Scfc, my point wasn't about numbers ,as I understand it a referendum cannot be called on financial matters, merely political ones, so in that respect parliament counld't have passed it to be called, discussed or even be put to a vote
There are 300 members in the Greek parliament of which 149 are from Syriza so it's difficult to see it not getting a majority approval but still laughable the total lack of detail of what "no" actually means!
Yep, I think a big part of Mr T's plan is to clampdown on the tax avoidance, etc but the EU are rightly skeptical on how much this will bridge the deficit gap...hence the request for more spending cuts which then flies in the face of what they were elected on - impossible situation hence the curveball last night!
indeed I'm sypathetic with the greeks, but, maybe they hold some responsibility also to an extent. The only time I was in greece (around 93/94) travelling around, all we saw was ( apparently) unfinished houses. Upon enquiring what was with all these inhabited houses with rebar sticking out the top floor. The response was that if it had a roof it would be liable for tax. And I say about 2 out of 3 houses at that time had no roof.
Whether that says more about the people, the laws, or the govt I'm not sure, but that was one big tax avoidance scheme in full view of everyone else.
Really very difficult to call esp. as I think there'll be more twists tomorrow - at the moment a finger in the air of say low 100ish, maybe less? - for me it depends how the "herd"' is feeling. Think it may well end higher that it goes down in the morning...
