Ive never known IQE to get so much media and trade press coverage, Interesting comments from Drew today and i like what he's saying. The rumour mill suggested this deal would be related to the developing solar market , but instead they are shoring up the backbone of the business in their core wireless market (it still accounts for over 70% of IQE turnover) With 4g still to fully roll out, the global phone market still only 40% smartphone and just about everything from cars to gas meters about to get connected on 3g/4g it really does help to mitigate the supply chain risk, good work IQE! From the FT ...
The company has supply agreements with 15 wireless chipmakers used by smartphone and mobile device makers. The biggest gain for IQE from the acquisition was access to Skyworks, a chipmaker with revenues of $1.7bn that counts Apple as a client, and uses Kopin components.
“IQE’s strategy is to supply everybody in that supply chain,” Drew Nelson, IQE’s chief executive, told the Financial Times.
“The only piece of the jigsaw that we were missing was Skyworks. This transaction that we have just done with Kopin gives us the final part of this jigsaw.”

note to self
lesson no. 1 never ignore a chart like that.
almost sold yesterday on the rns like I've done in the past only to watch the thing breakout and fly off without me.
Not this time baby.
Oh and the fundamentals look sound so should be a lot more to run now.
thanks to the chaps how fed me the info a while back and good luck all
A GOOD DEAL

Also in meetings and away from laptop this pm
GREAT NEWS
The whole deal seems to be exactly what we needed as private investors - placing at 29 p , immediately revenue enhancing , sky works as a customer , no further payment until Jan 16 and cost synergies to boot
Only one burning question - what profit was this division making for Kopin ? baby is crying so don't have time to check - anyone know from research / RNS
Looks like the board are starting to get the ' art of the deal ' right
More opportunities I'm sure will follow after this year once they are integrated
As we grow these deals are much easier for the Board to get financing for - heres to 30 % compounded growth for the next 2 to 5 years
IM HOLDING FOR 2016 NOW !!
keep those posts coming

Can't find anything on Kopin's website to say that last year they renewed the contract with Skyworks, as it was due to run out in july 2012. Nothing on Skyworks website either.

Shares in IQE (IQE: 33p), a global supplier of advanced wafer products to the semiconductor industry, soared 14 per cent after the company announced the acquisition of the compound semiconductor epiwafer manufacturing business of Nasdaq-quoted Kopin Corporation (NAS: KOPN). This is a strategically smart deal as it significantly extends IQE's market share and leadership in wireless industry supply; adds Skyworks Solutions, which has a long standing supply agreement with Kopin Wireless, to the customer base; and brings in a Taiwanese manufacturing facility to boost IQE's global manufacturing footprint and provide the business with a strong position to access the growing Asian semiconductor market.

Simon Thompson tipped this one this evening, so tomorrow could well be as good as today and even though I bought a load more yesterday afternoon, I would have liked there to have been a slight retrace in the morning to buy more.
Fat chance of that now.
Anybody think it will cool down in a couple of weeks?

Revenue
10 Jan '13
Fiscal Year 2011 Compared to Fiscal Year 2010
Revenues. Our revenues, which include product sales and amounts earned from research and development
contracts, for fiscal years 2011 and 2010, were as follows (in millions):
Revenues 2011 2010
III-V . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . $ 66.5 $ 62.2
Display . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 64.6 58.2
Total . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . $131.1 $120.4
34The increase in our III-V revenues resulted from an increase in demand for our products, specifically HBT
transistors, from customers that use our products in the production of components sold to makers of wireless
handsets. We believe this increase in demand was the result of both an increase in the number of wireless
handsets that were sold over the prior year and because the percentage of “3G” or “smartphones”, which is a
more technologically advanced type of wireless handset, increased over the prior year as a percentage of the total
wireless handsets sold. 3G and smart phones offer more functions, for example web browsing, than a standard
wireless handset. 3G and smart phones require more HBT transistors than a standard wireless handset to support
the increased functionality. We believe the increase in industry sales of 3G and smart phones will continue in
2012.
In July 2012, our purchase and supply agreement with our largest III-V customer, a customer which
represented 37% of our 2011 revenues, expires (see Item 1A, Risk Factors for explanation of percent of revenue
calculation), subject to a last time buy option. If we do not renew this agreement or increase HBT sales to other
customers our sales may decline.
Don't know if they renewed contract with Skyworks Solutions...in July 2012
