Noted that you knew what was up they other day James, any concrete news you want share , Yankee candles excluded.
@jamescosta , i know you only 6 posts in my friend but who you directing this at , most on here are heavily invested.
You talk a lot about a share you’re not invested in. Why bother ?
Imho boohoo have bought 2/3 years of goodwill on the Debenhams brand /website , their success i believe will be down to quality of website navigation and quality of the "premium brands" . The Simon outlet malls in the states are all generic 90% of the shops are the same all got a Ralph Lauren all got a Coach .RL make some real tat clothing not fit for lidls Coach don't its all quality ( you can still get an all leather man bag for £30 ;-) I don't bother going in RL because I the quality is questionable it won't stop me going to the market /outlet
The point I'm trying to make is I don't think boohoo can get away with reducing the quality of the premium brands
Same factory different labels will be found out and your lose the older person who isn't looking for 70% off . Secondly the website has got to be top notch i, I won't buy camper shoes online anymore because as soon as I press the back button it takes me to the fking start of the website.
I'm sure Boohoo management will know what to do best......those senior figures who are shopping at Paul Smith and co....wouldn't want to scroll through 1000 Boohooman items to get what they want. Neither would I!
...and Volvo parts were used too dan.
Obviously we're looking at the virtual here (and that's the way I source my cars nowadays, online lease - and the odd occasion I visit a main dealer, I usually find it a hassle finding an empty parking space, the sites always seem rammed, perhaps too much unsold stock?, so not sure there would be great benefit of scale in two brands occupying one premise even if they wanted to, it would need to be more or less double the size with twice the staff). 'IT' isn't my forte and it would be critical for a search on Debenhams to not throw up a rag bag of items such as a 'mature' summer dress from a legacy brand next to a PLT item etc but that's where I'm assuming management will be aware of this and have the skilled staff to build a platform that has economies of scale but a degree of sophistication to keep the brands separate.
Going back to cars, the Skoda brand has changed out of all recognition since VW bought it, I'm sure most Audi drivers are aware of the common ownership and the key point is that Skoda is not toxic nowadays, it's just a different choice and price point. Hopefully Debenhams brand itself can be given a similar revival, so with sensible online segregation between different markets I would hope it shouldn't be terminal even if some of the boo, nasty gal and PLT market realise there is common ownership with Debenhams.
@Aim and I think that's kind of why clothes are different to cars as it's not just borrowing parts its image. I get the golf point and an R vs an estate (one is cool and the other isn't) but i'd think again that doesn't play for clothes. Jumpers a jumper and if your mum is wearing it you'll likely stop. Just on the car point didn't Aston Martin used to have old bits of Ford in them? ha
Look not trying to make an issue here but we all know the ratner block story (was way before my time but heard it a bunch) that brand can go overnight. I'm just nervous here as we'd be gambling two brands worth billions to make a success of something that cost £55m
I'd happily leave the billion $ brands alone and then the market place hold the other brands and extra third party items get up to a fair wack and then be worth a bill on it's own
I hear what your saying, not disagreeing. Absolutely correct that you won't find Audi and Skoda in the same showroom, that's part of my point about VW doing it correctly. One thing I'll say is, having ran all three, is there are a noticeable number of parts on a Skoda stamped with 'four rings' but I've never seen the reverse on an Audi.
A separate issue is oldies latching onto trends brands, Jeremy Clarkson (and me) wearing Levi 501s - I recall they revamped them to such a degree that I stopped buying, which is what they wanted I think! I don't think VW had over 60s in mind for the image of the Golf 'R', I have an estate as a daily driver but if all the oldies started running them, the target market would probably go for something else.
@AIM but that's only when you pull back the covers and parts of the engin which the average joe or Julie won't
What you won't see in your example is Audi and Skoda cars in the same garage. Likely own garages and different ends of town
Operationally and cost wise that makes no sense at all. Put both in same lot (save rent) and train salesmen to sell both (save salary costs) but would audi put Skoda cars on its lot?
Well there's my point you see. My point here is not the manufacturing its the "being seen with"
You see it time and time. Superdry was a good example people quote on here. Was "cool" (not my thing) but then Dads start wearing it and the view here is it's for the bin. Or there's a decent bar in town and then an older crowd drift in and then its the place people "used to go"
My point here is with something which is 100% trend led like PLT we need to be careful about how much that pops up next to a "lovely blouse"
danl90, I think we should give management some credit for having the nous to integrate Debenhams with the existing 'young' brands without making a pig's ear of it.
When you look at the car Industry, it's not exactly a secret that not only are Audi and Skoda both owned by VW, but each have models using Golf platforms, Golf engines, etc. You would think that would be highly detrimental to Audi at the top but they seem to be doing fine against more delineated brands such as BMW.
It obviously needs skill and if it's done carelessly it will obviously have an impact.
Boohoo and PLT have their own strong, well-known websites, they don't need Debenhams website to sell. I'm looking forward to other things that I can buy from the "new" Debenhams though...after all, me and my generation are spending about 50 times more on clothes than the average Boohoo shopper. And I didn't even count the cosmetics! Ignore us at your peril ;-)
Yeah fully agree and looking like flannels would be great. I just get nervous as the PLT brand for example is so different to say oasis
It’s so easy to be uncool fast and there’s more to lose than be gained
Just my view but hopefully they really think it through
I’d just keep separate and give free access to make up. It’s what we are after anyway so why not have the upside without the risk?
Reiterating...
Now is a great opportunity to buy.
50p swings, as seen in the candlestick charts now suggest a bullish up cycle.
Danl90 , store within a store, make up along side Boo Hoo and PLT would work for me, someone going on to makeup pages say Mac or Bobby Brown (my make up knowledge is low) gets distracted by and influencer on the page wearing PLT make up and PLT Clothes, classic cross fertilization without dragging PLT brand through the aisles (pages) of Maine or Mantaray.
I think management are more than aware and i can't see Umar K not voicing a very strong opinion as to the product placement within the pages and what the site portrays across all Brands. BH being BH i'm sure will launch this in a premium manner , using something like the Flannels landing page is great place to start tick is going to be keeping not alienating existing but inspiring. Investment in Debs pages was pretty much zero, if the landing page doesn't tick all the boxes then i've been wrong about the management teams all the way along but jury def out till re launch
@expo they said debs is a "marketplace, which will be the first time in our history where you can shop all brands from a single site"
That's what makes it a marketplace. Theres an investor video on website which is worth a watch
I doubt they would do this. Can you buy PLT through the oasis website?
Debenhams will become another brand, for clothes, homewares, cosmetics etc, but run with boohoo’s infrastructure and efficiency. The average joe will have no idea that it is linked to boohoo.
@keep good article and thanks for sharing. I do think the articles misses the point that debenhams brand would be damaging for both boo and PLT as even if consumers don't know the common ownership seeing boo and PLT on debenhams especially next to old granny clothes will kill the golden goose
I really hope that the only brands that go on there from boo are coast, warehouse and oasis (KM might do a smaller range on there but leave the "premium" shopping outside?) I think then the core brands should then link via the premium delivery model ie if you pay your £10 for boo next delivery this also works for debs make up which would be fine as boo said will all come from warehouse
It is so easy to kill brand equity and putting boo and plt on there for me would be a sell
But this deal on make up alone will be really accretive I'm excited for it to get started. So long as it doesn't come at the cost of killing the golden goose
@rag - £4 - soon, we hope and pray! ha
"The ascent of Boohoo continues"
Well in wish the ******* share would take note , get some crampons on and start making it's way up the side of that triangle FFS.
Some great stuff on here today which is all very well but i need an exact date as to when this will hit £4.00 so can someone please advise.
New Prediction:
Next week will be a bullish week.
It’s time to load up, according to candlestick patterns...
50p swings is coming to an end. Bull activity will take place either tomorrow or early next week, as long as no negative press happens.
You are just CRINGE. Do yourself a favour and diversify your £1 Million one stock position. Its ridiculous you would carry so much risk.
Keepcalmcarryon - love this bit from your link:-
Every which way you look at the Debenhams acquisition, it looks good. A great price. A great opportunity to diversify. And a perfect synergy between the old and new world of retailing. The ascent of Boohoo continues.
Yeah probably because you reported it you little Tell-Tale-Tit!!! lol
Happy to send you a copy of the article.
Like I said just trying to help, but if you only want oneside of the debate then you are doomed anyway.
