Testing yourself the day before or the morning of a flight will be fine but what happens if one of the party tests positive?. As Vegas suggests the airlines and holiday companies will have to negotiate some form of insurance or the risk of losing your holiday/trip will be too great to warrant the risk of booking in the first place.
I can't see airports/airlines accepting any form of pre-test prior to arriving at the airport, too difficult to verify. The only solution in my opinion will be airport testing at point of departure thus giving passengers and arrival authorities the same confidence that they would expect as they would if considering if someone onboard is carrying a machete.
Thanks PL75

On sky news now, Heathrow representitive David Evans advises
Advising the airport test this is a LAMP test rather than PCR.
Will cost Ā£80.
Will have results in 20 mins to 1 hour.
Their will be an antigen test coming later that will cost less than Ā£80.
Arbitrage1965,
I think a self test the night before may not be enough. Say the test is negative, then you get on a train, tube, buses etc and catch the virus then.
If I were to get on a plane with 300 other people I would prefer they were all proved clear just before they got on the plane or entered the airport.
Your obsessed with AL did he give a SDT at uni or something,Do you have a twin brother called chickendinner by any chance?........;-)
Been saying for months?
We hadn't noticed. Zzzzzzzzzz
Collinson are an Airport service provider a little like Swissport, they are not a DX company, having experienced the Jersey entry experiment itās an old fashioned nose and throat swab followed by PCR.
This appears to be another attempt by Heathrow to pressure the Govt in relation to the 14 day quarantine.
I say get on with it out it in place then when the holy grail of tests is ready swap it in and the PCR out, that way the infrastructure will already be in place and that will speed up my profits.
Maybe this could tie in with the stuff yesterday about Amazon / Royal Mail delivering and Collecting tests, it could be the second test that they collect from people who have recently entered the country thereby reducing the 14 day quarantine....
Mologic, Nano, Optigene, NCYT, , , , ......... all seem always ahead of Sir Al, been saying for months Sir Al should spend some of the Ā£48m placing money and get some folks from NCYT as they seem to know how to get things done.
No good having the best test in the world in ones own medicine cupboard.
Itās a stop gap.
The future is surely avacta test the night before you are due to fly.
QR codes will play a part no doubt.
There is a conference on this, this week I think with BBI....
Big question around how prove it has taken that day.
But how is that of any use?....I'm tested then sit in the airport for an hour waiting for my result with thousands of others,Just makes no sense to me.
It's the Mologic antigen test. Previously covered many times. They're on second stage trials now.
The UK RTC have just had an order for Ā£75 million for antibody tests from the government. On the government bid awards site. Fyi.
The test in the airposts cost Ā£80 and results in 1 hour according to sky news.
Agreed. Definitely not AVCT. Heathrow didnāt test AVCT - they used two PCR tests and the Mologic saliva test.

Government are concerned about people āgamingā the system so any test which negates the requirement for quarantine or shortens that requirement will be administered by a professional and ID will be required.
Of course, once AVCT tests are available in vast quantities this may well change.
Pretty sure not mologic either. It even names the test in the article!
It was Mologic in collaboration with ODX
definitely not Avacta
I assume theyāre referring to this article:
https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-8857205/Heathrow-staff-offer-80-pre-flight-coronavirus-tests.html
Itās not AVCT being used at Heathrow, though.
Can someone share link to daily mail article please.
I'm lost for words
This article sounds very much like AVCT to me.
