Fleccy,
This is embarrassing we must have been typing at the same time. is it a case of great minds thinking alike
Lamtree,
I don't think we should worry as Fleccy keeps on shouting "DONT PANIC!!! DONT PANIC!!!"
I do think that Capt Mainwaring is advising Toff not to listen to us "stupid boys" as were uneducated extremists.
"BT dont like it up em."
Don't panic, don't panic Mr Mannering

"I am a German spy working for Deutsche Bank"
Thanks for clarifying that, I just thought it's because you're an idiot. Shows why I shouldn't make snap judgements.
To late Fritz . AVRO no longer make bombers, but when they did they worked very well. Your cover is blown !!!!!
OK its time to tell the truth.
I am a German spy working for Deutsche Bank and Deutsche Telekom.
My mission is to drive down the price of BT in every way possible.
My controllers in German intelligence are very impressed with my achievements.
"My thoughts exactly. What Avro has forgotten to tell us, is that he’s trading from a “Demo” account"
Indeed, but demo accounts allow you trade in more than one stock, why the fixation on BT?
Fleccy
“The amount of posts you make and their content don't tie in with someone who has only £3000 invested in BT and £350,000 elsewhere.”
My thoughts exactly. What Avro has forgotten to tell us, is that he’s trading from a “Demo” account
Toff
"Well I am learning the hard way that it obviously go a lot lot lower."
Avrohom, you state that you have £350,000 invested and have just invested less than 1% of that sum in BT and then regularly post how you wish you hadn't and airing your disappointment at the drop, in an almost fatalistic way.
The amount of posts you make and their content don't tie in with someone who has only £3000 invested in BT and £350,000 elsewhere.
I'm seriously beginning to think that you're some sort of fantasist that talks the game, but has no skin in it.
In the last 30 days you've made 36 posts, all in BT and in no other chat page on here. Considering you claim that you've only just invested 3 grand at 174p, you have to admit that something doesn't add up.
So what's your real game?
Lamtree,
I had been watching BT since the beginning of the year!!!!!! I saw it going down every single day and said to myself at this price "its a real bargain" "it cant go any lower".
Well I am learning the hard way that it obviously go a lot lot lower. I now very much look forward to weekends and Bank Holidays ( those are the days when BT does not go down)
Lamtree,
On reflection I should have rather placed my money on Belgium winning the Euro2020 or Malta the world cup in 2022.
Instaigram,
One of the pluses of owning BT is that you really start to appreciate Saturdays and Sundays and Bank Holidays!!!!
Very sadly buying BT at the days low is not an achievement. Since the beginning of the year BT has been going down every single day. In the last 5 years if by a fluke they have ever did go up. You could be assured that a few days later it would go down to even a lower level then it was before.
Lamtree "You would have been better buying a house and renting it out,,I know we've been down that route,,but come on.your money could be making you money."
Buying a BTL is usually a good long-term investment, but it is involves a bit more "hands-on" involvement than purchasing shares in a company. In 2008 I bought a bank repo flat in London to let out. Once we got the keys it had to be fully decorated and prepared for a new tenant. This involved finding a painter, buying a dishwasher etc and arranging to advertise the place to find a suitable tenant. The initial gross yield was around 6.5% but mortgage and maintenance payments bring the net yield to under half of that. The big advantage of BTL is leveraging your money - I put down a £50K deposit and borrowed £120K from the bank at their base rate +0.69%. The initial mortgage payments were expensive, but the BoE base rate soon hit 0.5% making the interest rate on the borrowing well under 2% for the last decade. Rents haven't increased that much since 2008 - initially £875PCM and now £1222PCM. I ask lower than average rents to encourage tenants to stay long-term and the 1st tenant stayed over 8 years (gave me warning that he was planning to retire and move to France). 2nd tenant has signed his 3rd 12 month AST and initially told me he planned to stay there "for about 5 years". Interestingly when the London house prices were flying a few years ago, the value of the flat was increasing each month by more than the rent received! At the peak a few years ago it was worth around £320K but now it has dropped way below £300K again. I found the initial tenant myself and dealt with any problems that came up as I was living about 55 miles from it. Looking after the place is more difficult now when I live 6000 miles from it, so I use a managing agent to deal with any problems. I still met the 2nd tenant in person and showed him round the flat, because as I was back in the UK to celebrate my parent's 50th wedding anniversary. It also turned into a working holiday and I only had about 10 days to arrange for the flat to be repainted and the tiles re-grouted.
Lamtree,
Nah however badly I think of BT .. I still have to admit there is slightly more chance of BT reaching 250 then Belgium winning the EURO 2020. Though I was going to ask Fleccy if he had backed Cyprus.
CRASS adjective
without refinement, delicacy, or sensitivity; gross; obtuse; stupid: crass commercialism; a crass misrepresentation of the facts. Archaic. thick; coarse.
definition of. Demonstrated perfectly.
Toff,
I am sorry that I have upset you.
I actually have about £350000 invested in various stocks therefore a £3000 investment is no more then a flutter.
Most people on here know that I have very little confidence in BT and been continuously bad mouthing BT over many years. The point I was trying to make that at this level I thought they are worth a flutter. I personally think that they will go even lower but still think they are a good gamble and I am thank god in a position that can afford the risk.
Avrohom,
I think you'll do well with that purchase, you managed to buy at the days low which is no mean feat. The decline is sure to ease pretty soon.
Village idiot - errr no
Lamtree
”Don't even know why you posted that Toff, the regular posters here are always sharing their thoughts and dealings etc etc.“
Because it’s boring and irrelevant and meaningless and a hundred other derogatory adjectives.
To say you’re in BT would be sufficient. Why bore the board with the details. Anything that’s not constructive, such as wild share price guesses for the future and worthless opinions based on raw emotion isn’t going to help anyone.
Blind leading the blind - and usually to somewhere they don’t won’t to go. i mean ask yourself this
Do you want to come on this board and get dragged into the quagmire by following someone’s losing trade or do you want informed opinions?
Does Avro’s trade at 174.5 mean BT is a buy?
I’m all for informative posts, based of facts, developments are real news.
Toff
Toff - I know where you’re coming from, talk / bragging about numbers is crass & unnecessary.
Toff,
You may not care to read about Avrocom's trade but other might.
You say "I don’t know what it is about posters who feel an obligation to tell the world about their trades? ...The words novice, greenhorn, provincial jump to mind. "
I say, I don't know whether Avrocom is a novice but I do know that you are rude.
Avrocom
I don’t know what it is about posters who feel an obligation to tell the world about their trades?
Does anyone care about your BT trade and all the numerical details, except for you?
Let me school you here - it reeks of inexperience when you run to a board and post your latest trade immediately after execution.
The words novice, greenhorn, provincial jump to mind.
What you’re really looking for is validation from other novices, and a slap on the back - “well done”
That’s herd animal behavior - but humans are a herd species.
Don’t let my criticism worry you, these boards are full of people like you. But if you ever want to develop any credibility and trading acumen, I suggest you drop the hysteria.
I mean...
Could you imagine Gordon Gekko posting a £3000 trade on BT?

"You would have been better buying a house and renting it out,,I know we've been down that route,,but come on.your money could be making you money."
iamtree, your statement makes the assumption that my shares will show a paper loss forever, irrespective of whether I decide to reinvest, or take income. What you don't seem to understand is that, is that in 5 years, the accumulated dividend income will be around 50 to 60 grand, in 10 years it will be over 120 grand and my paper loss becomes insignificant. It's also likely that the shares will recover in the next 10 years anyway, so I'll make money from compounding on dividends and reinvestment anyway. I don't understand why you don't get it, it's basic stuff.
Blimey Fleccy how times change...to think a decade a ago you got have got your £12k from the bank just by leaving your cash there....and now you have to be a boat out in the ocean of shares fighting to find a fish....with no guarantee of getting back to shore again ( your money back)
Crazy world.....but there are plenty of people doing the same as you....good luck
"My order has gone through at 174.4 and I am already regretting it. Looking at the good side it will probably help me reduce my capital gains."
Good luck, assuming you really are doing as well as you make out.
My situation's changed, i'm now showing a paper loss across all my investments and probably showing a paper loss of around £40 Grand, compared to less than £30 Grand a month, or two, ago. Am I bothered, not really i'm used to it now lol. I've lined up another £40 grand, for me and my wife's ISA's in April and I'll just keep topping up. In the meantime we're pulling in over 10 to £12 grand a year in dividends. So that £40 grand paper loss is insignificant on a long hold basis and since we're reinvesting the dividends our averages are coming down as we are accumulating shares faster due to the low valuations. I think we can all agree that the likes of Vod, Lloy and BT wont go bust, so my invested capital also has long term safety.
