It all depends on what you mean by "force", doesn't it? And whose talking about force? It seemed to me from the recent Debate between the Minister and Lars Hjalmared (for the Interpellation Committee) that they both had pretty much the same view about what the best outcome would be in the matter being discussed. That was only a 'feeling' by the way...the sort of feeling that people have who have feelings and clever people these days call it emotional intelligence. Maybe that isn't a direct answer to what you've said...but I always think there's a lot more to what is said that what appears to be said...in between the lines so to speak. And I can talk whatever stupid rubbish I like, thank you very much, it's a free country. And you can reply with your usual insults if you wish, same as Ibjj does.
“And as for "There is no pro-mining counter party that has any power to bear to force him into that position."... you're wrong about that, all parties in the Rikstag are in favour of mines except the MP and they'll be lucky to get any seats in the next election if the current polls are anything to go by”
Wrong again. There is no counter party that can force him right now to give an exact date for this decision - which was the point being answered - not whether there were pro-mining counter parties. Do you have problem with comprehension? Reading problems? Visual impairment? Genuine question. You constantly fail to read what other people posted and then post a response to a point nobody every made.
Gambier, are you suggesting that politicians, even in Sweden, might dissemble, mislead even lie! Well I'll go to the foot of my stairs. Have a good weekend all. Its my party and I'll lie if I want to.
“in my view, Thor has already hoisted himself on his own petard by repeatedly espousing the virtues of Swedish mines. It is but a short additional step to put a date on the decision he has already committed to making?”
I don’t think a politician paints himself into a corner by making contradictory statements about the virtue of one thing or another. Quite the opposite, telling each group exactly what they want to hear in very superficial terms has always allowed politicians to paints themselves out of any corner.
And moving from making decisions whenever you please to a system of exact dates is a huge step for Swedish politicians involved in mining decisions. Why would you voluntarily apply that pressure to yourself when you are free to behave in a way that suits you?
They will give the decision when they feel like.
What exactly would you have agreed with, Ibjj...it's as clear as mud to me?
Gambier14,
I would have agreed with you had Baylan still been in position, but, in my view, Thor has already hoisted himself on his own petard by repeatedly espousing the virtues of Swedish mines. It is but a short additional step to put a date on the decision he has already committed to making?
Also the KU Committee which is cross party is quite clearly pro-mining and they have the power to question the Government's actions in any matter.
And as for "There is no pro-mining counter party that has any power to bear to force him into that position."... you're wrong about that, all parties in the Rikstag are in favour of mines except the MP and they'll be lucky to get any seats in the next election if the current polls are anything to go by.
That doesn't make much sense to me, Gambier. What do you mean by: "If they grant the concession, this same attitude will pervade all other decisions that will be required to get a mine into operation. " Surely you can't mean they can't grant the concession...because you wouldn't be sitting there waiting for it, would you.
“He needs to silence the Sami by stating he will make a decision on or by a specific date to quell all this uncertainty”
Why would he unnecessarily allow himself to be hoist by his own petard? There is no pro-mining counter party that has any power to bear to force him into that position. BEM will wait as long as they decide and if they don’t like it - tough. That is how the business of mining is done in Sweden. If they grant the concession, this same attitude will pervade all the other subsequent decisions that will be required to get a mine into operation.
Good morning Eric,
You are absolutely correct. Every time Thor speaks, it is the same mantra that he loves mines, Sweden needs more mines and they will be an integral part of the transformation to a green economy.
After 4 months in post however, he has fallen into the age old pattern of being played and colluding with those who oppose a mine at Kallak and will do anything to stop Thor making the decision.
He needs to silence the Sami by stating he will make a decision on or by a specific date to quell all this uncertainty.
In the absence of tangible progress, this shares volatility and traded volumes are governed exclusively by uncertainty and sentiment.
This has to stop now.
I hope you are right Aug. For us to lose over 20% of our market value at one point, in a single day, because of a potentially misinterpreted radio interview with the Minister for Business, Industry and Innovation, is absolutely unacceptable. In my opinion. I'm not sure why either, that K-P T can't announce an official date for the decision, via Government channels, ensuring both clarity and fairness for not only us, but all interested parties. That way also going some way towards preventing a random leak at any time. We could then be ready for a leak, knowing that it should be around if not on that official decision date. Lol. Anyway, today just gone, more damage and unnecessary roughness for BEM to endure. Not bleddy on! IMO.
Evening.. Takayama, Don’t worry, the Sami are not stupid, they know who has the muscle to butter their bread re many issues for years to come, and it isn’t the Green Party.. The consequences for not playing ball with the powers is, you don’t get to play again.. Everyone involved will have made/make compromise.. We all have to, each and every day.. Imo atb……
