What are people's views on the practicality of Limiting drug pricing. My feeling is that Hillary's comments are ill-considered. Simply, biotech is a risky, costly business with a limited patent protected time window. The price opportunity is the reward for the risk and to limit this could result in a slowing of drug development. This would be harmful and an implication politicians would need to think through very carefully. It's amazing what an apparent opportunistic comment from a political candidate can do!
According to analyst yes. Following is from Bloomberg -" The Nasdaq Biotech Index slid into a bear market on Friday amid its worst weekly decline in four years. The rout was sparked by a tweet last Monday from Democratic presidential hopeful Hillary Clinton suggesting there may be “price gouging” in the market for prescription drugs. The group had rallied 56 percent from an October low to an all-time high on July 20, and has since plunged 27 percent."
Is this because of Hilary Clintons comments or is there some other reason, all bio's seem to have fallen of a cliff today.
stockhouse /news/press-releases/2015/07/03/the-biotech-growth-trust-plc-net-asset-value-s : THE BIOTECH GROWTH TRUST PLC The estimated un-audited net asset value, calculated in accordance with the guidelines of the Association of Investment Companies, for The Biotech Growth Trust PLC at the close of business on 2 July 2015 was 854.01p (ex & cum income). The Company holds 6,311,088 shares in treasury. In line with the Company’s published policy any re-sale of treasury shares will only take place at a premium to the prevailing net asset value per share at the time of issue and therefore the shares held in treasury do not give rise to a potential dilution to net asset value per share. -- Biog still a hold IMHO
Thanks for the ride But I have now gone for out of favour JRS JP Morgan Russian AND BRWM blackrock world mining Fund with the money I have sold here, I think this is now over valued so I have gone for what I feel is the next undervalued exciting shares just like it was when I invested in here, again thanks to the manager of BIOG I'm sure one day I will invest a reasonable wedge in here again
it was a good ride while it lasted but the tide looks like it is turning, I will look for a re entry oneday in the future. Trusts like these can make you loads of money when the times are good but can turn very nasty on the downside so I have derisked for now.
biog or ibt?
Don't understand why in esters not communicating here????
Thanks TOFT - I'd missed that one. The featured analyst says: 'we believe the fund is the most attractive way to invest in the healthcare sector' which is a bit of a sine qua non considering BIOG's track record. However, the analyst fails to give an opinion on the prospects of the healthcare sector as an investment vehicle. DYOR as ever, I guess. Have a good Christmas, all.

wrong BB
Nearly 5 years of this pile of sh.te £52.000 now worth £9,200 82% down.
Quite so. The fund is managed entirely out of New York - I doubt whether they'll be casting anxious glances at this board to see what we think of them.
WELL PUT!
It seems to me that comment on bulletin boards is more often than not, ill-informed and this management seems to be doing a remarkable job without help from us.
I've been a holder for ~4 months & also surprised at the lack of comment. I think BIOG could use informed discussion. As a starter: The fund is heavily US concentrated. Why? Are there so few UK or other bios worth a candle?
Anybody there?
Or not :-( Time is whats needed when holding this at the moment, it will get back up, may take weeks may take months, may take....
seems to have settled a bit.

I was just thinking the opposite! It's hard not to panic and sell then regret it, Nasdaq is up and biotech sector is in the even....at the moment. I just bought some @ 424 in ISA. The thing about selling when they drop (you) is its hard to get back in if they go up, the thing about buying when they are falling (me) is it's hard to know how low they will go. Maybe I'm trying to catch a falling knife but if need be I will hold them long term, buying now at lats years price. Time will tell. Good luck to you what ever you do.
looking good. I have a few thousand quid in this so may dump in the morning.
