I did think Valirx's VAL201 would be a potential superb complementary product for Axumin. Imagine controlling the PET imaging of prostate as well as a therapeutic anti-cancer agent with no side effects? (TBC in further trials anyway). Especially since Axumin may also work well in Breast cancer.

from Blue Earth today. One thing SYNC is falling behind on is adding to its newco portfolio. As far as I recall not added since the first flush when the theory was to add at least one a year. I would have thought with Welcome as a partner SYNC must have queue of exciting prospects. Lets be adding one then! Suspect the reason may be that it might mean dropping an existing duffer and they are reluctant to do that.

Hello there, yes I'm still around and keep my holdings in SYNC. It seems the SP has plateaued slightly of late, however Blue Earth and Nightstar seem to be plodding forward at a rate of knots, so I suspect this is partly because the progress was already priced into the SP.

Very happy with Valirx's technical progress and patent news as well, highly enjoy the technical potential as well, SCLP seem to be doing OK too so there's a reasonable amount of funky UK Biotech going on right now (I am not fully researched nor invested in SCLP, but from a laymans overview it appears like a nice technology).

Nightstar (part of the SYNC portfolio) is actively out there curing (or preventing blindness) in a bunch of clinical trials, I am not sure whether there is any competition in the states, but the progress seems good from what has been publicly reported. It's now treating Choroideremia and X-linked retinitis pigmentosa, with Best Vitelliform macular dystrophy and Stargardt disease in the pipeline.

The general concept of using an engineering virus to correct DNA mutations and provide functional copies of key proteins is good. But it does require surgery (i.e. it's not in pill form) so I would imagine the training curve will be steep for the rollout.

It feels like time for SYNC to be adding to the seven cos in their youngbloods group. Four are now comparatively mature and the money could come from small sales of ones which have been floated. I am sure they already have their eye on a few. RNS not expected for a few months yet but this is the type on investment which can always surprise and delight.

Well it's nice to get something right! Latest on the U.S new issue has sparked a big rise and some interest. It is too much to expect in this field that all its ventures will turn to platinum - bound to be failures and setbacks but the Welcome Trust portfolio has the gems in it as I suspected. The questions now are: 1) What new prospects will be added over time and will they be as good? 2) how high can the SP go before it is realistic to think of taking some profit? I can't answer the first but I can see the price doubling within a year or so and that might be a good point to cash some in.

Doing well on my little investment. Seems those in the know think (like me) the portfolio cos - or at least a few more of them - could win big and SYNC's holdings could reflect this.

Weekend write ups?

Blue Earth is gonna gush over next two years and someone is bound to tip this because it really isn't in the price.
The portfolio has many other cos of interest and it is reasonable to trust Welcome to have at least one other winner in there.

Who knows what a great RNS would do, you can't ask for a better RNS than that in the biotech sector!

Thanks for yours, My understanding is that Wellcome took the holding as payment for their portfolio.
The presentation was very good. Blue Earth is going rather well and my hope is that given time Syncona could be a very successful investment as well as doing a lot of good. SP moving nicely even at this early stage, Whu knows what a bit of a write-up could do?

Olda, did Wellcome buy that on the market or invest it for equity? There's a very good investor presentation section on the website now, worth a read and very detailed list of activity.

No post here since Feb so thought would liven it up. Welcome Trust now own 35% presumably for giving the co its seven portfolio holdings. They are just about the smartest guys in the field of med research so I have got in. Like the idea of doing a bit of good and this co gives 0,3% of its net asset value each year to cancer charities. It might not find a blockbuster but I would not be at all surprised if one of its investee cos does just that. In the meantime this gives me a warm feeling!

He used to spam twitter and facebook and it got used to seeing his face online. I was literally right behind him and he spoke perfect English with a German accent. It is indeed a very small world

I have some money sitting in cash and might just take a wild punt at this. Are the director 'buys' obligatory on IPOs as part of the terms of listing, if not then the directors have put a bit of faith in it

Small world - I'm impressed that you recognised him. At least he was on EasyJet!! I should look him up again - might have seen him wandering round Zurich as one of those people I think I know from somewhere.

Oh well, if Sychona is successful, we can make out we just got the names confused when we invested and that actually we did know what we were doing, it was just a little typo that got in the way... it was quite ironic that most of us who invested there didn't actually like mobile phones very much!

Suddenly my portfolio was showing a £25000 jump in profits and I got all excited for a second or so.

Grr, did I ever mention that I recognised Carsten Brinkschult standing in front of me queuing for an EasyJet flight from Hamburg to Gatwick? I plucked up the courage to ask him if it was him and then told him I was an ex Syncronica investor who'd lost a packet on it. He looked a little embarrassed in front of an acquaintance but not embarrassed enough :D
