No mention of battery back up but getting in with Barrack Gold on some of their upcoming projects would be a great start...I'm sure Fortune won't miss any tricks...
Bella - that is an interesting find. As far as I am aware from the presentations of Dr Peter Fischer at a number of the Vanitec Energy Storage Committee meetings Copper has up to this point been considered as a problematic impurity when found inside the electrolyte of a VRFB. ( see https://www.thebushveldperspective.com/blog/public-articles-1/post/vanitec-3rd-energy-storage-meeting-part-2-174 )
Now it could be that copper in solution in the electrolyte deposits itself in places where you don't want it but that copper nanoparticles already in position 'decorating' the carbon felt electrodes may already be where it is most useful. The question that naturally arises is 'why don't the nanoparticles dissolve into the acidic solution and then redeposit elsewhere, and perhaps where you least want them (eg shorting out parts of the battery.)
It may be that the nanoparticles benefit from some kind of mesoscopic surface effect or surface preparation which prevents them from dissolving in the electrolyte solution. I will read that paper some time. However the amounts of copper are really rather low and would be a drop in the worldwide ocean of Copper production (currently some 200x the amount of Vanadium)
Kudos to you Bella. Great find.
Is this why Fortune is talking battery in relation to copper mining?

BB I'm pretty sure with the high combined percentage holdings that have been mentioned this weekend by LTHs with high personal shareholdings, that a lowball takeover attempt wouldn't cut any ice with the collective ambition and wisdom of the PIs certainly on this board.
@VV,
Sorry if I misinterpreted your post. BMN is such an amazing company, with such huge potential, a takeover at less than fair value is the most serious threat IMHO. Now if BMN were able to provide battery storage to Acacia’s operations, that would be a tremendous boost to our journey and share price. Agreed, Mark could be a useful friend to have in a very high place!
@BB
I wasn't really thinking takeover. More as in my email that as a South African, here is a South African mining business that could be supported to become a major worldwide company and help the planet move away from fossil fuels. The very same company could be amazing at helping Barrick become more energy secure and efficient at its mine sites while lowering it's carbon footprint. Mark Bristow is a well known and respected figure, especially across African mining (in the DRC and Tanzania for example where he has negotiated solutions to issues at governmental level). He could be very helpful to BMN, but also BMN to Barrick.
@VV. large war chest is all well and good but do we want to encourage a takeover at our ludicrous valuation?. Now if acacia offered £1 a share how many takers would there be?
Class lyrics jogj99!
If only I was a Macc lad. How straight forward life would be.
I'm still wondering about whether Mark Bristow and Fortune may chat about how they could help each other..
Barrick have a huge war chest after recent mine disposals..
VauxhallViva your name reminded me of these lyrics.......
Cleaned my teeth, put on my best clobber
Tonight's the night I'm going to knob her
Vauxhall Viva's covered in rust
But you can't shag a bird on a 29 bus
Beer and sex and chips and gravy, its all a Macc Lad wants
Beer and sex and chips and gravy, and a tasty bit of clump
Get up off the floor, finish your chips, we're going to sup some more
Pulled the bird down the Fox & Grapes
Game of darts and a lot of beer
'Can you hold your liquor love?’
Thanks Alfa.. Our posts crossed. Interedting read.
VV.. Many thanks for sharing... Xx
Bella as you probably know Mark Bristow (Barrick CEO) is a proud South African. He has major successes on his CV in particular the development of Randgold which he eventually negotiated in to a major merger with Barrick.
I have formerly been a Randgold and Acacia holder (which Barrick bought back last year) and still hold Barrick .
Last year I wrote to Mark Bristow and he actually called me in Rome to discuss my opposition to the Acacia takeover plan. We emailed a couple of times following that call and eventually I am pleased to say that the eventual settlement price was very close to that which I and others on the Acacia LSE had argued was fair.
Anyhow this is all a preamble to the email that I've copied below that I sent to Mr Bristow in August. I wonder if he remembers it when he meets with FM?

Subject: Acacia thankyou
Dear Mr Bristow (Mark)
Many thanks again for taking to the time to speak to me regarding Acacia (If you recall I was in Rome and we had a poor phone connection).
Just to say that I am pleased with the outcome and comfortable holding additional ABX shares at the transfer level negotiated (which in GBP in not now far from the £2.50 that I initially voiced on my email (it being your book value from 2018 accounts).
Unrelated, I'd like to make you aware (if you are not already) of the amazing work that Bushveld Minerals is doing in South Africa.
If there is any way that Barrick or other key players can support Bushveld Energy in raising awareness and bringing to market more speedily large scale Vanadium Flow Batteries for grid storage and empowering 'off grid' communities across Africa then that would be amazing.
(The world needs grid storage to hold environmentally friendly solar and wind power for peak periods. Tesla are trying to move in to this field but lithium batteries are the wrong technology for that purpose (Vanadium batteries can be very large scale, dont degrade, have a working life of over 25 years - the Chinese are currently building a 800MWh one!).
Hope that you don't mind me bringing that to you and feel free to disregard.
Once again thank you for your work with Acacia and I look forward to the future with Barrick in this pro gold environment that central banks are creating.
Best Regards
Nigel
Alfa... Interesting Fortune is speaking alongside Barrick Gold..
Guess we will just have to wait and see.
It would be nice if we could turn up some JORC results on the various sites we own...
Bella if you consult the Mokopane PFS you will see that there is no mention of any copper in the drill results.
http://www.bushveldminerals.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/08/201602040458050.pdf
Located in the Limpopo, Mpumalanga, North-West and Gauteng provinces of South Africa, the complex hosts the majority of global platinum-group element, chromium, and vanadium resources, in addition to major deposits of copper, nickel, gold, tin, iron, fluorite, and dimension stone.
https://www.esi-africa.com/industry-sectors/research-and-development/geologists-to-conduct-scientific-drilling-in-the-bushveld-complex/
Bella - usually copper is found alongside Zinc and maybe gold. The Platinum and Platinum group metals like Palladium and Rhodium tend to go together.
Interestingly Ivanplats mine is just next door to Mokopane town about 30km from our Mokopane project sites. Our sites are almost next door to Anglo American Platinum's mine at Mogalakwena so maybe our application was originally made with the possibility of platinum and anything else that one might think of, on the off chance.
Alfa... I have no idea how the application process works. Is it up to the applicant to request licence for list of items they want to extract or do the authorities put the list together.
Surely it's down to the applicant based on drilling results isn't it?
Could copper be found alongside vanadium and perhaps extracted by default...as vanadium is extracted some copper is dug up too...
'Bushveld venture wins mining right for Mokopane vanadium project
2019-10-22 08:48:00
The approval allows it to extract vanadium, but also titanium, phosphate, platinum group metals, gold, cobalt, copper, nickel and chrome throughout the project area,..'
That's Robert Friedlands outfit, when gambit and I met him in London a couple of years ago he was most enthusiastic about their copper and cobalt deposits in the DRC. I would probably have sat bolt upright if he had mentioned copper in SA. I would guess that it is the platinum that they want there, but I will have to do a bit more digging, so to speak.
looks like Ivanplats are building the copper mine.
https://www.globalafricanetwork.com/2018/02/28/company-news/ivanplats-brings-a-new-dawn-to-mokopane/
... this is quite a revealing map:- https://www.univie.ac.at/Mineralogie/gif/Bushveld_Complex.gif
Bella I know of no copper mine in the Bushveld complex. The only Copper mine I can find in South Africa is at Palabora, near the Kruger Park, which is some way outside of the Bushveld complex and indeed is part of its own complex called the Palabora complex.
I was referring to the 121 mining conference
COPPER???
Now why is Fortune speaking on a topic re Mining Copper for Batteries....???
Another income stream perhaps...?? Check out what our Mokopane Licence includes.
Now I could be barking up the wrong tree here but our guys are prone to pulling of the odd surprise and he's speaking alongside top chappie from Barrick Gold.
Offtake deal perhaps...one to keep our eyes on I think and if the trolls hit rest assured there may well be something in this.
'The mining right allows for the extraction of several other minerals from the project resource area, including titanium, phosphate, platinum group metals, gold, cobalt, copper, nickel and chrome.'
https://www.spglobal.com/marketintelligence/en/news-insights/trending/2a5kene2bfniceij0y9dvg2
Barrick Gold is looking for opportunities to grow its copper business through either exploration or acquisitions, according to its chief executive Mark Bristow.
Copper is viewed as having the best fundamentals of any commodity, with demand tipped to rise over the medium term as the world shifts to cleaner energy just as supply is pressured by falling grades at ageing mines.
As a result, most of the world’s big mining companies are trying to find ways to increase their exposure to the metal.
