"Time to buy Wetherspoons shares as that is where most of this Tax is heading."
Too late, now the news is out they have just gone up 5%.
Guess they have accounted for the cash in the tills already :)
Daytrader

Be as well to as seems the only way you gat anything nowadays .
As for tax rebate the harder you work the more they take off you .
Sometimes I wonder if it is worth it working hard .
You go into a home and you have to sell your house you worked hard for to pay for it.
Meanwhile the person in next bed ****ed it all up against a wall ,and low and behold he getting the majority paid for them .
Who is the dafty "
Cant disgree with that at all, this country is in a pi55 poor state, far too many people with their hands out on the take. Getting Harder to be proud of being a worker these days unfortunately.
Aff, thats the trouble in the UK, nobody does any forward thinking or planning.
Its not what you earn but what you spend that matters.
Good luck with the plans
"If oil keeps rising to 120 and beyond I think it's more likely to hit 140-48 before a retrace"
But as we all know after the last couple of months anything is possible.....never mind all the ****e from the last 2 years
If oil keeps rising to 120 and beyond I think it's more likely to hit 140-48 before a retrace.
I sold at £4.32 this morning thinking it might take a dip.........you win some you lose some, but pretty certain tomorrow or next mon/tue/wed it'll drop so i can take a bit of profit

How many of you will be laughing when your dividends are been pay to them instead of you?
Moniman.....add to that "I have a hacking cough because I only smoke 20 fags a day and have trouble walking back from the pub some nights".
Aff, don't bother with the insulation, just go down the social security office and say you're broke...tell them you can't afford your heating bills, you can only afford a take out meal six days a week, you need a new IPhone, an upgrade to your Sky and Netflix. You could also point out that your 10 stone overweight and are being forced to go down the foodbank to stock up on crisps and pies...I'm sure they'll give you some money and a tax rebate...
Day
Will do .She is just annoyed that she is trying to get advice and they don’t seem bothered.
If they pushed for it years ago ,a lot of people would not be in fuel poverty .
Aff, make sure she gets it done, it makes a huge difference.
Bought my place 12 years ago, thermal boarded all the external walls on the inside face as part of full renovation. Makes an absolutley amazing difference to the bill. House is 15m x 9m and all open plan, hits 20'c plus throughout with just a single 2kw heater on!.
Well worth the cost n hassle.
Not long got house and had to re-roof it and double glaze it . Cannot do everything at once .
And very sensible saved up for it and did not go on the never never
Not good for the big oil companies and sitting on the sidelines for a bit. Surprised the announcement wasn't as impactive as it will be a big hit to profits moving forward.
Most people have their heating on too high and for too long, why don't they put some warm clothes on like me and the misses do..Also I see on the news about all the people going down to the food banks cause they're starving, all of the ones I've seen are obese, smoking and on their new I phones...this country is full of work shy scroungers and the Windfall Tax won't change a thing..
At least that well fed blatherer from the Isle of Skye will be trotting off to the Loch Bay Michelin Rosette restaurant.
Indy, how dare you insinuate that people wont spend their energy benefit payment on stuff which isn't energy. They will surely credit it to their energy providers' balance, or pop it on a top up card, as soon as they get it.......
I blew the £150 the other month, rather than giving it to Octopus to hang onto for 6 months, adding to my already green balance that we've been topping up since January to prep for the Autumn and Winter energy onslaught, which anybody with any sense saw coming months ago. I didn't want the £200 loan and don't particularly want the £400 bung, as much as it's tokenly welcomed after Sunak absolutely mugged my household during furlough.
It's stupid. Such benefits, which is what it is, should be means tested and go to only the people who really need it, and should 100% be added to their energy account, not given in cash to spend on stuff that isn't energy bills........ but then Rishi needs to keep as many people sweet as he can to minimise the backlash. Politics......
25% of not much, with refunds based on green investment. It will cost us a few hundred million quid.
Pennies as we said weeks ago. We should have volunteered to pay it earlier. But then is that what what Bernie was saying when he made what sounded like gaffes at the time;
- A windfall tax wont change our investments in the UK
- A we have more money than we know what to do with
- We are a cash machine
- etc
Was he saying; bring it on. We will pay it quite happily. No, it was probably just inconsiderate gaffes to be fair.
All eyes on 450p SP/$130 crude/$10 gas now in Summer.
So, how much tax will we eventually pay ?
Answer, 25% of not a lot. It certainly doesn't seem to have spooked the share price. I think the government have their pound of flesh. Let's move on ....
Peak previous losses can't offset windfall, so rosneft has no impact. Go figure. Crazy
You are right - just like the winter fuel payment, totally untargeted to get to those most in need. Is that too difficult in these days of total data awareness of individuals? The Rosneft hit was the right move, but will hit profits and probably mean zero windfalls from BP.
