"MM, I get your query, but at the same time I think that will be the popular reaction."
Yes, I am sure it will. The problem has been the lack of any real education of the public around the benefits of "quality" LFT's.
Of course, the fact that a "quality" LFT has not yet been used is a huge part of the problem. None of this helps Avacta's cause. Which of course makes it all the more strange and dissapointing that Avacta have not pushed the virtues of what they have much more aggressively with any kind of postive PR campaign.
It means they come to market with most of the world thinking LFT's are rubbish and thinking they shouldn't use them.
The UK Gov have tried in a way to extol the virtues of LFT but shooting themselves in the foot by handing out garbage.
I had one jab and am having bad cough and fever since last 2 days so used free LF home test kit and it came back negative twice. Today I have booked PCR test. Hopefully that will be negative too. I ordered the free home test kit a month back.
I definitely would prefer saliva based test than the nasal swab. I saw AVCT test kit usage video, it does seem like easy to do it but why was it CE marked only for professional use and not for home use?
@jdt1990 and agree the Innova needs to be replaced with Avacta
@jdt1990. It was his friend who tested positive that prompted him to take the lft tests, both were negative after 4 days since contact with the person who was positive. He also had symptoms so I would have expected a decent lft to pick it up. Innova played no useful part.
hartyh I absolutely agree Innova needs binning as it’s completely unfit for purpose, especially with the alternatives available now.
However, you could flip your scenario there on its head and say that is the exact reason LFTs need to be continued to be used (just better ones) as there is a chance your friend is positive post infectious, and has been deemed PCR positive on a very small viral load.
That’s exactly what LFTs are there to do - detect people at infectious stages and avoid unnecessary isolation for people who positive pre/post infectious.
MM, I get your query, but at the same time I think that will be the popular reaction.
We are all here naturally very clued up relative to joe public, probably more so then many decision makers on this subject, which is saying something. But apart from a very few, the public will not pay to take tests when they feel fine, particularly if they have been jabbed.
If you are forced to at work, then obviously that's different, or mandated to before going to an event, but generally I personally would be surprised if people who feel perfectly fine, took a test.
Basically minimus is saying he’s happy for others to take the precautions and altruistic testing, but he’s not prepared. Classic, bet he’s on benefits saying he’s happy to claim everyone else’s money but can’t be bothered to go to work himself, what a covidiot.
"COVID is a virus that I don’t want to get but I ain’t going to do routine testing to find out if by chance I have it asymptomatically"
So you are happy to spread it to others who might not be so lucky with their symptoms?
Nice.
A colleague of mine did 2 lateral flow tests yesterday that showed negative, then went for a PCR test at a centre and he has just emailed me to say he is positive. Just goes to show the Innova tests need binning
COVID is a virus that I don’t want to get but I ain’t going to do routine testing to find out if by chance I have it asymptomatically. Sorry but testing is a confirmation process in the long term and not a screening method that is issued in scale once the restrictions are lifted. Also governments are no going to tolerate excessive profits on testing any more than on vaccines. Factor that into your Avacta share price projections.
Sometimes daily for work. Otherwise twice weekly with Innova’s test at home. Which I have subsequently stopped doing and reporting the results online. If I feel symptomatic, I might take one out of the naughty drawer to check
Hello Scarabbeatle
You are using PCR once and LFT twice per week which is good. Agree that daily LFt is the way to go.
Are you in the public or private sector?
Through work, I PCR test once a week and LFT twice a week with one LFT taken on the same day before the PCR.
Personally I believe and I said this over 12 months ago is to get an accurate LFT test taken every morning which you then scan onto an app which gives you a free pass for the day. Problem with PCR it is still a 2 day wait to get your results and PCR is only good for the time/day of test. By the time you get results you could be infectious but of tested negative two days Before. All in IMO
How many people posting here have actually been LFT tested?
Prior to Covid, my wife and I would both regularly visit the gym, entertain friends and frequent local shops and restaurants. This all stopped in March 2020, (Covid and Lockdown).
We have kept ourselves safe by social distancing. Working from home, the highlight of the week has been our early morning visits to the super market while observing social distancing and using hand sanitiser / face masks.
As things have begun to open, back on the golf course (open air and socially distanced) but still avoiding the club house. Not back to the gym. Closed environment, sweaty bodies and shared equipment are opportunities for infection.
We have both been double vaccinated (AZ) but remain cautious. Having had so many restrictions, we do not want another lockdown. We have received the HM Government Innova LFT test kits and tried them once. Both tested clear but the process was not comfortable. Focus has been Stay Safe rather than regular testing.
We all want to return to a more normal life seeing family and friends, using pubs and restaurants, enjoying holidays, etc. How do we do this safely and minimise the risks of infections and increased numbers?
Avacta Test and it’s use:
Avacta appear to have the best in class LFT with manufacturing capacity. Orders pending with news soon.
If we self test (LFT) clear before going to the pub, gym or airport and are then tested again at the pub, gym or airport, we can start to feel that we are moving in a safer environment. It does require a lot of low cost, highly accurate, LFT kits. Avacta have the test with orders pending. We need an easy to understand testing policy that all are comfortable with, will use and will honour the results.
Self LFT testing should be a daily routine like brushing teeth.
Questions:
How many people posting here have actually been LFT tested?
How often do you use LFT's?
How are you seeing LFT's used to successfully open things up and stay safe?
Interested to hear others thoughts, …………
