Bit of anti-climax unless L & G have future plans to control a mining company! Still, it gave us all something to talk about and stirred the share price up as well. Shows that L & G have faith in the company to be buying up 5%.

Holdings in company. L&G have crossed 5%. Not had chance to fully read yet, but explains Friday's late trades.

Amplats

They've effectively taken one for the team here by their proposed actions today. I see unrest and strike talk is already brewing in SA. Hopefully no repeat of the bloodshed we saw last year but any further disruption will only push the price of platinum up further.

Amplats

Just read a report in mining weekly. The last few paragraphs make interesting reading. Sounds familiar.
As a result, Amplats would reduce its planned capital expansion over the next ten years by 25% to R100-billion in order to focus investment on low-cost, high-margin projects.
The Union mines were likely to be of greater value under different ownership and would be sold “at the right time”.
In the interim, the Union mines would be reconfigured to protect near-term value.
It was proposed that mining be stopped at the loss-making Union North declines and that the Mortimer Merensky concentrator be put on long-term care and maintenance.
Union North and South would be combined into one operation and the processing operations would be aligned with the proposed mining footprint, which might include closing the Waterval upper-group-two concentrator and the number-two smelting furnace.
Steps were also being proposed to increase the efficiency of some of the joint ventures (JVs) and to simplify the JV portfolio.
“The other platinum producers are the key beneficiaries,” Davis added in his note

I get the feeling whoever it was is still accumulating. You would expect the BOD to say something like they are in talks are unaware for the rise or someone buying but nothing. Maybe a confidentiality agreement who knows. Ill be happy if we see blue everyday.

Looking at the trades this morning they are pi size transactions, it did not fall back so I would guess there were buyers quite happy to hoover them up. I would think the large trades on Friday would have been enough as you would assume they were the same buyer. I'm quite happy for a rise in the sp when there is profit taking, be interesting to see what happens prior to the market closing. Lets hope it gives us a bit more of a clue. Btw Platinum touched $1700 for a short while. I'm just waiting for that rapper to start wearing his platinum medallion. A boy from the 'hood' is going to make us rich. lol

Bit surprised this has stayed at the same level all day. Was expecting a 1 or 2 pence rise following yesterday's performance. The news about possible supply shortages doesn't seem to have impacted at all. I know there are bound to have been profit takers but it is a bit of a mystery to me. No rns either so perhaps whatever changes took place were not enough to trigger a notification. They say no news is good news but it would be very welcome here.
