Week ahead: US and Chinese data to take centre stage
The coming week will see markets re-focus on the flow of economic data Stateside, with several very important indicators due to be released. Chief amongst these are the monthly retail sales report on Wednesday and the University of Michigan´s consumer confidence gauge on Friday.[8 Mar '13]
Week ahead: Stage set for service sector PMIs and BoE
The coming week will see the economic data flow ease up, although there are plenty of potentially market-moving events to watch out for. Foremost amongst those will be the monthly US employment report on Friday. It comes as investors are watching to see if consumption holds up Stateside following the elimination of the payroll-tax cut and given the current moderate uncertainty surrounding the effects of 'sequestration.'[1 Mar '13]
Week ahead: All eyes on Italy and Bernanke, despite earnings deluge
Over the weekend market watchers will be keeping tabs on the results of the second round run-off of the Presidential elections in Cyprus. Conservative leader Nicos Anastasiades needs to secure a sufficient number of votes so as to convince the Troika that his country can deliver the goods in terms of revamping the economy.[22 Feb '13]
Week ahead: Central banks and Eurozone PMIs in focus
The coming week will see the flow of data or events on the macroeconomic front pick up, with the ´tempo´ building as the days pass, culminating with the Italian and Cypriot (second round) elections next weekend.[15 Feb '13]
Week ahead: G-20 in focus
Notwithstanding the possibility of surprises, especially in such volatile as those in which we live at present, the coming week may give investors a bit of a breather on the macroeconomic front.[8 Feb '13]
Week ahead: GlaxoSmithKline, Thomas Cook
The coming week will see fewer macroeconomic indicators published than the last, but there is keen interest in several of those slated for release. As well, both the Bank of England and the European Central Bank will have the chance to further guide economic agents and investors in their decision making.[1 Feb '13]
Week ahead: Mitchells and Butlers, Royal Dutch Shell
The United States is expected to take centre stage this week in economic affairs, with the Federal Open Market Committee - the central bank´s rate setting organ - set to meet on Tuesday and the all-important monthly employment report due to be published on Friday. Quite important in their own right, and useful given what they tell us about firms´ levels of investment, investors will need to watch how the latest durable goods orders and ISM manufacturing data come out.[27 Jan '13]
Week ahead: Unilever, Chemring
A Titanic week is how Investec referred to the coming week in a note sent to clients. Investors in the UK will have to watch several potentially key indicators. The most important amongst those is expected to be the report on Gross Domestic Product (GDP) on Friday, with the 'wild card' being how ONS will estimate output from the construction sector.[18 Jan '13]
Week ahead: Taylor Wimpey, Spirit Pub Company
Financial markets remain fixated on the US fiscal cliff and its effects on the economy. In the end a solution is expected, but the question remains whether Congress will 'play it to the wire' again, or worse. Simply put, markets do not quite know whether to 'look through' that uncertainty, or not. Hence - perhaps - the recent grudging pace of advance in equity markets, although the Basel Committee on Banking Supervision's decision to relax banks' liquidity requirements seems[11 Jan '13]
Week ahead: Sainsbury, Tesco
Barring surprises markets´ focus next week is expected to veer towards central banks and the outlook for monetary policy in Europe. Neither the Bank of England (BoE) nor the European Central Bank (ECB) are expected to make a move this week. Until the budget negotiations Stateside are decisively concluded, however, economic uncertainty is expected to continue to cast a pall over economic agents´ decision making, albeit to a lesser extent than was feared before last week´s fisc[4 Jan '13]
