foz, tomcat
Can you or anyone clarify the position with the long stop date.
If the Mexican permission is not received before the long stop date can that be extended? Or should it be 14 days before that long stop date, which is obviously quite close?
Yes tomcat they can block it as a U.K. list company but chances of that are hugely slim. As much as I’d love this to be true, I do not believe they will. Even if proven wrong and they do then what? U.K. going to strike a deal with Mexico or support bcn? What’s gf going to do?
blocking the takeover means blocking the takeover… it’s not a private company based in mexico… it’s a uk public listed company based in the uk… having re domiciled from canada… we are in the latter stages of the takeover now… with the long stop date being 31st dec… and a minimum t-14day period required if the offer ever resumes… if they are going to intervene… we’ll find out pretty soon…
I agree that the (UK) Government will not intervene
Was thinking about the position of those holding BCN in SIPPs after my comment yesterday. If we have the >75%, <90% scenario, and the company is delisted, you can hold unlisted shares in a SIPP although its questionable that you would want to. You may have to find a new provided though as their own internal rules may prohibit such investments. ISAs cannot, I think, hold unlisted shares irrespective of platform That's what my research returned, sorry if (as I suspect) this has been covered before here.
As much as I wish it were something, it’s posturing and “Monitoring” means they aren’t doing diddly squat. Can’t start intervening in a private company based in Mexico where 73% shareholders voted yes.
Love to be proven wrong but just can’t see this having any credibility.
Something for them to discuss at their Christmas party.
For those still interested, the Mexico Commission meets on Wednesday this week (not the usual Friday, although maybe that will be announced later) and Ganfeng/BCN are not on the agenda.

A government source said ministers are monitoring the deal and that they could choose to intervene at a later stage, although nothing is expected imminently. It also shows comments from Dee
