RE: Rio

If Rio go down the IPO route for their 58.7% of IOC it will be interesting to see how much they get for their stake on the open market. The product is not dissimilar to Zenaga's grades for Fe and impurities. However, the mine is still using conventional hot pellet/rotary kiln tecnology so their opex costs for fuel must be high plus all that CO2 can not be good for their CSR image.Cold pellet process should give Zenaga an edge..

"Sources close to Rio said that if it went ahead with the IOC sale or flotation, it could potentially use the proceeds to pursue a number of smaller acquisition targets."

Well I am still hoping that after the last returns we are going to be given more details on the pellets. For me it was a strange one lacking detail. That can only be for a reason (not that someone could not be bothered). So we wait, taking comfort that things are moving forward. All be it slowly( who knows what is going on behind the curtains), but that can and I hope will change. A good returns re the commercial pellets and steel mill must be due? Port news due soon. NPV some of our tech posters (thanks for sharing).. Well a bit like the ore, we are waiting for our time. For me it is a when not if now..

Extract from Halcrow Sea- consultants for work already done on the Oort development plans a long time ago.

http://www.halcrowsea.com/Projects/152928980272.html

analysis and downtime analysis for vessels operating in open sea with wave over 1.5m, period around 3s to 17s.

The first phase of Pointe-Noire project is located approximately 8 km away to the north of exist port in Congo (Brazzavile). This project was proposed to build two 300,000-ton ore exporting berths, one 100,000-ton potash exporting berth, two 50,000-ton multi-functional berths, one breakwater in the south of the port. Besides, onshore field consisting of storage yard, warehouse, logistics spaces and production supporting zone was also developed.

In order to meet the requirements of ship mooring and operation, HalcrowSea performed numerical analysis adopting Termsim II to evaluate mooring stability under typical condition (i.e. wind, wave and current condition) , and the reasonability of berth layout and design parameters had been verified.

remember the port facilities for the iron ore shipments were situated north of the terminal ( I think 15-25kms away) that would require an extension to the existing barrier/ quay to take up to 300,000 tones DWT cargo ships. This was a requirement for the key development phases 1 & 2

Whether the existing or newly to be developed terminal will be used for the EPP phase I don't know. However road and rail infrastructure would still need to be addressed.

Is this the upgrade though, which is now funded that will be larger and possibly Ore could be shipped out from here as early as 2019?

As this update filters through to a 'trusted' source then this is significant news that once again strengthens our position. It could get interesting this afternoon.
Maybe yesterday's two chunky buys were privy to this info...
Happy days

Someone more technical may be able to get the link to show.

This Monday, 13 August 2018, took place in brazzaville the signing ceremony of the credit agreement of EUR 70 million between the French agency development of the pointe-Noire Autonomous Port. This funding will allow for the construction, extension and modernization of nearly 1000 linear metres of quays at depths of-12,50 metres including:

- construction of a 320 m multipurpose platform for the docking of conventional vessels

- construction of a 353-metre linear platform for the docking of conventional vessels and docking of a floating dock of 4000 tonnes for naval repair

- the creation of a 30 m length basin and width 13,50 m at depths of 5 M for 450 tonnes of vessels.

- the construction of 300 linear metres of quay to the west of the new mole for the traffic of bulk vessels.

- dredging of water access to-12,50 m.

The cost of this work is estimated at EUR 103 million, of which $ 70 million is available from afd and 33 million on own financing from of.

This funding is supported by a European Union Grant of EUR 30 million which aims at:

- the construction of a new fishing port to provide the Congo with efficient industrial and craft fishing infrastructure

- support for the implementation of sustainable management of the country's Fisheries resource.

- the guarantee of environmental management of of in accordance with international standards.

- improving port efficiency with a view to reducing the costs and time limit of the port passage.

The deadline for carrying out all work is estimated at 36 months from the start of the work planned for the first quarter of 2019.

At the end of the actual implementation of this project, the papn will have 4600 linear metres of docks compared to 3020 metres at present, an increase of 52 % which will help to cope with the prospects for changing traffic in Short and medium term, as well as the emergence of opportunity traffic, essential for the diversification and development of the congolese economy.

Would I be right in thinking that ZIOP's pellets are more suited to European or North American iron ore smelters than Chinese ones?

Both are showing on the London Stock Exchange website:-

13:43:48 14-Aug-2018 18.30 GBX 300,000 54,900.00 Off-book AIMX LRGS
13:43:35 14-Aug-2018 18.20 GBX 300,000 54,600.00 Off-book AIMX AMND LRGS

However AMND means an amended trade, so there might only have been one buy of 300k. Definitely a buy though.
