Berni,
Bit of a Gareth Bale situation.
Do you keep a little used resource which WAS valued highly , but continues to cost £100k's per week with no benefit or value added to results.
Or move the player on to take the expenditure off the books and maybe get some of that value back to reinvest further?
A very rich Saudi who has been interested for a while !
But who would buy one of their brands now?
A brave person.
And even if you find that brave person / company, they will be demanding a rock bottom price.
Selling a brand is not necessarily bad news....reduces cash burn and generates significant funds if done correctly.
I think it would be well received by shareholders and would improve our credit rating and reduce debt.
Just putting it out there as a possible solution which must be being considered
I'm not sure on your knowledge of trying to claim against a cruise company look at the statistics you have more chance of winning the lottery ! More so the ships sailing "Aida & Costa" passengers lining up to get on a cruise. They will find a new normal its a given, people are just going to go about there business as usual, Me thinks you may need to invest elsewhere !
Yep, no polishing this one I'm afraid. As I said earlier, this is only going South.
Announcing cancellations has absolutely nothing to do with transparency, that's probably the lamest attempt I've seen at trying a positive spin on bad news. You cancel tons of cruises, you HAVE to inform everyone simple as.
Nothing is going to change with the cruise industry any time soon imo. The City Boys will keep reeling in the mug PIs on the pretext of the SP bouncing on any silly bit of news they can grasp at. Hints at a vaccines arriving, the odd ship braving the waters to see if they can make a successful voyage without any COVID problems etc etc. By and large however this situation will be with us right through 2021 imho and by then the cruise lines will have lost $billions more.
We are now about to enter yearly Flu season. People should not underestimate the chaos that this will bring. You will have millions of people coughing and spluttering and they won't know if it's Flu or COVID and there probably won't be enough testing done to be able to find out. Lots of people will self isolate thinking it might be Covid, the vulnerable will stay isolated throughout most likely, hospital beds will start filling up again with cases of Flu and Pneumonia, it will be chaos imo. Cruise lines have to react when someone presents with COVID like symptoms whether it's COVID or not. If they set sail during Flu season then it's just going to be endless bouts of people with colds or Flu and every time one presents they will be isolated in their cabins until they can get tested to see if it is COVID or not. I suspect we are in for a rough 6 months. Either way, the big issues that are showstoppers for many regular cruises still remain and have to be resolved before the majority of them will get back on-board.
I totally agree with TalkingSense here when he suspects that Carnival might well consider ditching one or more entire cruise lines in order to survive. Desperate times unfortunately and a vaccine is not going to fix it all imo.
"P&O to cancel all sailings until early 2021, again very transparent news flow from CCL, clear strategy in place and very good business acumen."
Takes some skill to put a positive shine on that news. They had no choice basically, as no one is going to let them dock and there is not a flight structure in place to get people to/from the ships.
Once you get over those hurdles you then need to find some brave passengers and get the lawyers warmed up for when a passengers contracts COVID on a cruise.
I think they are taking each step at a time, they know the brand is sold and the public want to get back cruising, the UK government will and rightly so with Covid numbers increasing extending the no sail order but If we say they don't sail until March/April 2021 this brings us to a year the ships have been laid up, also the cold lay up will be an issue so I would imagine a few will depart shortly for warmer seas where the sail order may not be in place. A company like CCL who have been in the business for a long while will certainly be able to recover from a years lay up. We have recently just had two cancellations from future cruises booked and with no effort we have had full refunds so this would also tell me unlike other companies I wont mention they are serious about the future. If CCL were in dire straits theirs no way we would have had refunds so quick. Yes I agree it will take time to settle but I'm not fearful at all about the 2021 scenario.
If non-cruising extend further in to 2021 I can see Carnival having to sell off one of their brands to survive.
That option has to be being played out in a Carnival office somewhere.
Cannot sustain the cash burn through the whole of 2021.
@berniethebiker, the 30% fall in value in IAG was due to a rights issue well below the market price (Eur 0.92). This article should help explain:
https://www.sharesmagazine.co.uk/news/shares/why-iag-shares-are-down-30-this-morning-and-why-you-shouldnt-be-concerned
P&O to cancel all sailings until early 2021, again very transparent news flow from CCL, clear strategy in place and very good business acumen. I think its safe to say CCL will easily survive with continued backing and a clear way forward. They have and will have further debts to clear but a company of this size would have priced all this in with the business model.
Not sure what would prompt a '60% rise in minutes', COVID waving a white flag perhaps?
I'm not 'invested' here, I'm short.
Seems to me to be one of the safest short positions you could own.
Some are long and have their feelings for being so. I prefer to be short and have my reasons. Each to their own.
We are all aware of the lows and highs of investing, 30% drop is nothing with a company such as CCL. We can see a 60% rise in minutes ! The constant drivel from a few De-Ramping is quite boring you have no effect whatsoever. If your that concerned and you are actually invested here sell up and move on. The transparency of CCL is to be welcomed however sour for some.
It was aimed at this weird and delusional message;
What De-Rampers need to do is go else where with your negative posts “fearful” “sulphur” Ive heard it all ! This will bounce back very well indeed CCL will and are consolidating like they should my god it’s a good job a few of you aren’t running any outfit !
Serious share holders hold this will bounce back ! You others Filtered !
Not sure in which world a 30% drop in share value is 'not a concern for investors', but hey.....
BernieBiker, I’m not sure who that last post was aimed at. I have chosen to invest, I am not in a loss, I am not burying my head in the sand- I could, if I wanted to, exit at a profit now. I have chosen instead to hold for the longer term. By the way, the 30% drop in IAG was due to the rights issue, not a cause for concern for investors.
Chinch, what is happening is that cruise companies can't hold on any longer. They have to try and forge a path. If they don't, they will go bust. They will hope that they can navigate their way through unscathed but as you say, chances are slim.
As Mr. Magic has pointed out correctly, it needs to be downgraded. I believe it will be over time but that is 18 months away is my guess. CCL can't last that long in its current form. It will have to restructure and that will mean shareholder wipeout. Airlines are in very bad but yet much better shape because they are get on get off and people will travel for all sorts of reasons.
Ah the classic, 'I can't bear to hear any bad news about the stock I'm invested in, so I'm just going to bury my head in the sand and hope you all go away'......
You only have to look at AIG (which fell 30% yesterday) to see the writing on the wall.
And at least you can get off a plane when it lands......
We’ll see....

Some very good posts on here but am completely fearful for CCL. This will make headline news if or when one person with COVID is onboard. Cant believe they are starting cruising just as there is a second spike around most of Europe. Says to me they are desperate for cash or they go bust as the current figures are not sustainable in the long term.
Whatever anyone does with this share, all the very best but I wont be investing anytime soon. This just reminds me of the airlines RR, EJET etc. and look how they are suffering.
