good ..one day ..we will go for a beer ..and have a good debate....
No problem, apology accepted. I've probably just had too much sun today.....!!
Have a good evening.
Sorry ABM...I like you to questioning me ....as others ...dont take anything personal...this is all about debate...info...you say something ...I say somthing... Im quite happy to have a debate.....please continue to enlighten me with your opinions...which ...I really think you are very interesting........which inspires me to go further....
I find on this board very enlighting...if i have offended..I apologise...sorry...please continue to tell me your opinion ...good or bad.........isint this what is is all about....different opinions....and I respect your opinion very much........RBM you have a different opinion to me ...then tell me....no problem....
Thanks Jjtrader, I feel educated and enlightened. I'll be sure to pass on the info that it is indeed 'as simple as bolting on whatever you want'. Not entirely sure why you're being so confrontational - you asked a question and I gave you an expanded answer (ie yes, they do make specials, and always have done) and you give me a lecture on how simple a process it is. I never said it was incredibly difficult, I said it was incredibly expensive. But 'just bolt on whatever you want'.....what engineering planet do you live on?
What a lovely way to respond when I simply took the time to answer a question you'd asked. I won't bother again, got better things to be doing with my time. Have a nice evening.
Yes thanks RBM I saw that.. In a way the AGM is more than just the numbers its how they choose to represent the information. the fact that you say there is a buzz is exactly what you want..
The Sultan of Brunei has done many projects over the years..including designing a fleet suv bentleys for his family s.....
I know the process.....and in this situation the process is not....... a little bit more complicated than just 'bolting on whatever they want'..........when you have a feasible structrure platorm......
other performance manufacture s do just this........for one offs.... as ive said before ..these are for special customers...
and are not advertised
Jjtrader, Yep, think you'll see that I actually said they'd do whatever you want, but you'd just have to have extremely deep pockets. Truth of the matter is that this is already available and ahs always been available, but it's not advertised. However, there are quite a few customers who work with the design team to create the exact car they want. However, the process is a little bit more complicated than just 'bolting on whatever they want'.
you are talking about the platform ..the struture..of these cars ...these are not ford fiestas ...you are talking about carbon fibre rigid plattorm structues s ..like Ferrari for example..... However, with the 'standard cars' being bonded aluminium and the mid engine cars likely to be mainly composite and carbon fibre...how is it ... Ferrari can bolt on what ever they want .....whether that be aluminium panels or carbon fibre to these rigid aluminium or carbon fibre platforms....dont forget once you have the basic platform..for these cars....not mass produced fiestas ......you can "bolt on "what ever you want...once you have the structure you can do what ever is ....feasible
No probs. Also, don't know if you saw what's below, I posted it yesterday, but a pretty busy board then. Signs are good for a very interesting AGM this week, think Stroll will be pretty bullish....
'Tried to get a definitive number on DBX orders through AML contacts, but they're keeping it quiet prior to the AGM. They will be giving pretty accurate numbers out then. They're keeping it quiet until the AGM because it's very good news. Apparently the place is buzzing about how well DBX is going. Very few cancellations through pandemic and really starting to take off again as lockdowns start to ease. Roll on the AGM.....it's being teed up internally to be very positive.'
Thanks RBM will adjust.
Guys, just picked up on this thread, sorry been enjoying the sun.
Model split and timings about right. GPs about right, except DBX will be well above 30% after extras.
Aston already offer a bespoke service via their Q design dept. They'll go as far as you want to spend!! However, with the 'standard cars' being bonded aluminium and the mid engine cars likely to be mainly composite and carbon fibre, there's actually no potential for panel beaters to just make and bolt on new panels, like the old coachbuilder days. New panels means very expensive, stressed composites, new moulds, new high precision presses etc. Very expensive for one car, but they will do it if you have the money. In fact, AML already have a history of doing so, for example The Sultan of Brunei has had several bespoke Astons made over the years, including a 80's Virage 'shooting brake' (ugly as sin)…..
Pau1Oz yes you are right ...but im taking about 1 offs so not... production....a complete different department......
for special customers....
carscoffee..there is a big demand for this ...just the special customers do not want attention.....hence ..no advertising......
again..... these skins are placed onto modern cars .... these customers want something.... just .....a little different....not a complete new theme....the designers will always make sure the design is still in the car brand design language and heritage ........
Yes Lambo still do - but not for the model that they have maxed out the demand for - is my point.
You pay a premium for Lambo custom - but their logic is that the extra profit from doing that is lower than getting a higher number of units out the door when building them all standard(ish), as it's much faster.
Lambo do , do customs for special customers ......but that was a few years ago ...dont know about now....
but am sure they still do......remember the phrase ...special customers.....they get what ever what they want .....if they pay....
Jj, Aston Works does this to a certain degree. You can get a donor chassis and they will build whatever you want but normally a rebuild of an old classic.
This service normally costs between £300-500K. In theory they could expand this to a more custom nature of modern cars but I am not sure the demand is really there.
This is also how Zagato started back in the day and they still make models for Aston look at the Shooting brake.
I think Aston have a good custom build and specials structure that actually is superior to any other brand with Ferrari on a similar level.
Depends how fast they sell I'd think.
For example Lambo are still not offering custom (Ad Personam) on the Urus, as 18 months after launch they're still a year behind demand for it, and they're not doing anything that would slow them down. I would entirely expect this to be the kind of efficiency logic that the new AML management team follow.
ok ..ill be more precise......
selling price 2 to 2 half million
3 guys making design model
1 or 2 designers making design model
8 panel beater guys ..
donar car 200000
30 percent labour cost
10 percent donar car
10-20 percent other.....
does the Valkyrie make these profits..
this is why other performance production companies do this.....
Hi Jt, Again Im not sure its cost effective, but also maybe not in keeping with the prestige brand of Aston- to build what customers want.. it can take away and move too far from a core theme.. but hey thats just my view.. maybe dial in to the AGM? :)
Yep exactly. Im also using 50-60% margins on Specials, and the Valhalla.. 30% on the DBX as we discussed previously. and 30% on existing. Cheers
3m for a valkyrie.....
in basic terms ..what im saying is ..making a new skin for an .....already in production model......to the customer wishes...
so actual extra cost is only for design model and hand workers using english wheel and tools to beat the new skin....
so a lot .. lot more profit than a ground up development of the 3m valkyrie........in real terms...
Sounds about right, I assume you have the other 30% of Valkyrie in 2020?
Cheers Cars.
Aside from DBX and current line up Im modelling:
2021- Valkyrie 70% of models incl. amr plus all of 88 v12 speedsters
2022- Valhalla 150 of 500?
2023- Valhalla 350, and Vanquish orders start delivery maybe 500?
thoughts?
cost effective ...um.. I cant say for AML....but other performance production companies do it ....and make a profit......
remember these specials would be for the customers who already own a valkyrie and a.... so on.. so. on....
these are for the elite customers......who already have it...
but why not.......AML...is there such thing as .... enough ... good profit
Valkyrie is being made at the RedBull technology centre as far as I believe.
They will start to be delivered later this year and should all be out by the end of 2021.
Valhalla will not start to be delivered until the end of 2022 and through 2023
