I note that Jefferies' Joseph Dickerson is as sceptical as me re a div. of course those saying it is decided by the Government have no idea how these things work Normally the BOD decides but in this case only if the Regulator approves so there are two hurdles to jump through. It is clear to me that having only just cleared the EU stress test makes this most improbable. We shall all know one way or the other before the end of Feb

One further point is that value investing as practiced by Neil Woodford etc is certainly not gambling and needs to be considered in years rather than months. At this point Lloyds is probably quite but not very good value.

I am not falling for that old chestnut. So let's have your view as to what the govt will be. I also have an idea that there will be 2 general elections in 2015 as the first government will fail. I may not have much idea what is going on but in the past have been quite good at predicting ge results. Another prediction is that the ukip will get between 5 and 10 seats. It is interesting that in Scotland the left wing vote is above 60% whilst in the South of England right of centre is well over 50%. In any event the result will be very inconsistent.

Well it has not been turned round yet under either a Tory ( Cameron is a social democrat in my book) or coalition eg cd government. I used to be a Lloyds manager years ago - the ceo asked the staff how happy they were recently. Surprised to get a flea in his ear. It has not been the same since they ditched the staff magazine The Dark Horse, did away with final salary pension and renamed staff department human resources. Actually it all went wrong when Brian Pitman left. Gordon Brown urged the then chairman to take over Halifax without due diligence. What a disaster that was. No chance at all of a div this year thought the sp may well increase.

I would suggest you are a gambling man - what with partaking in the stock market....so I will bet you £100 in public that (a) there WILL be a positive divi announcement next week and another £100 that (b) there will NOT be a Labour / SNP coalition.....IN PUBLIC, loads of witnesses....How say you old boy?
{Because you have absolutely no idea what is going on around you}.................................

Banks should be valued on the 10% they have, not the 90% they haven't.

The other 90% gets lent to other banks institutions countries mortgage holders etc etc. Who have naff all equity aswell.

Someone can't pay and the can is kicked further down the road. But the bankers still get their bonus.
