure sponsorship (a quick look at the trackside hoardings says it all), but we are not immune from the impact. We are by far and away the biggest club in Scotland but are left without a realistic challenger. It will take 5-6, maybe 7 years before anyone steps up (be it Sevco, Sevco MkIII or some other reincarnation), so what can we do to boost revenues domestically. Alcohol in the stadium would generate cash without question. Summer football is another option which could increase match day sales. League reconstruction WOULD have generated more cash for the other clubs but their narrow inward thought process prevented that from happening. Thankfully we have a guaranteed spot in Europe and a fantastic scouting network. We're doing our bit for the game and the coefficient, now it's time for others to step up. Fantastic uplift in SP this year which we can hopefully sustain (unless Sevco go under, AGAIN).
look danboo....only a rangers fan would be so obsessed about attendances ......so please..away back to follow follow and stop trolling......you sound about 8 years of age
you are talking **** there buddy
the 'I know, I've been 3 times' patter. I'm there every game and your 25-28k is complete nonsense. Now, accept the facts, the attendances at Celtic Park remain OFFICIALLY in the top 6 in the UK. Unless you've been to all the other clubs and can confirm the ACTUAL bums on seats, I'm afraid the facts will have to do. You throw Sevco in (mmmm interesting), however, to mention them in the same breath is laughable. Firstly there have been more bums on seats in CP this season than over at the Sports Direct Arena, the CL sell outs made sure of that, secondly, the 172 additional average punters are paying half the price for their ticket. Finally, collusion, I'm not sure that I agree. The club has a responsibility to all supporters and share holders, in addition they are bound by the laws of the land and if this means assisting the police with enquiries then I'm afraid it's a price we have to pay. The GB bring some great colour and atmosphere, but I'm afraid their are some within their number that see themselves as more important than the club itself. Perhaps they should focus their attention on supporting the players on the pitch and ditch the political protests.

http://www.emfootball.co.uk/attend.html Add in sevcos numbers are higher than ours, our bums on seats - attendances, not ST, are between 25-28k ( I can confirm this having attended 3 league games (I live in dublin) this season at those numbers) that puts us outside the top 15. As a fan that doesnt want to see what happened to sevco - happen to us - I want us to address each of our problems front up. As you'll know, PL admitted at the CT meeting last night that he was colluding with the police to have fans lifted in the GB. If you are going to try argue with someone - at least know the inside track. I suggest you read their press release from last night.
Name the 15?
As a 43 year old Celtic supporter you should be only too familiar with the average attendances at CP pre the return to CP. The core support has always been in the 30k's, the fact that the core now sits at 42k remains impressive. You continue to ignore the fact that Celtic will always remain a draw to promising young talent not quite ready for the EPL. That is the business model, so any notion of luring top drawer internationals is a pipe dream and in all honesty totally unnecessary. Celtic are GUARANTEED European football for the next 3-4 seasons, it could very easily be the CL each season. The crowds will turn up for these big games and by then we may have another challenger in the SPL bringing a new brand of sectarian baggage to the top flight of Scottish football which will in turn bring additional revenues. I say well done to the 42k who paid top dollar for their domestic and European tickets. The additional 18k who forked out premium prices for their Euro tickets, and the huge numbers who swell the clubs coffers buying merchandise. Finally I pay tribute to the management and scouting team for scouring the 4 corners of the globe to unearth promsising young talent like Ki, Wanyama, Izzaguirre, Forster, Hooper, Kayal, Matthews, Rogic etc, all of whom will produce a return and all of whom can be replaced on a relatively small budget as long as we keep the current scouting system in place. Glasgow's Green & White!!!!
correction - Celtic have fallen outside the top 15 attendances in Britain - thats a fall from what i think was top 5 three years ago and top 3 prior to that. i would suggest thats a reflection on the fans.
I ask you simply to address the issue of attendances - and you hide behind ST. Im 43. And a well established investor and great fan of Celtic - like you i am sure. but I am not a flag waver - if we do not get into the CL next season - crowd numbers at SPL games will dictate how many transfer requests are put in by the Lustigs, Ledleys etc. I blame the fans for the pathetic numbers - I blame the board for the issue with the GB. I'm not wasting my time on showing you the figures - go do some research on attendances - NOT ST sales. I still say Celtic uis a buy - because i believe the J Park/Lennon axis will gwet us into the CL again next season and that players will be foung to replace Wanyama and hooper...who i imagine will go for £15-20m. Add that to the current finances and it is madness to have the club valued at aropunf the £60m mark....but - its all predicated on keeping the players onside.
I smell a rat with you. Outside the top 30 in Britain lol, show me the evidence. 42k ST sold, that's the bottom line. Bums are on seats for the big games, that's the norm. Reading your ramblings I assume you are in your in your late teens early 20's (or trolling on behalf of another cause). The core support has always been in 30k's, through the 70's, 80's and 90's. The 60k days were the exception, reserved for Euro nights, league deciders or games against Rangers (RIP). Next season ST sales may slide a little, 38-39k would be my guess and I'm entirely comfortable with that. Our signing policy is based on identifying promising young talent playing with smaller clubs then moving them on for a profit. Our continued presence in European football and our gateway to the EPL will always make us an attractive proposition for such players.
I'm sorry to say you are falling into the same trap as sevco. 1 - i specifically asked to address attendances. We know season tickets. I'm talking attendances...ergo atmosphere - a pleasant atmosphere to encourage players to satay. i agree ST sales. biuit I specifically addressed the other. Our attendances make it an unpleasant atmosphere for fans and players - in my opinion. Id rather 35k ST sales and 35k attendances than 40k sales and 20k attendances. i note you do not challenge the fact that celtics attendances have gone from top 5 to outside the top 30 in britain in 3 years. 2 - Again - i specifically stated attendances/bums on seats. there are many fans who think we are in fine fettle with 42k crowds. We dont - we have around 28k-30k. you know that your self as you'vre attended games last season. i blame the fans for that. I blame me , us, our fellow fans. We are not the old rangers - lets not lie to ourselves. And i note you are rattling on about how great we are. Get off that train - self praise no praise - we are not turning up. We are not as good as we were. to hell if we are better than others. since when did we measure ourselves by others? We are not turmning uop like we did only a couple of years ago. 3 - i believe you should be penalised. Leave your St with a supporters club or a friend in Glasgow, let uit be used for free - get that person to buy a pie and programme as a fee. God sake man - you are responsible for an empty seat. Leave it with a charity or a school or something - and let them use it. Let them maybe convert a youndg boy to the cause instead of letting it go to waste. 4 - In my opinion - the board are on the verge of splitting the fans,.. already , friends of mine have very mucgh split on the issue. 2 years ago - we were all honky dory on the GB/NL and the board. We were happy with the way the club was going. now - my friends an i are split on the GB. There is your proof. I belive the GB are 100% right and should be cherished by the board with regular meetings etc...my friend thinks that the board should shut them down and spread their tickets about. Thats proof enough for you i think. dont bury your head - celtic have deep fubndamental problems. To hell with sevco - we dont need them. But if we do not address our own issues - we will pay a si9gnificant price. We were here before in 2003...look what happened then. 4 -
Regarding finances - "attendances, bums on seats" is not neccessarily the key. Ask the club and they will tell you season tickets are guaranteed income - THAT is the key. On your wet winters evening example, which is better for the club? 30k in the stadium @ 30k's money or 30k in the stadium @ 40k's money? After all if the season book holders can't get along for what is in effect a game they have already paid for, why would they do so if it involves payment also? In answer to your points: 1) Celtic fans come from outwith Scotland and Ireland. Celtic are plenty well supported and there is no doubt about that - look at the global CSCs for example - I have had tghe pleaseure of drinking with the HK, Bangkik, SingTims, the CSC in Tokyo, in Luxembourg in Brussls and Paris. NY too - these guys are buying Celtic TV & merchandise - they are supporters of Celtic. 2) It's not lying - that's the tickets sold amnd that's what's reported to the taxman. That's standard in most sports. As a Celtic fan I do feel we are better than most clubs - so do UEFA, Juventus, Villareal and so many teams we play against. Gerrard, Giggs, God, even Shearer wanted to play Celtic for their testimonials because of our fans, not "the club". 3) I live in London, had a season ticket for the past few years why should I be penalised based on my travel issues with getting "less" than a local supporter who pays the same as I do? 4) Give me some proof regarding the board's "dangerous game" re Green Brigade and I'll consider it. Until then it's just smoke and mirrors (where ave we heard that before). Reading the interim financials from last month, Football and stadium operations - so season tickets and pies - are UP from £18,598,000 to £16,446,000 - that's up 13% to end December. Patently we weren't in the Champs League past Christmas previously tso that will be an additional benefit to the final figures and should offset some of the shortfall from "walk-ins" which are dependent on everything from weather to the economy to cup-runs. And sure, playing against Rangers has lost us a wee bit of revenue, but that's a small price for the consequent light being shone on their decade long tax evasion and misreporting of contractual statements to the governing bodies. I don't see the same "doom & gloom" regarding attendances you do - and equally I don't think CCP should enter into some sort of volume comparison with a club charging half the price of a season ticket compared to Celtic. That's a pointless exercise.
As an investor and fan of the club, i don't want to make the same mistakes that the old rangers and their fans did. Namely, live on the never never and hide their heads in the sand. My case is now proven that we have exceptionally poor attendances. Arguing this point with me is now futile. So - what to be done?. in my opinion - there is little to be done by the club, barr a few things - 10 match season tickets, half season tickets etc. The club have done their bit, given us a great team - made us one of the most profitable british clubs last year etc. Its the fans who have to look at themselves. Sevco, granted - lower prices, are attracting more and I believe that celtic attendances have dropped out of the top 30 in Britain. Now - I said attendances - bums on seats. thats the key. Selling 40k season tickets is scant comfort when Ledley et al look up at 30k crowds on a wet winters evening. so - this is the clubs greatest threat. My solutions 1 - The fans must look at themselves. If there is no 60k fans in scotland and ireland every 2nd week - then celticc is not a well endough "supported club". 2 - The plc stop lying about numbers and let the fans know that all must question this "greatest fans in the world" nonsense.Outwith the GB, Celtic fans are no better than the next club. The word "spoilt"comes to mind. 3 - The board come up with an incentive/stick approach to season tickets - say if a season ticket is used for 90% of the season, a voucher for a cash sum to be used in the Store is given to the holder. Or a cash back scheme is put in place. Basically, if you have a season ticket and don't use it - (you can always give it to a friend for a game) - you either get punished or dont benefit. 4 - The board and fans sort out their distrust issues. The board have played a v v dangerous game with the GB. It needs sorting. On this point i would lay the blame at the boards door. If celtic face up to these problems - things will be fine. If they don't - we will not progress any further.
Seems to be the buzzword for this season. What we can't lose sight of is Celtic have played around 45 competitive games this season so far. With finances as they are, people are choosing their games. The champions league this year has added £130 per person + travel costs to a season ticket holder. A lot more for a non holder. It costs me more than twice as much in petrol as it does for a ticket nowadays. It is people's prerogative to fund the club by buying a season ticket and not turn up for whatever reason. Few fans will miss a match because they can't be bothered. Tickets are too dear in this day and too many people are being priced out.
