RE: Share split
Wed 19:59
This gives a guaranteed yield of 7%.
Aah.If they re consolidate the shares back to the pre split price which is not unusual (1400p in the example) then the holder would have 82 % of the holding that they previously had with a divi at 5.7% .Therefore,if you had 100 share pre split, the 100 x,975 =£97.5 divi .Ex split you would have 82 shares x.80 = £65,6 divi + any divi from newco. As previously stated, all things being equal the there should be no gain /loss on the deal.

Share split
Wed 15:11
If Bigbadbaz logic is correct and SSE shares drop 18% after the split to 1148p then remember there is an index linked dividend of 80p available.

This gives a guaranteed yield of 7%.

There is the likelihood that Mergco will also pay a dividend - SSE retail made around £216 million last year even after setting aside £50m in merger costs-NPower retail is the weakest link-if Mergco can turn it around there should be a bit of money to be made in it.

RE: Company splits in half

As for the SP splitting in half, the current rise suggests the opposite is in play by those who want a piece of the action.

Utilities are all up this week. The ex d date is coming shortly hence the extra bit on the sp.63 p will vanish overnight.

EXAMPLE------ If SSE sp is 1400p on the day of the split 18% goes to the new company therefore old company (SSE) would be worth 1148p and new company 252p.
Should SSE re consolidate back to 1400p then you would get .82 sse shares for every one you hold +1 new share in the new company.

SSE numbers are 97.5p divi for 18/19 and for the following year 80p.So all things being equal the new company should generate 17.5p /year in divis (maybe).
