Interestingly some of the estates around this part of the world have set aside hundreds and hundreds of acres the last few years for wildflowers and nature habitats and with the ‘Putin factor’ questions about increasing grain etc production.
That idiot and his ambitions to better Peter the Great or whoever has effected more than death and destruction(and high diesel prices!),can’t believe no one has tried to pop him off yet!
No mate,we planted it ourselves on a hillside that wasn’t commercially viable due to its size. Just ag land I guess so no taxes. Off grid,no services and don’t live there. Obviously we pay council tax etc on the modern box where we live…..one day hope to live on the plot but planners only let their mates live on their own land!
Nomlungu I see
Looking a 2 acres for conservation purposes like to be buried with bluebells and wildlife above.
evi,
Woodland is generally the plaything of the rich and landed gentry... So there is no council tax, Income Tax or Corporation Tax on the sale of timber; any grants received are also free of tax.

Yes pretty cool !
Is Woodland expensive ? Do you pay council tax?
Hi Evi, they look like they’re floating up there!!
Hi Jonathan, thanks for the links. Tbh we only really play at it but it’s heavy work mostly but like any form of gardening very rewarding to see the fruits of labour whether it’s a patch at the end of a small garden or an acreage!
Have a good weekend all.

Hi James, your way of life sounds hard but very rewarding. If you're on twitter a farmer in Roscommon, Keith Brennan @ HawHillFarm has a similar outlook to wildlife. His writing style is a joy to read.

hope yuv finished re stoning that dry stone wall.
AA, if only I liked wine! I’m a bit of a beer man and numerous home brew attempts have ended up in too-frequent visits to the loo so I just buy what I want at the supermarkets!!
Good luck with it mate.
Managed wilderness please lol!!
I’ve let 4 or 5 acres do as it pleases but manicure the edges and through the middle so I can keep an eye on it plus a bit of a firebreak in case, the rest is in practice a big garden and the dogs can run free but also a lot of work keeping small rabbits out….they get through the tiniest of gaps and if the dogs get them it ain’t pretty!
It’s not a lake but a stream fed pond and mostly dries up in times like this so more boggy but enough to keep the moorhens etc accommodated bud.
I’m a good 15-18% offside year to date on so-called sensible stuff(with a bit of racy thrown into the big mix lol)but being an eternal optimist if I factor in divs I’ll take a bit off!
Don’t fret over shares these days, they ‘look’ too high or low I’ll make a move, otherwise I just tinker around and avoid piling into the big drops unless there’s a div to catch it on the way down…..we own our losses and a few profits we hold onto but in the real world it’s all about trying to stay happy, fed and good to those we like and respect and care for.
Hi James/ Troaj, bit hectic just recently
Started 5 gallon of elderflower wine.
