1. Extra Capacity ?? Wind - Charge overnight on cheap rate Electric. - Feeds from other counties via Grid Connections. Like EDF do 9pm to 7am weekdays and All weekend Electric for EV Owners. France has grid connection to UK and most of electric is Nuclear - always producing
2. I live in London - Charge of 13 amp socket most of the time for 2.3kw per hour (3% )of 72kw Battery. Also London has lots of chargers see ZapMap. There are 30 7kw at my local council run Gym. Tesla Supercharger at Brent Cross, Westfield, Canary Wharf, Park Royal and dotted around M25. There lots of 50kw Rapid chargers within a few miles on the main roads. Lots of Supermarkets have 7kw chargers that are free.
3. Long distance - I went to Spain on Superchargers in July and came back on Superchargers in September clocked up 4,700 miles. No problem even charging on 5kw Supermercado charges and 2.3kw domestic plugs. Drove London to West Bromwich and back last weekend - got free 7kw charging at Hotel which easily took me back to 90%. Total cost for 270 miles round trip £6.50 to get back to 90% after returning - soon to be £4 when I switch to EDF EV Tariff.
Tesla has plans to significantly increase range and reduce costs within three years, the figures are in this YT link.

This is battery costs as well as car production, they plan to have a fully autonomous car for under $25,000 fitted with batteries with these performance improvements and cost reductions - built in Berlin.
Of course, cost savings are partly due to from Tesla mining and processing lithium and for their own cells but that's North America so what are their plans for other locations - is their claim they can produce from clays with the addition of sodium chloride and water proven with no real environmental issues.
Good for clay producers I hope!
In terms of the generation capacity, National Grid don't seem at all concerned about this - https://www.nationalgrid.com/stories/journey-to-net-zero/5-myths-about-electric-vehicles-busted.
Charging in cities needs sorting out and is more tricky, but I don't believe it can't be resolved within 10 years.
I have just bought a Renault Zoe which will comfortably do 170-180 miles even on motorways and more at slower speeds. With fast charging now, it is quite usable for long distances. Within 10 years, range and charging speed will improve significantly and I really don't think this will be an issue.
This ICE ban is poorly considered as no-one has completely solved 1) Where will the additional generation capacity come from 2) How will people in dense cities like London provide all cars a place to charge 3) Most electric cars are still not suited to intense distance driving requirement although I concede this may change soon..
