A signing ceremony during the election campaign while touring the district would make sense, with great fan fare, so voters can reward the president with their vote.
Could be as simple as waiting for a pre-planned photo-opp in the GE campaign?!
Lots of noise from both Govt and opposition in that campaign about use of gas to power the domestic market. Also, exporting gas. The LNG marked offshore gas is not the gas they are talking about because it is going to LNG. So the only source of gas they have for all the plans and demand is ours. What I am trying to say is that I believe it will be a big splash announcement by the Govt in the election campaign. Why would they wait and miss getting electoral credit for the news?
The farmout is still win-win for Govt and Aminex/Ara and it makes no sense not to approve it, IMHO. The Govt cannot fund the development themselves.
I applaud the tactic that communicates that we are running out of patience.
Squeaky bum time, for sure.
This government seems to want to drive a hard bargain to perhaps impress the electorate. Does anyone know what the sticking points are with the farmout? Was it sensible to force a decision by October 15 when the election is a fortnight later? Maybe we will get sign off next week and a vote-seeking president who will boast of not having given up the nation’s natural resources cheaply.
You do not make the last call, unless it is the last call. They've had endless nearly-last calls over two years and TZ are taking the ****. Now it /is/ the last call.
They'll be asking for their CGT back and stamp duty back. It would seem Medard Kalimani is too busy doing photo-shoots to be bothered running the country's energy business. Someone needs to give him a kick in the arse.
This has gone way beyond a joke. It makes the country's energy ministry look like a joke, its presidency look like a joke and its ruling CCM party look like a joke. It is totally unbelievable.
I very much doubt the government will have their hand forced before the election unless that was always their plan. More likely there will be another 'last' extension based on reassurance given. I doubt APT are even expecting/hoping much more than to try and open up more senior dialogue within government with this. With Santos' background I'd imagine simply saying you have 15 days or it's off is not the full picture/plan.
So Tanzania you are right behind the Omanis then as that is their man?
There is absolutely no comparison between Wentworth and Aex. Are you including all the majors as well as being in the same boat?! FFS.
Well they have tried doing nothing other than what the Government ask for the last 3 years, a change of tact might bring results I suppose.
Only couple of weeks max of BB posts and various arguments before we find out ;0)
I agree Crusty, it's been a hard and worrying day for us all.
I'm right behind Ambrose on this.
Oh I see - a bit like me struggling through the Govt enforced COVID lockdown in the same way as the Hinduja Brothers and the Duke of Westminster then?
It's simple and very obvious Crusty - Government dominating intransigence. Of course, the last thing we would ever want to consider is the brown envelope way which I'm sure it is not, hence Wentworth are under the same control as us which Ambrose has been brave enough to challenge.
I hope you don't mind my asking Tanzania but in what way do you perceive Wentworth to be in the same boat as us? They are producing gas, have plenty of cash, a regular income with no overdue invoices, no debt, pay shareholders a dividend in excess of 8% and are not having their life blood squeezed out of them by the Tanzanian Administration....
What boat do we share other than that we are both "invested" in Tanzanian gas?
Talk of blasphemy over on Wentworth. More and more I get the feeling they are in the same boat as us and we are doing them a great big service !
Attached is copy of a response i've sent Jagergard over on the Wentworth chat forum.
"Thanks for the advice over on the Aminex forum. We are now on a deadline with government up to 15 inst. The attraction to stay on is the Omani's wealth and driving force. Can I suggest to you, if licence approval is received, you bunk over there fast to catch the huge rise acoming. Best wishes to all"
