Vodafone Interest?
27 Mar '14
Hello. I bought in last month to find a home for my Vodafone (VOD) 'windfall' and also to get out of small mining shares and into something that really is delivering. I, like many others was speculating as to where VOD might spend their cash mountain with most people thinking broadband (BB) networks with TV, phone and mobile thrown in. So far, they've grabbed Kabel Deutschland and recently Spain's ONO. I can't help thinking that high speed fibre BB is practically unobtainable for 5-10% of Europe and limited to cities only in Africa and Middle East. I would have thought Avanti's satellites (and I suppose some of France's Eutelsat) could give Vodafone upstream access to these inaccessible places. 5% to 10% satellite broadband take up across Europe and Africa (as well as HD TV services) is in my view a broader and larger spread than picking off one country's fibre BB at a time.

So, what I'm musing is could it be conceivable that VOD might want to grab a slice of Avanti? It's small change out of their war chest. I'd love to hear some views from long term and knowledgeable holders.

They did state some time ago that they would not announce contract wins via RNS so no surprises there . Good news though, they just seem to be quietly getting on with the job in hand without fanfare and letting actions speak louder than words. I wish some of the oilers I am into would behave like AVN ....all they do is make noise and do nothing !!

RNS

I am hoping that they are so confident in the company, that they don't feel it necessary to declare every contract win. Given all the negativity from detractors and shorters, they might be wanting to make one big positive RNS which will see the burning of the detractors big style. If I was in their position I would be tempted to do that, hit them in the pocket. Just hoping I am right!!! It is my biggest holding, and am backing the directors.

Profen announces major Turkish infrastructure partnership with Avanti Communications

25 March, 2014

New ‘Gateway Earth Station’ in Turkey to manage Turkish internet traffic for HYLAS 2 satellite

Leading global telecoms operator, Profen, has announced the establishment of a Turkish Gateway Earth Station (GES) to manage internet traffic in Turkey. The GES - locally referred to as a ‘Teleport’ - will manage traffic for Avanti Communications’ HYLAS 2 satellite, which provides 100% coverage over Turkey. Avanti Communications is the only international Ka-band satellite operator to secure a GES inside Turkey.

The major infrastructure partnership guarantees data security within Turkey, providing secure, high-quality data connectivity for a captive government, enterprise and retail customer base. The GES will be owned and operated by Profen, in addition to retaining part ownership and operation of HYLAS 2 capacity and services in Turkey. Services will also be available to Avanti Communications’ Turkish customers.

Commenting, Onder Havuzlu, Chief Executive at Profen said: “We are pleased to be taking a significant lead in the telecommunications market with this move. Ka-band services have enormous potential in Turkey. Our operation of the GES will ensure provision of highly secure, quality data connectivity to government, enterprise and retail customers in Turkey.”

Matthew O’Connor, Chief Operating Officer at Avanti Communications, said: “Avanti is proud to become the sole international Ka-band satellite operator to secure a GES inside of Turkey. This is a pioneering investment from Profen, which will benefit a number of applications. Avanti’s product offering is anchored in quality and flexibility, and this partnership draws a big point of difference with international competitors.”

No idea but what I have noticed during these periods of increase and then decrease in the SP is that the ' average ' is ending up about 10 p higher and is now at about 270 which is incremental progress.

I guess 300 will be attacked soon .
Think AVN said there would be 3 monthly trading updates and next one due in about a month ?

A pity you seem disenchanted with Avanti. Far be it from me to advise, but I believe in the company, and that they will eventually pay dividends and be worth a lot more than at present. Patience should be rewarded.
