Friday preview: German PPI, Uni of Michigan consumer sentiment

Thu, 16th Aug 2012 18:07

A quiet end top the week is in prospect, with no major company results expected in the UK, and no major economic announcements either.

German producer prices, due out before London opens on Friday, might generate a bit of interest on the European mainland. Expectations are that the index will show a 0.4% rise in July after falling 0.4% in June. The year-on-year gain is expected to moderate to 1.3% from 1.6% in June.

In the US, the University of Michigan Consumer Sentiment Index will dominate economists' attention in the afternoon. Market consensus has the August provisional reading edging up to 72.4 from 72.3 in July.
