Muscorum ....You are well aware the only convincing answers will come from AFC themselves....others will have their views as you do .....eagerly awaiting a new Tom Pollard blog.
Whether or not they have a CE mark, I wonder if one or two of these NDA's are trialling them, hence the lack of news.
It’s something sensible to debate as we wait red - better than the normal arguments! You are right though, it’s another mention of something we never get closure on.
I think people are reading too much in to this. AFC haven’t even announce a CE mark for their system, let alone a combined unit!
Wasn’t this due about 2 or 3 months ago? Yet silence from the chinless wonder, Mr Bond
I’ve searched and I often see “ The combination of two or more CE marked sub-systems does not always automatically produce a compliant system.”
When combining products by a manufacturer for sale then it looks like additional risk assessments are required. I’ve not seen anything to say a new CE mark is required however but there is clearly plenty to do to ensure the combination works before it gets sold as a package, and if the combination is put together by the manufacturers (rather than users) it is the manufacturers responsibility to undertake all the checks, produce the docs etc.
13thMonkey ....Correct ...as individual items they will have their own CE marking.....however ...the AFC EV package consists of 3 items to make it work as an EV charger....the fuel cell container + battery storage + charging posts ....this is what AFC are trying to sell....an EV charger ....3 becomes 1 to make it work...and as such will require a single CE marking....that is my interpretation ....clearly many disagree.
Exactly
One of those yellow voltage convertor things on building sites (like an upturned bucket) will have a CE mark, the drill that plugs in will have a CE mark, but not together, else every possible combination of convertor and tool would have to be tested by one of the parties, every manufacturer, every model, in combination will all possible convertors.
Muscorum ....All i will say is that Tom Pollard will be well versed in CE certification ....Rolec have it ...so maybe one of Tom's blogs could be on the topic of achieving CE certification....then we will all know .
Looking at the gov site on CE marking it says “ By placing the CE marking on a product a manufacturer is declaring, on his sole responsibility, conformity with all of the legal requirements to achieve CE marking. ”
Could AFC do this for someone else’s product they plug into, or would they want to ensure whatever they plug into is CE marked?
Muscorum ....If only it was that simply ....AFC would have had the CE approval before the roadshow ...it has not been mentioned for about 4 months....i am thinking it is not so simple .
What happened to the oem we was ment to be working with
I’m with heath on this issue
The best way as I would see it is for the AFC unit to have a ‘hydrogen in’ port and an ‘electricity out’ port. It would be then totally decoupled from the hydrogen feed (be that from cracked ammonia, dirty/pure hydrogen) and where the electricity is destined for (batteries, grid etc). It can then be certified separately and swapped in and out as required.
Muscorum ...If you are refering to the ACCIONA system .....the CE certification will not apply as it is a trial or demonstartion ...in the same way CE approval did not apply to the roadshow demonstration ....it is when the systems are ready for sale the CE approval must be in place for the product you are selling.....maybe the ACCIONA trial will make up part of the CE approval....in the RNS for the ACCIONA collaboration they did mention that both parties will work to validate the technology ....lets hope that AB can give an update that we can all understand ...
With the Ammonia cracker incorporated the AFC units will certainly need a seperate CE certification....since we have no idea what is happening with the Ammonia cracker system it is difficult to form an opinion as to how often they may change cracker manufacturer.....
For the AFC fuel cell to be sold as a EV charger the battery storage pack must be classed as integral ....seems an odd question muscorum.
As the MSP battery storage pack is an integral part of the AFC EV charging package ....will this have to be CE certified as one unit ?....an update would be most welcome.
AFC Energy Plc
#AFC
announced that it will today, in collaboration with its partner, MSP Technologies,
It’s not a marriage, partners are only exclusive if you have signed an exclusivity deal.
Have they? Not of course not, all businesses are working at selling their products.
In the RNS dated 17th Sept 2019.....MSP are noted as a key partner ....https://www.lse.co.uk/rns/AFC/afc-energy-presenting-at-solar-storage-show-2019-wowuvo7qnexm6yb.html ....has that now changed ?
ok i'll hold my hands up, my mistake here, for some reason i thought i'd seen MSP as a partner, they aren't.
Don't think of it as partners, think of it as a customer and supplier..
Very narrow minded Daz, Its about the advancement of the technology, not protectionism. It's the new world.
Musc, I’m sure it probably does work with a fuel cell and is probably a sales avenue, I’m just thinking we are already partnered with MSP and how does this affect that relationship, you must see that surely ?
