(Bloomberg) — The City of Cape Town’s attempt to secure South African municipalities the legal right to select their electricity suppliers has been set back by a court ruling that it must first exhaust negotiations with the government on the matter.
The city currently has to buy all its electricity from national utility Eskom Holdings SOC Ltd., which generates most of its output from coal and is struggling to keep pace with demand. A lawsuit aimed at enabling it to tap more renewable energy from independent producers was initially filed in the High Court in 2017 and was heard in May.
“Essentially the judge didn’t deal with the substantive constitutional decision. It does mean more delays,” said Nicole Loser, a lawyer with the Centre for Environmental Rights, which presented evidence to back up the city’s case. “It’s a procedural judgment.”
Had it won the case, the city of four million people had planned to set up its own power-purchasing office, which would secure supplies within six years. That would have paved the way for other municipalities to follow suit and eroded revenue for Eskom, which is already failing to generate enough revenue to cover its costs and is reliant on government bailouts to continue operating.
with your name I'd expect nothing less
And I think I need a Learjet.
amen to that @Reteps.
Wasted on the woke me me me entitled twats of today
Flew a beechcraft musketeer over the Boston Bay to Provincetown in the 80s... Landed next to the dc3 with the highest flying hours of any aircraft (was almost 100,000).... Lovely old lady.... Best almost flight was in the mid upper turret of Just Jane on a fast run as the UK & Canadian lancs flew over
I have very fond memories of flying a Piper Cub J3 over the Arcachon Basin in the early 80's - drifting gently backwards over the oyster beds in a 30kt headwind...
I flew the 750 Stol last year... Nice, but it's not like we have tine strips and sandbars in the uk... Cruzer is pretty stol anyway....
Very nice! Big deep wing, great for stooging around and enjoying the view.
This particular type is a Zenith Ch750 Cruzer @ reteps
faramog, what kit was that? A Pitts Special, I hope! I'd settle for a Walther Extra, though.
Well day 1 of 3 building an aircraft wing helping someone on a kit build.... A lot more fidley than Lego but a lot of fun.... By the time we got a quid I might have enough to.punt a build of the whole plane
For me, a modest 911 turbo, with all the extras.
For me it's a Nissan gtr and some beast of a 4x4 for when I move back to Thailand where the roads aren't the best, especially in the provinces.
Double off topic, think it might be a 42ft Interceptor custom sport fisher for me. Fingers crossed.
Aston for me although it’s a little way off with only a relatively small investment. ??
Which do you prefer Hovis or warburtons :-)
Glad to see there is some class on here swampdub :) MOPAR or no car for me although I might settle for a RHD Mustang. I hired a Challenger SRT last year and my god it was Hemi heaven (with my cowboy hat haha). I nearly cried when I had to give it back. In fact I was meant to be in the air to LA today on the way to pick up another Challenger for 2 weeks but the bloody Covid ruined it.
Not a chance in hell of me changing my wheels yet, until my Wife gets her dream kitchen lol
Forgot to say _ mine's an Alpine A110
Now, back to work all you lot !!
