Yes thank you I read it earlier but they would deny it wouldn’t they. We will see what happens next year if not before when there’s no choice.
Again good points but these companies aren't stupid and anyone boarding will surely be asked to sign agreements as part of the booking process to not hold the company liable. At the end of the day it's never going to be the companies "fault" so I can't imagine the legal battles being much of a... well... battle... I still believe with the correct precautions and pre-testing of all passengers and crew it could work, obviously you start adding port stops in to the mix and things can get out of their control so in that sense yes it's probably a year away before cruising proper (this assuming at least one of the promising vaccines works too).
Nomad1, I have it from a very reliable source. I also just googled it -
https://cruise.blog/2020/07/carnival-denies-rumors-it-will-sell-cunard-or-seabourn-cruise-lines
Well where did this rumour start are there any reliable sources to the story as I've not seen any? Not dismissing it, they need to raise funds to stay afloat and its perhaps a case of selling assets or taking on more debt so the 1st option might be best... however I can't find anything about it except on here?
I hope that’s not famous last words previous rumours became true. You dismiss it as Fake news but what makes you so sure?
ferg. The difference is, if you go to a gym and catch it, you are told to self isolate. If you catch it on a cruise, you will be isolated on the boat (we have seen how deadly that could be) or in some far flung facilites. Insurance won't pay for it. Gov has told you not to go because they are not interested to repatriate. Who will pick up the tab not to mention treat you? CCL? Cruiser? There is already a lawsuit going on with princess and if anyone dies because they went ahead to cruise, then what will the fallout be? One case on a cruise and the whole thing comes crashing down. If cruising starts, not doubt there will be people foolish enough to do it and companies foolish enough to run it but one case and it is bang! Big financial consequences.
Cunard and Seabourn are not being sold - that is definitely fake news.
You are right except IMO it would be at least 6 months to get enough people vaccinated and if they can start cruising by this time next year it will be a Miracle.
What do you think will happen to the SP if the rumours are true and they sell off Cunard and Seabourn
Whilst some of what you say is obviously true, it is no more dangerous than going to a gym, swimming pool, cinema, casino, pub, heck even your local supermarket for a pint of milk. All of the above things are happening or will be soon and I don't see the logic in singling cruising out as being so much worse. If the right precautions are taken including these new 90-minute tests before boarding, it should be as safe (or not) as anything else out there. By your own simple maths if no one on board has it you are in the safest place in the world out at sea away from everyone else!
Nomad, the Hurtigruten fiasco just shows how fraught these floating CV incubators are. You go on a cruise now you stand a big risk of being quarantined and also the extra expenses and hassles of going through the process. Simple maths states that with the rates still in our society, you go on a cruise with couple of thousand people, someone is bound to be onboard with CV.
There is no way out until there is a vaccine and at whatever price, there is no point in buying this until the timeframe is crystal clear. Until then, you are just gambling on something that is beyond your knowledge. I though I would take a punt at 600p but now my strategy would be wait for a definite vaccine breakthrough. Even when a vaccine is released, it will still be at least 3 months before sufficient people are vaccinated before cruising can be considered a safe activity. The SP could well be 300p or even wipeout by then. Wipeout doesn't necessarily mean company is destroyed, it could be that shareholders gets diluted to oblivion. Just wait and see. The upside is not worth the downside risks. This company has been permanently damaged and everyday goes by without income, the damage is added.
Quite right there are many viruses we have never found a vaccine for, and I wish people would realise this before they make predictions about the SP and a vaccine being ready in August or whatever. Personally I am going to stick to my guesstermate of £7 before I buy back in.
I don’t see any reason to rush back just yet as the infection rate is continuing to grow and countries are starting to lockdown again.
Let's see how the vaccine trials go all we can do after all! In theory once herd immunity has hit USA/South America, things can only start to get better right?
If this expert says there might never be a "silver bullet" what does the world do? Just get on with it as best it can and accept it as a new and unfortunate part of life perhaps? The world can't stay locked down forever so would love to hear his views on a future coping strategy.
WHO Director Dr. Tedros : There is no silver bullet for COVID-19 for the moment and there might never be
Cruising been my holiday of choice for past 25 years. I won't be back until its safe to do so.
I predicted 450p at the start of this and see no reason why that target won't be reached. Hopefully I'm wrong.
