Day367: Meet really hot young woman
Day367->Live happily ever after
Day 4 research the freakin amazin LFT and get on the interweb to buy some shares.
This the AVCT board so
Day 1 Affi +ve isolate (If negative go to work)
Day 2 Affi +ve isolate (if negative isolate)
Day 3 Affi +ve isolate repeat from Day 2 (if negative for the second time, go to work)
Repeat test 3 days after last negative test or last consecutive negative if regulations require
We’ve had it then. He was last seen trying the 2 LFD solution by shoving one up each nostril. Wibble.
Yes that is the solution Wiggly - provided that the behavioural scientists say it can be communicated in a way that passes the Matt Le Tissier stoopidity threshold test.
If Positive with Affidx and Negative with Mol/Innova/Surescreen then PCR should be used to verify
If Positive with Affidx and Positive with confirmatory Mol/Innova/Surecreen, then no need for PCR to validate as you are 100% positive.
If negative with Affidx then crack on!
I think we’re in violent agreement there. :)
CO,
If Positive with Affidx and Negative with Mol/Innova/Surescreen then PCR should be used to verify.
However, we know Avacta detects a lot of infectious cases that Innova would miss. In these cases, individuals would have a positive result on AffiDx and negative on Innova. Therefore that combo of results can’t be taken as a negative green light result. So any benefit of our gold standard sensitivity would be lost with this approach, and lots of infectious false negatives on the Innova test would be free to go about their business after testing positive on AffiDx. I just don’t get how that is helpful.
Anyway, I’ll spare you all any further attempt to paraphrase myself. Man gotta eat!
Correct and we disagree. Your argument against using a confirmatory LFD (as in that case why bother with the original LFD) also stands for confirmatory PCR testing.
Luckily, myself, Wiggly and Mina are happy with our cheaper, more convenient solution.
That is, don’t bother with the confirmatory LFD, not the AffiDx!
Maybe I’m misunderstanding you, but it sounds like you are suggesting a confirmatory 2nd LFD (eg Innova) to confirm a positive AffiDx result, and saying it should be a red light if both are positive, and a green light if either of them are negative? That is what I have offered a counter argument against.
If I’m misunderstanding your suggestion, apologies.
*wanging on
Ok, I’m saying bother to reduce the burden and stop Deeks wanting on about false positives and people needing to isolate. They’re both valid solutions, one cheaper and more convenient
Exactly this, not sure why it has become a debate, its so obvious;
Currently - use an LFD. Negative, crack on. Positive, get a PCR
Future? - use an AffiDx LFD. Negative, crack on. Positive, get a confirmatory LFD
Add to the above, the Gov could issue packs of 7, right now, to every household in the UK and have them test daily/weekly.
No need for the 'perfect' test as the above delivers the perfect solution.
“Either replace PCR with an LFD and trust it or don’t bother.”
Fully agree. I’m saying don’t bother! Only benefit is speed of confirmation in the double positive outcome, accelerating contact tracing efforts.
What’s difficult to understand?
Currently - use an LFD. Negative, crack on. Positive, get a PCR
Future? - use an AffiDx LFD. Negative, crack on. Positive, get a confirmatory LFD
By your argument CO, let’s all get PCR tests, why bother with AffiDx?
The high specificity means more confidence in a positive result, not more confidence in a negative result. Innova misses a lot of positive cases, I.e. has a lot of false negatives. So you can’t trust a negative Innova result.
Nope, perfect aligned wires. That’s not true, the innova test is only to confirm positives.
PL, I think your wires are crossed here. Yes, the benefit of AffiDx is its high sensitivity. I fully agree that a negative result would be a green light. But following your suggestion, you would also be giving a green light to anyone who tests positive on AffiDx then negative on the follow up Innova test. In that case, you might as well not bother with the AffiDx in the first place.
CO, I disagree with needing a PCR if you get a negative on a second LFD. If it’s 100% specific it should be trusted. Either replace PCR with an LFD and trust it or don’t bother.
*benefit of including the N test
Christ, so many posts, sorry!
