Innova may have a free pass on the new testing protocol (which is just ridiculous, but is to save face of HMG!), HOWEVER they only have 2 months EURA extension for self testing (expires end August). I certainly hope that will not be extended further. Avacta are currently doing some sort of self test validation with Mologic, certainly hope that is concluded shortly(!?).
Also note that the new testing protocol allows for the use of frozen samples, which was thought to be an issue with Avacta!?
The self test validation (other than EURA) seems a bit vague, but agree with others that Avacta and HMG seem to be working closely, so here's hoping for some good news, but will take awhile though!
@Bella
Yes, it WAS a public consultation, that has now concluded.
The proposed new legislation has followed on from this consultation.
https://www.gov.uk/government/news/government-sets-out-laws-to-validate-accuracy-of-private-covid-19-tests
This is the proposed legislation which gives Innova a 'free pass' as far as the new testing protocol is concerned.
This 'free pass' is the focus of my attention.
@killer. Of course the govt cannot be trusted to do the right thing...unless they're forced to.
Here's a screengrab of the article: https://ibb.co/f8NsCfh
Scarey.. as you know it is only
'a public consultation open to everyone, including businesses involved in the manufacturer, distribution and retail of COVID-19 tests as both a good and a service from all parts of the UK. We are also keen to receive expert academic views.
Copies of the consultation paper are being sent to:
Association of British HealthTech Industries
British In Vitro Diagnostics Association
British Medical Association
Make UK
Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency
National Pharmacy Association
Royal Pharmacy Association
United Kingdom Accreditation Service'
Thanks MrsKOB
I don't subscribe and not able to read it or post an answer.
Personally I think Scardy should send his findings direct to Julia rather than post on the site...I'm sure she'd love to receive more info which could help her with a follow up article.
Thanks @Bella, but I that's the original PD protocol, even though it says updated 17th June, it's pretty much the same. I think there's a new 'threshold performance' paper associated with the new evaluation protocol (which it would seem is independent of PD now). Maybe it hasn't been published yet.
Updated 17 June 2021
Here is the telegraph link Bella...I subscribe so could comment but my husband doesn't and he still managed to read the article and comments
https://www.telegraph.co.uk/business/2021/06/23/lateral-flow-test-approval-process-must-reformed-industry-leaders/
Note ..it was updated on 27 June 2021....
Yeh, thought it might be that myself AgentB, but was wondering if there was anything more specific that's been published since, as that was a consultation, rather than a definitive spec. Will keep looking. Cheers
Hi Scardey,
Not unless it refers to this consultation paper posted by PL recently(?)
https://www.gov.uk/government/consultations/private-coronavirus-covid-19-testing-validation/private-covid-19-testing-validation
Now 6 out of 9 replies mention Avacta. Come on - lets have a concerted campaign to try to get the Telegraph to make this headline news and cause the government to sit up and take notice.
@AgentB
Putting the finishing touches to my request to MP's to amend proposed legislation to exclude the exemption clause from the proposed new legislation.

Need a bit of help.
The above govt webpage says the following:
"Separately, the DHSC is also publishing a threshold paper setting out performance expectations for testing for COVID-19. The performance thresholds set out in this paper [link] are used as the framework for the new laws on the validation of tests."
It says [link], but gives no link.
Anybody come across this 'threshold paper setting out performance expectations'?
Yes, just read it (I'm subscribed)
Mologic is mentioned, and at least the flawed PD process is getting aired.
Avacta mentioned twice out of 3 times in the comments section though!
"Lateral flow test approval process must be reformed, industry leaders say."
Behind a paywall but first mainstream article discussing test approval issues. Looks like its being stirred up by BBI questioning why Innova are moving into Wales but also refers to Mologics own test. No mention of Avacta.
