That was mentioned as ordinarily it doesn’t make sense, but when put in context against the initial govt response to the pandemic they’ve now realised that they haven’t invested in diagnostics. That’s was the other main theme David brought out, that the whole industry should be more appropriately valued, in every sense of the word, in future
I thought it was very interesting the point of governments all wanting sovereign test manufacture. If it was feasible from a cost perspective then it would already exist. I think that is where the advantage of the affimers may come to the fore. Cheaper than MAbs to produce, quicker but then the kit maybe needs to go overseas.
&a picture paints a thousand words....
Almost as telling when you watch the full version of the clip is the facial expressions of the guys top left and bottom right at 31 minutes. Bottom right in particular who is barely containing a smile all the time David is talking.....
Fair enough Timster :-D. You’d think he was a govt spokesperson. It seems the main message he wanted to get across is that the govt are heavily involved, not just in the short term, but increasingly for the long term. He repeated that message in his opening comments, throughout and in summary. As he said, it’s not without risks bedding in with the govt, but as we’ve seen with Sona there are no guarantees elsewhere either. Personally I think it’s a good decision. Assuming all goes well then other countries will soon gain a lot of interest in the approach and more importantly the test. It feels we’re in for the very long haul here, so timescales to get the test manufactured won’t ultimately be an issue despite being painfully slow compared to the hope of summer. Still, crushing 3 years work in to 6-9 months isn’t a bad effort.
thanks @pl75. but that clip tells me all I need to know :)
Muck, ignore Timster, he’s a known dewamper. The full panel discussion is worth watching, as is David’s solo appearance which is where the clip comes from.
Got it PL75 - many thanks!
Thanks Timster
Timster, no there isn’t. That clip is from his other presentation, similar theme but different comments.
Muck, if you’re in the lobby on the main menu at the bottom you should see an orange icon for the industry panel discussion in the middle. That should take you to the panel discussion
MUst admit that as encouraging as the webinar was, the fact that he said tests coming out in a few months meant I would have sold up my holding. I am holding for the carrot of BAMS S&S being released that will give further credibility to affimers. More than a little frustrated at the delay with these results.
there's a cut down version here:

PL - am struggling to access the content using the link. I registered but cant find the content - can you give me some help? Apologies for being an idiot and thanks!
(Reported and will ignore the cross ramp from iPhone)
Timster, did you watch the panel discussion?

Worth watching, in particular the Q at 31 mins.
Summary of David Wilson - Very very active engagement, strategic objective, home source, manufacturing capacity. Significant effort underway, need to see if it can reach the scale. Govts can bring results at scale that wouldn’t be possible. Intention is there, huge challenge. What does it mean for Awacta? Short term - Could potentially have a very big customer for one or more of our tests (laughs) that could take substantial proportion or even everything, or nothing. Great opportunity. Long term - Govts have recognised the value and in growing the industry.
IPhone, you best get yourself over to onc then, your as well to sell the rest of your shares as news isn't imminent.
If of course you do hold any!
Why do the detractors always "still hold a few"?,Yes mate sure you do.......lol....;-))
I told you all not to expect news for a few weeks. Director would not have sold if there was news in days. Simple logic really and in the mean time i am hoping onc will do well today with that rns. yes, still hold a few avct. i have not sold all.
think its worth a bump, while we wait, do some research today. How many UK companies are out there producing a Lateral flow "pregnancy style test" which Bojo can proudly present as the UK's Sovereign test?
YES
Is it us?
Does is start with an A?
Hi Timster, which of those two companies are fully engaged with the govt, part of the condor programme and have already commenced tech transfer?
We now know the government is working towards a sovereign test to secure supply to the UK.
So how many sovereign companies are producing a rapid lateral flow device?
I think 2 that would actually fit into this category, mologic and Avacta.
TWO tests to mass screen the population of the UK
MASSIVE.......
